    Along the Park walkway

A very simple but pleasant park in Occuquan River Mill Park is located in Occoquan at the end of Mill Street Road and next to the Mill House Museum and the footbridge. It is really a picturesque gem offering both tranquility and beautiful view of the Occoquan River. Accessible from Mill Street, the park provides ample parking nearby, though it can get busy on weekends. Once parked, a short walk leads you to the park entrance with a building with facilities. The park is a large, flat open grassy area with an overlook on the river about 100 feet above the river. The park's features are diverse, catering to various interests. Families enjoy picnicking on the grassy areas while history buffs appreciate the interpretive signage detailing Occoquan's past as a mill town. The highlight of River Mill Park is undoubtedly its stunning view of the Occoquan River in both directions. Benches along the boardwalk offer ideal spots to relax and soak in the serene waterscape, dotted with boats and wildlife. There is a small stage with a fabric covering in the middle and a sign that spells, "LOVE" that people can take pictures with. Overall, River Mill Park impresses with its accessibility, family-friendly amenities, and scenic riverside charm, making it a delightful destination for locals and visitors seeking a blend of relaxation and outdoor adventure in Occoquan.

It's a nice little park with a bridge you can use to walk across the water. Too bad people leave trash everywhere though.

Hey so you want to try out the class 4 rapids on the Occuquan creek? Sorry it's illegal but it's totally ok to enjoy a stroll at the park and see a local artist performing at the pavilion. Also if your like me and love tracking down the VA Love signs . This one is just 13 months old. This park was renovated but is still missing seating lounges for a better summer experience. Great lunch stop and ok for fishing.

This is a small park in Occoquan, VA. Have been here many times. The view of the river here is…read moreexceptional. It's best to park on the side streets, and walk on to the property. This park is convenient to all in town. The gazebo is relaxing. Here you can literally chill. Quite often I'll bring a cooler with sandwiches, and almost meditate here, as the waves of the river are a great environment. It's not too busy also. That alone is another reason to like it. Parks are a great way to spend time, and although this one doesn't have a lot going on, I do sometimes like to just "veg " out and kick back.

What's notable about it is that it's open, and with all the local restaurants still in takeout mode as of this writing, you can social distance and eat at a bench or picnic table with a view. The space was also nice enough that some local graduates of something were taking their post-commencement pictures there. And of course, even when business returns to normal, getting takeout and eating it on the river is still a perfectly reasonable thing to do. Perhaps one side effect of the virus will be to make us appreciate our outdoor spaces a little more. This one is just a short little boardwalk in front of a residential area, but it's good that it's there.

Came here with a group for kayaking. Only they ran out of kayaks before noon. So some of us had to…read morerent standup paddle boards instead. There is a slightly more expensive pricing for folks not residing in Fairfax, Loudon, Alexandria, or Arlington counties. But they don't really verify...so as long as you put down an address within those counties on your waiver, then you are good to go. See my pics for the pricing as of Aug 2023. The Sat I came, they seemed very short staffed with only two people managing the rental payments and forms and then another 2 manning all the boats/boards. So we pretty much ended up having to launch and bring back our vessels ourselves. They have very limited 2 person kayaks and they require kids under 12 to be in a boat with another adult so be prepared. In addition to kayaks they have jon boats and stand up paddle boards. You can bring your own vessel but there are launch prices. The lake is quite large so 1 hour is still not enough to explore its entirety even if you were powering through. The boat rental process is this: 1) Each person needs to fill out a waiver (just one page), you need to keep the yellow paper on you and return it when you come back. 2) Payments can be done per person or by group and they accept Apple Pay 3) Go down to the dock, hand them your form 4) They will tell you which vessel you can pick and hand you life vests and paddle(s) 5) Go have fun 6) Return the vessel 7) Bring back the yellow form to the rental house Not sure why we need to keep a piece of paper on us while out on the water. I've rented boats in many other places and all they needed was the vessel back. I guess to prevent theft...but they log the number assigned to the vessel on the form prior to you renting so...But at least there isn't an entrance fee to this park and there isn't really much else to do besides activities around the water front. There is a trail that leads to Bull Run, but there isn't say a playground, picnic area, or sports fields. Parking is pretty limited but you can park along the side of the road.

For fishing I can't recommend it. I'm sure the folks who stock it do their best, but the amount of…read morepressure here leads to diminishing returns. You won't find a relaxing oasis. Instead suburbanites fishing it so much, that it is what it is. The waterway is beautiful though. It's a better place to kayak at. The employees here are super nice. There are hiking and bike trails. The hiking ones need improved markings. Thank goodness for some training, as one day recently the markings were off, and led to an unexpected adventure. I do like the biking ones, as they are challenging. It is quite a large park. Tis a shame it's overfished, but it's not the only waterway in the area this is an issue.
