The marker reads, "The town of Osbornes was named for Captain Thomas Osborne who settled nearby at Coxendale in 1616. During the 17th and 18th centuries, Osborne's plantation wharf was a tobacco inspection station and local shipping center. Thomas Jefferson, grandfather of the President, was born here in 1677. On April 27, 1781, British General Benedict Arnold destroyed nine ships of the American fleet and burned the town's warehouses and stores. George Washington visited Osbornes in 1791 during a national tour designed to afford citizens the opportunity to see their first national hero." Today, there's a car parts store at this spot. From the moment Carlos picked us up in his amazing vehicle, until he dropped us off later on in the day, we made the most fabulous memories together! His attention to detail was amazing. He opened and closed our doors. He escorted us into each winery. He communicated with the winery staff to make certain we were situated. He took pictures of the day, which he shared with us later. He provided a lovely charcuterie snack for us. He was a wealth of knowledge about wines and wine making and the history of the area and the beautiful vistas. As you can see, I could go on and on!! Dolphins, osprey with fish in their talons, lighthouses, a drawbridge, and a chill approach to life. He navigated us Tilghman island... let us rest, eat and swim... then returned us safely to our lives in DC. The 38 ft sloop is awesome, well cared for and handled great in some chop. I will absolutely sail with captain Paul again. I highly recommend sailing with him.
