Great place for a walk. They have a paved walkway so it's not muddy but if you go up the stairs you can walk on a dirt walkway way. They have other activities and a marina.

First visit for fitness, fresh air and fun. This is a beautiful, vastly shaded, area with many connecting routes along the water and through the woods for outdoor activities. There is a Cafe and canoe rental collocated to take advantage and enjoy an impromptu activity if you desire. Walk, jog, run, fish, sit for brunch, pick a bench and converse or choose to do something else. Whichever you decide on, this is a perfect place especially during Fall (my fav season)!

Large park with lots to do including trails and fishing spots at the docks. I did some fishing in the Occoquan River via the floating dock. It's a little hard to find the first time but a good fishing spot once you find it. Unfortunately, the dock isn't huge it would get crowded if more than a couple of folks were fishing at the same time. I'll come back here again to fish and check out some trails.

I could have sworn I reviewed this park years ago when I lived in VA. Occoquan is just stunning. It's one of my favorites parks to jog. In fact, it's one of my favorite parks in the country. I love to jog and find trails to just run and Occoquan conveniently has a 5K trail loop. It has 350 acres of fun! You can enjoy the bricksmakers Café for lunch, take wonderful scenic pics, rent a kayak or perhaps rent out our pavilion. I remember jogging here and stumbling upon a classic car show. I just spent hours admiring all the antique beauties. The point is no matter what your favorite recreational activity is, you can do it here. 5 stars.

Occoquan Regional Park is a 400-acre public park along the Occoquan River. Here's why you should visit: 1) Parking: Entering the park from Ox Road, the tiny road takes you to a massive parking lot with easy-to-find open spots. 2) History: There are several historical spots within the park. There's an old brick kiln that helped supply Washington, D.C. with brick years ago. Across from it is a new mural honoring the women who fought for women's suffrage. 3) Amenities: There's an events space, a cafe and public restrooms. There's also a dock where boats can enter the river. 4) Trails: A number of trails weave through the park straddling the river. There's even a trail that crosses a bridge into Historic Occoquan. 5) Views: Located along the river, the park gives breathtaking views of the trees hanging over the water and Historic Occoquan.

This well-maintained, quaint park offers a peaceful retreat despite being right next to Interstate 95. The Brickmakers Cafe within the park serves a variety of American cuisine, including burgers, fries, wraps, and salads. Numerous gazebos are available for family gatherings, and there is a convenient boat launch pad near the cafe.

Occoquan Regional Park is across the Occoquan River from historic Occoquan. There is a large parking lot when you first arrive with multiple levels to park closer to where you want to go. Be sure to check out the old kiln and the Womens Suffrage memorial. There is an event space, the Brickmaker's Cafe, kayak rentals, and a public boat launch. There are also numerous trails that weave through the woods for hiking. This is a nice park to use for recreation.

We first visited this park awhile back for a walk. Our most recent visit was for a friends wedding. Plenty of parking is available. The venue was beautiful. There is lots of space for adults to gather (kids to run around), outdoor beauty, and a spacious indoor area (at The Riverview). Everything was set up perfectly. The Riverview was clean and organized. The music, decor, and service was lovely. Employees around the venue were incredibly helpful, friendly, and attentive. The bride and groom were so happy, which makes us so very happy! Everything from start to finish was wonderful. So glad we were able to be a part of this gorgeous day and celebrate N&N!

Kayaking!

I just bought a new inflatable kayak so I can test out the waters (har har) before investing in something more expensive for the long-term. There's a modest boat launch fee ($6 for NoVA resident and $8 for everyone else) as well as boat and life vest rentals. We decided to go right and head towards the waterfall for our ride, and it was lovely. The water was calm and while there were other boats of all kinds on the water I never felt like it was too crowded--and the larger boats were good about not going super fast and leaving a wild wake behind. If I lived in one of the pretty mansions on the other side of the river I'd definitely kayak every day, but I don't know that I'd come back here every weekend to do so, although there's more to explore than I could fit in a single day's trip. There's tons and tons of parking, and even a cute bistro with outdoor seating if you want to grab lunch or a beer. I didn't check it out but it looks like there's a whole event venue and sporting options, as well as a Suffragist monument that's in the process of being built. The atmosphere/vibe was lovely. The folks renting boats were great at giving our friends who did rent some good advice, and even stopped to chat with me a bit while I was inflating my kayak to talk about his own kayak. There was a gentleman fishing nearby the boat launch, and some kids approached him to learn more about fishing and he was just kindly telling them all about bait and how to fish and different kinds of fish--just the kind of kindness that strangers aren't always willing to dole out. He soon had a small crowd/fanclub as he was pulling in some whoppers and all the adults wanted to know his magic.

Perfect! An old historic site, turned into a park, conference hall, boat dock and small dockside bistro! Convicts used to fire a kiln to make bricks for building. Don't let it fool you: the grounds are well-kept and there's something for everyone! Soccer, baseball, volleyball, fishing, swimming, boating.. Rebel review: 4

Here's why you should visit if you're in the area: 1) Trails: There are a number of trails of all lengths perfect for a little hike with small kids. The trails are even enough that you could job on them, but they aren't paved so strollers are not recommended. 2) History: There are several plaques that tell the land's history being the property of a Revolutionary War hero. 3) Frisbee Golf: There's a long course with markers and all. 4) Workout Equipment: There are several stations to get a good arm and leg workout in. 5) Pond: There's a little pond that one of the trails leads to. It's a nice course down around the pond, along the disc golf course, through the woods with changes of elevation, over the river on rocks, and back). The trail is well-worn and you may encounter runners, walkers with dogs, and bikers (though honestly for us it's been very few). The only somewhat bad thing is that it is very often muddy (but it's the woods so what can you do?!). There's a ton of parking, a tiny play area (I wanted to say playground but it's really not), and a floating dock at the pond where you can fish. This park is part of a bigger walkway/trail system which we have not as of yet explored. It would be nice if they had restrooms, so thankfully we live fairly close.

It has been an incredibly fun adventure for us - finding parks and places to enjoy, hike, and immerse ourselves in the nature, beauty of the outdoors, and wildlife in Virginia & Maryland. We walked all the trails in the Hidden Pond Park and liked spending time in the Hidden Pond Nature Center in the park. There are many activities for children and adults in the parks. The staff there were friendly and helpful. The park is well maintained and there are so many picturesque areas and hiking trails to experience there. We spent about three hours in the park. The park was peaceful and quiet. We experienced no traffic and saw very few people during our hike on the trails. Austin, one of the staff in the Nature Center, said it had to do with the geography & location of the park. Along the trails are many sitting areas to take a break. We saw many kinds of birds, deer, flowers, and foxes during our time in the park. Strongly recommend wearing bug repellent & sunscreen and checking out a map of the trails in the nature center. Beautiful park to visit during each season and very ideal for wildlife photographers and for peaceful & quiet walks in the park.

Pretty eventful day, April 15, 2026. Staff were helpful and nice! Nature Center provides wildlife education and animals, a place to refill water or use the utilities. I wouldn't expect to see all that we seen, as think we were pretty lucky to come across all of that in one day. For instance as soon as we sat down on the bench near the river, the hawk flew over and landed nearby, first to get a drink of water then perched nearby. The fox happened to be coming to the river before we locked eyes and ran off while I fumbled with my dang lens cap, as always. Good luck!

There is a slightly more expensive pricing for folks not residing in Fairfax, Loudon, Alexandria, or Arlington counties. But they don't really verify...so as long as you put down an address within those counties on your waiver, then you are good to go. See my pics for the pricing as of Aug 2023. The Sat I came, they seemed very short staffed with only two people managing the rental payments and forms and then another 2 manning all the boats/boards. So we pretty much ended up having to launch and bring back our vessels ourselves. They have very limited 2 person kayaks and they require kids under 12 to be in a boat with another adult so be prepared. In addition to kayaks they have jon boats and stand up paddle boards. You can bring your own vessel but there are launch prices. The lake is quite large so 1 hour is still not enough to explore its entirety even if you were powering through. The boat rental process is this: 1) Each person needs to fill out a waiver (just one page), you need to keep the yellow paper on you and return it when you come back. 2) Payments can be done per person or by group and they accept Apple Pay 3) Go down to the dock, hand them your form 4) They will tell you which vessel you can pick and hand you life vests and paddle(s) 5) Go have fun 6) Return the vessel 7) Bring back the yellow form to the rental house Not sure why we need to keep a piece of paper on us while out on the water. I've rented boats in many other places and all they needed was the vessel back. I guess to prevent theft...but they log the number assigned to the vessel on the form prior to you renting so...But at least there isn't an entrance fee to this park and there isn't really much else to do besides activities around the water front. There is a trail that leads to Bull Run, but there isn't say a playground, picnic area, or sports fields. Parking is pretty limited but you can park along the side of the road.

There's the cheesy "Love" sign you can get a picture with your significant other if you have one. I do like that there was a menorah and Christmas tree. Today this plus the holidays wreaths on the bridge were done with class. The new rocking bench is solid. Do I wish it was wooden? Yep but it's probably for safety reasons. The walkways had some ice on them. Definitely watch your step. I think this is a good place to chill from the busy land of northern Virginia. If you're in the area it's worth stopping by here.
