When my pet, Sparky, became distant and annoyed, and began to eat less, he also had a growth on his chin that I could not help him with...because I am not a doctor. Ah-ha! I reached out to HOPE Animal Rescue and I can't be more grateful. They stepped in and helped get Sparky to a veterinarian within a few days, after the application process was completed, and Sparky is a HAPPY CAT. Laurel was especially helpful in that she made the process seem like there wasn't a process...even though we all know what it takes to get things done today. Feats like this are not marginal notes in life...they are magnificent, loving, caring moments in time that help us to remember, "Wow. I really don't feel so alone out here in the world." I cannot say enough about HOPE Animal Rescue. In a way, Hope Animal Rescue rescued my pet AND me, because I was so distraught over what was happening to him and the not knowing is what creates the fear. Thank you to Laurel and the entire VOLUNTEER staff and businesses that help to support Hope Animal Rescue. They have a specific system where you submit an application, meet a dog at an event, and demonstrate considerable interest in a dog. After that, you have a home visit and you get to adopt! They are truly all-volunteer and every decision they make is made with the best interest of the dog or cat in mind. I started fostering kittens with IAR in 2014 and continued on as a foster for several more years before transitioning to other volunteer roles. I also am what is known as a foster fail, having adopted an adorable lanky kitten early on as a companion for our resident kitty. Due to personal health concerns, I sadly stepped down from my volunteer roles last year, but I have a deep love for IAR and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking to adopt a dog, cat or pair of kittens, or to foster or volunteer! If you happen to be on one of the North Durham Nextdoor websites, on just about every post concerning community cats or dogs you'll see numerous individuals who have found help through IAR recommending them as a resource for guidance and support. I am sure the same is true throughout Durham, Chapel Hill, and Carrboro. IAR is quick to step in when there is a need - whether it's saving kittens who are in storm drains, feeding and spaying and neutering feral colonies, or rescuing and caring for homeless dogs and cats until they find their forever homes.

Melissa and Stacey were his primary caregivers. They looked after our sweet boy with such care, showering him with love and treats while we were at work. They always sent the sweetest pictures of him and updated us with how he was doing. On two occasions BCPS looked after him while we were out of town. They accommodated our timeframe requests for the number of visits we wanted him to have, administered his medication, catered to his picky eating habits, and showered him with lots of love. BCPS always had excellent communication and put us at ease when we were on trips. When our boy passed away last year, BCPS grieved along with us and sent the sweetest sympathy card in the mail. It meant so much. When the time is right, we will adopt another dog and will absolutely work with BCPS again. They are amazing.

So we signed up with Bull City Pet Sitting. From the beginning, I was really impressed with the website- they asked so many pertinent questions! Things I never would have thought to share! Everything from nicknames to hiding spots to what day our trash pickup was! The owner Stacey came out to meet our dog and see our space. She was awesome, and I felt so comfortable leaving her organization in charge. Jenn was our assigned sitter and she went above and beyond! Our dog loved her (I could tell by the amazing photos she shared on every visit!) and she was great about communication. She took into consideration his special needs and cared for him so well! It was such a relief, as a caretaker for an elderly dog, to have a couple of nights away and not worry about him. I will DEFINITELY be using Bull City Pet Sitting in the future!

There are several different positions so you can be as involved with the cats or as little as you want. I was initially nervous to volunteer as I was afraid I would fall in love with every cat and want to take them home. There have been a few I've wanted to take home but mostly I am just happy to see the kitties taken care of. There is always someone to help you if you aren't quite sure what to do and plenty of training provided. Everyone has been friendly.

We arrived to look at potential kitties for adoption, and there was some printed sign on the door that said "appointment only today sorry" no info on where or how to schedule an apt I went online and no links were working just a link to schedule a neutering No one to greet you, no one to welcome you when you walk in. Just an empty room filled with clutter and trash We asked the couple that was also waiting, and they said they just filled out a paper application to view for adoptions, so we did the same. Some guy came out after said it would be about 10 min and he'll come back and give us a tour of the facility ? I rang the doorbell twice one time 5 min after and a second 15 min after to at least give him the paperwork We walked in at 4pm. They close at 5pm. It's now 4:35 the same guy comes out. His name was Kyle. Had us waiting forever just to come out and say it'll be another few minutes and he can give us the tour. He said "I'll just bunch both couples into the same tour" I just asked "are were even going to have the chance to look at or enter a room where kitties are available." Mind you he still hadnt even taken my paperwork just the other couples He had no clue what was going on He said probably not because they were closing at 5. He didn't even collect the clipboard I had filled out. Just such a shame to sit in a waiting room for 30+ minutes hearing all these cats crying behind this closed door in the lobby ALSO MOST IMPORTANTLY , the inside of the waiting room was a PIGSTY. Amazon packages everywhere, boxes of donated items, and those little tools that are used to administer cat pills that they put in a cat's mouth just left on top of the donated boxes outside of the bathroom in the waiting room. Horrible, disappointing, and frankly depressing. Kyle also had no business running that place alone, and if someone was back there not helping him, then shame on them too. I rang that doorbell probably 3x just to ask a question and it's like everyone was ignoring the people in the lobby. This place needs a revamp , cleanup and organization clean up. Barley was hesitant around men when I first got him due to prior abuse, but Frank won him over almost instantly! He loved his daily walks with Frank and I know Barley misses him. Packman Dog Walking & Better Behavior is AWESOME! The "Better Behavior" is in there for a reason…read more Not only is Frank a great dog walker, he is also an excellent and effective dog trainer. The concept of combining walking and training is genius - I only wish I had found Packman Dog Walking sooner! I have an 2 y.o. 80lb mixed breed pup. In general, he is well behaved but there were some behaviors that I had just learned to "live with" - i.e. pulling on the leash, barking when the doorbell rings and not always listening when I say "come." We had tried most of the "puppy classes" and trainers in the area and spend a lot of money without much success. Amazingly, within 15 minutes of meeting Captain, Frank had him sitting quietly greeting the postman at our front door. In addition to his excellent dog training, Frank is unique in that he has a keen understanding of dog psychology. Before finding Packman, I was sending my dog to a few different "doggy daycare" facilities in the area. Unfortunately, on a few occasions, my dog came home with cuts and limps and acting out of character. I don't fault these facilities (it is impossible to keep your eye on 20 dogs at one time...), but Frank has offered a great alternative way to socialize my dog in a setting where there is always a human in control. No matter how many dogs Frank is walking, he is always aware of each dog and is therefore able to facilitate healthy, fun socialization. I have a fitness tracker on my dog and I've noticed he gets the same amount of activity in a 1-2hr walk with Frank as he did when he spent a whole day at a daycare facility. Furthermore, Frank is incredibly professional. There is a great deal of trust involved in letting someone into your home while you are not there. Frank has been professional, responsive and respectful of my house and roommates on each and every occasion he has been here. I am at ease knowing that my dog and my home are in great hands while I am working.

Amber has been caring for my two dogs for 2 years now. She is amazing. Both my dogs are…read moredifficult to handle: one is extremely nervous and will run away or growl/snap in new situations. The other one is sweet natured, but barks incessantly in any new situation or when other people or dogs are encountered. They both love Amber, and she is better able to handle them than any dog trainer I have used. (And I have used numerous.) Amber not only provides walks and play time, but it is clear that she has been helping to train the dogs. They have shown significantly improved behavior on walks after she has been working with them. She is extremely patient with them and clearly cares for them. Both dogs love her, and I can't imagine using anyone else. Amber has provided daily walks for extra exercise and has also cared for them when I was traveling. Neither dog seems to miss me when I am out of town....which I consider to be the best recommendation possible! She seems to truly understand them and goes out of her way to make sure they are happy and comfortable. She is an absolute natural around dogs, and I'd recommend her to anybody.
