LILA is an absolute gem of a school. We searched all of Los Angeles when choosing an elementary…read moreschool for our children, and commute from Studio City to attend the Los Feliz campus. We are not a French-speaking family, but our children thrive here, and were both fluent by 1st grade. Studies have pointed to several potential benefits of the bilingual brain, including increased cognitive flexibility, working memory, attention, and focus. But, in addition to language benefits, we chose LILA for its overall excellent pedagogical approach. Here, teachers have high expectations and encourage independence, and we have seen our children and their peers rise to these expectations and exceed them time and time again. The teachers exude warmth, investment, and energy that inspires the kids, but also have high standards and don't patronize them. The children at LILA are engaged, confident, possess impressive executive function, and are some of the most creative individuals I've encountered. Have a conversation with any student at LILA and you will plainly see something magical is going on at this school. Our family loves being a part of the LILA community: an international, eclectic, and stimulating group of families. And we like that the school gives our children a global perspective on the world. These kids understand our interconnectedness, are passionate about social and climate justice issues, have respect for other cultures, and exhibit increased empathy. The administration and teachers have handled the COVID-19 crisis with impressive flexibility and creativity. The school has provided excellent communication, and remains nimble and open to feedback to better serve the community in this crisis. Remote learning is, of course, not ideal, but the teachers have handled the transition well, and the kids remain engaged and learning. We hear that the school has provided increased financial aid to families this year, and have seen it make numerous technological improvements to continue to meet its high educational standards. Despite the review to the contrary, I can attest that the school closed completely by end-of-day Friday, March 13th, 2020, and that all learning since that day has been virtual. Students are not, nor have ever been, allowed on campus since that day. The only time anyone has been on campus has been to pick up remote learning materials, remaining in cars, with masks, at a safe distance. Preschool and Pre-K kids have been allowed back on campus this fall for in-person learning, in accordance with state and city guidelines, and are abiding by and exceeding all official protocols, including enforcing a strict on-campus mask mandate. This is a school that believes in science. If LILA interests your family, I recommend touring the Burbank high school campus, as well. Students there are even more impressive and the experience helped give us a more comprehensive idea of what the school has to offer.

There are about 12-13 kids in his class and somehow each drop off and pick up feels personal to us. The teachers are so focused on each child's individual needs and we feel very supported as a new family at LILA.

When my family first moved to the states, they settled in Hollywood. As a little girl my mom would…read morewould take me to Griffith Park a lot because apparently I liked climbing on the brass bear at the front entrance off Los Feliz. She would look over to the school around the corner and hoped that one day she would be able to send me there. And 10+ years later I graduated from that school! I graduated from Immaculate Heart...well...long before Yelp even existed and when we were still using Encarta instead of Google! :-) As a grown adult, not only do I cherish my 4 years there, but I cherish the person I am because of it. I left academically prepared when I arrived at college. People in my dorm were always bringing their papers to me to edit and review - techniques and writing skills I mastered in my freshman English class at IH. I developed patience to work as a team and with people I didn't quite care for. I couldn't stand my Honors Chem lab partner, but I'm sure the feeling was mutual! The diversity and cultural exposure expanded my tolerance. And dancing on the lawn after Welcome Day or the 10K Walk is when I truly learned my passion for ass shaking the bass of live DJ music! I mostly cherish that I truly have learned what it means to be a supportive friend and sister first. My best friends till this day are those from IH. Even though not every single member of my 109 graduating class are super close to each other 15 years later, we genuinely care for each other and enjoy celebrating our life events...even if it's just a simple "Like" on FB! I have no frame of reference when my other friends say they don't have any close friends from high school or keep in touch with anyone from their class. Sorry, can't relate and I kinda feel bad for them! I met a woman at the grocery store last week who recognized my class ring - she was an alum too. It's an instant connection when you meet a fellow Panda! My mom worked 2 jobs to send me to IHHS and I can't thank her enough for finding a way for me to go here. I can't say I would *force* my own daughter to attend as well, but I would sincerely hope she would want to go. The traditions and life lessons are invaluable. In my opinion, Immaculate Heart truly does develop young ladies into women of great heart and right conscience.

The staff and faculty are nice as they come, and…read morethe best part is they still use pencil and paper for homework assignments (with Ipads optional), and require reading from a book every school night (each kid's choice of which one). We had tried public and private schools previously, and this is by far the best school experience we have had so far. We are not members of the parish, but from day one have felt exceptionally welcome by teachers, the office, and parents. Whether you are Catholic parents or not, the school offers the perfect balance for children between academic and religious studies. And if your child has ADHD, in our experience, the teachers have been exceptionally supportive of helping our child advance in a way that fits him best while still maintaining a studious environment for everyone. And the students are WONDERFUL!

When I looked into other schools, none of them felt like home the way Holy Trinity did. My husband and many of his friends also attended HTS and received an incredible education, so it means a lot to our family that our son now gets to have that same positive experience. This school truly stands out for its supportive and welcoming environment. From the moment you walk through the doors, you can feel the warmth and positivity created by both the staff and the students. The teachers and staff are amazing -- they are incredibly dedicated, always willing to help, and genuinely invested in the success and well-being of every child. One of the things that makes Holy Trinity so special is how approachable and caring the educators are. They create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas, and growing both academically and personally. The communication between staff, students, and families is also wonderful, which really strengthens the sense of community. We feel so grateful to be part of a school where the teachers truly care and where children are encouraged to grow, learn, and thrive. Holy Trinity is not just a school -- it's a community, and it's a place our family is proud to be part of.

Their ability to read books, solve math problems, understand science, speak a foreign language, and write sentences comes as a surprise to many of our friends and family members. Many can't believe that our kids are only in their early years of scholastic education. I especially like the fact that the class sizes are relatively small. The teachers are able to pay very close attention to the specific needs of a child and tailor a child's curriculum towards their scholastic abilities. I really appreciate the fact that the school relies on STAR Literacy testing to gauge our children's literacy development. As a parent, I am convinced that the scores noted on the STAR testing truly reflects the progress our children have made towards their vocabulary, phonics, language, and numeracy skill sets. I have personally seen the improvement in scores for my children and as noted above truly credit the teachers for the excellent scores my children have attained. I have no doubt that my children are well prepared for their next academic year. Based on praises from friends and family, I personally take pride in knowing that we made the right decision to send our kids to OMGC. Scholastic achievements noted above are great but is not what my wife & I consider the only factor that matters. At OMGC, the school provides a very safe and supportive "Christ Centered" environment where my children learn what it truly means to be a good person. Just like learning skill sets such as math, science, reading... understanding the importance of having respect for others, helping others in need, being thankful are just as equally if not more important lessons to learn. We realize that the cost of Catholic education is truly an investment for our children. Simply put the cost of attending OMGC is reasonably priced as compared to other private institutions in the Los Angeles area. With two of our children attending OMGC, benefits such as sibling programs make attendance at OMGC affordable.

While no place is perfect, we've found the school to be an amazing and beautifully cultivating educational experience for our kids. We've absolutely loved more than 95% of the teachers and while administration has changed a few times since we've been there, they've all treated us and our children with respect and warmth and have continued to push forward the founding principles and mission of the school. It's not easy to get in and we consider ourselves very lucky. The community there is fantastic and we're finding parents we absolutely adore from the other campuses now that our kids have collected in Burbank. The board is a very hard-working group of volunteers, many of them parents, some for 15+ years at the school. They put in an incredible amount of time and effort to uphold the school's mission and while that sometimes involves making tough decisions that not everybody agrees with, I feel that their hearts and intentions are in the right place. The school is very unique in the academic programs that they offer. In fact, there are only 4 or 5 others in the entire country that match it. The school offers an IB and an FB tract and the program focuses on growing kids from K through 12 towards an incredible university acceptance rates. In 2015, The Washington Post listed LILA as the nation's 12th most challenging private high school. Tuition is going up and some parents are understandably upset by it, but the school also involved a group of parents (CFOs, CPAs, etc.) for a formal budget review against a strategic plan and the budget was approved, so it wasn't approved in a vacuum. There was a 3-year projection of tuition increases but also lots of caveats to that as well as plans on how to reduce it. The school is growing and does have growing needs, but it's the same spirit and culture as when we started and if you're considering it, I highly recommend you visit the school and see for yourself. We love it there and couldn't recommend it more highly!

Students graduate from this school with either an IB (International Baccalaureate) or a French Bac, both very high-level diplomas that give the students 1-2 years worth of credits in university. The school's grads have an incredible 100% pass rate as well as 100% acceptance rate into top universities WORLD-wide - Oxford, Princeton, Stanford, Columbia, McGill, just to name a few. This is the only school in LA where the students get to choose between the IB DIPLOMA or the FB diploma program. Don't let other schools fool you into thinking they are offering the equivalent in IB - they may offer various IB subject classes but the diploma is another thing entirely and university admissions counselors know this. The IB Organization in Geneva has strict diploma requirements on Higher and Standard level subjects covering both the Arts and the Sciences, a Theory of Knowledge class, an extended thesis essay and 150 hours of community service hours. At this school, ALL students take the IB or the French equivalent, the bac, not just a select few top students. The academics here are not for the faint-hearted! The secondary school moved last year from cramped quarters to this lovely campus in this equestrian neighborhood and the new facilities have pushed the school to a new level. All classrooms sport interactive SMART boards as well as white boards so that students can literally write on the walls! The faculty are highly qualified - either under the French Ministry of Education or the IB organization - the majority have high level degrees and/or teaching credentials. The administration is energetic, creative, efficient, and definitely have a clear vision for continuing forward. THIS is what a school should be.
