I purchased a 2023 Hyundai Palisade Ultimate Calligraphy from River City Hyundai expecting a safe and reliable family vehicle. What I received has been unsafe and unreliable, with repeated failures and constant deflection. At just over 53,000 km the engine failed catastrophically near Rocky Mountain House. My family was stranded and we walked for about an hour and a half along a highway ditch to reach town. Hyundai Roadside towed the SUV to Gary Moe Hyundai in Red Deer. Their diagnosis showed misfires on cylinders two four and six, zero compression on two of those cylinders, liner wear, and the need for a short block replacement. The heads were machined and valves resealed. I was without the vehicle for weeks and had to push for a rental, then had to fight to keep the rental while the repairs were being made. To be fair, River City Hyundai did arrange transport of the Palisade from Red Deer back to Edmonton when repairs were completed. Days after I picked it up the vehicle failed again. It developed an RPM matched ticking sound, lurched heavily, would not accelerate past 20 km per hour with the pedal depressed, and would not rev past 3000. There was no check engine light. It had to be flat bedded again. I was later told the catalytic converter had failed, which fits as a downstream effect of the original engine event that I had repeatedly told them to look into... Keep in mind this happened literally two days after I got it back. Since this second failure communication from River City Hyundai has become evasive. The sales manager who had been engaging with me has not provided clear answers. My requests for a straight response on next steps and on a buyback review and even a rental car have been getting ignored. It feels like deflection and now they just want to ignore the underlining issues to make me go away. This vehicle is unsafe and unfit for purpose. The repairs to date have not restored reliability or confidence and essentially point to gross negligence. Take my experience as a warning. As much as Hyundai will tell you they stand behind their warranty and as the sales manager told me "go above and beyond" you will be left having to fight them every step of the way. This isn't a one time event either, search up Hyundai engine failures and you will read many stories just like mine. Do not buy a Hyundai and do not buy from River City Hyundai. read more

Brought my 2019 Hyundai Elantra here to be diagnosed in relation to a recall that was previously issued on my vehicle. I've researched this recall a bunch, watched tons of videos of 2016-2020 Elantras with this exact engine noise and oil consumption issue, and it all aligns with my vehicles exact problems. Engine failure is EXTREMELY common for Hyundais, and there a tons of recalls surrounding this. If you drive one, just do a quick google search on your vehicle year, make, and model, and I guarantee you will find a recall related to a faulty engine. I had a friend who previously worked in the service department at Hyundai and told me she would have 1-2 cars come in a day with the same recall issue I was having, and the dealership would honour extended warranty and replace the engine free of charge. My engine was making a ticking noise so I requested a diagnoses to find out if my car was suffering from the recall issues. They discovered my oil was empty despite always following Hyundai's recommend oil change every 6,000km, but refused to diagnose why my oil was empty aka why my engine was burning oil. The major safety recall directly from Hyundai says "The engine's pistol rings may be defective. This can cause engine wear that can lead to increased oil consumption. Eventually this can create abnormal engine noise... if you continue to drive your vehicle with these symptoms the engine could fail and potentially catch on fire." Despite my vehicle making an abnormal engine noise and my oil being consumed, the service advisor Chantelle kept telling me the two had nothing to do with each other. I would be fine with this if they actually tested it and checked the engine's oil pistol rings, but they wouldn't test it and said I'd have to pay another $300 on top of the original diagnosis fee. So instead of doing the diagnosis that I requested in the first place (which was to determine if my car was suffering from the major safety recall), they tried to gouge me for more money for another test. Mind you, my car was there for 7 hours, and all they did was test for codes and change my oil, which really should take max 2 hours. I asked to speak to a manager so Chantelle proceeded to bring over another service advisor, Andrea, who was also useless and just reiterated the same nonsense Chantelle said. They probably repeated "oil consumption is not related to the recall" about 30 times even after I showed them the exact recall notice directly from Hyundai's website. $180 and 7 hours wasted, and my original concerns I came in for were never answered - What is the diagnoses, why is my engine making this sound and consuming oil, and is my vehicle experiencing this recall problem? This is what I came in for and paid for, yet they could never gave me an answer, so what was I paying for the diagnoses for? They showed that all they really cared about was money and wholly neglected any type of customer service and care. I know dealerships often have ill intent, but this was just sad to see. There wasn't even a manager present on shift to address the neglect and terrible customer service. Pretty bold to not have at least one boss around when your service advisors have zero clue how to properly do their job. read more

I would buy a car from here as we did from DAN is was issue at the start we sign for a car and found out it wasn't there we had to wait for it to be delivered. The car was late being delivered. Dan was very pushing didn't know all the numbers. When we came to pick up the car we had to sign again I got home and found out they weren't the same ones we had 3500 warranty charge on it they also charged a extra 65$ for the tank of gas they put in the new car The next day I get a text from Dab asking we're the pictures for the registration and insurance is at When they never asked for them he stated we need to give them to home and fixed the paperwork he mess up. So there I was, driving my Mustang into the Express Lane at River City Hyundai for my 11:00 oil change appointment. I was immediately approached by a service advisor and three techs who took care of me right away. It reminded me of the scene in Back to the Future when Marty McFly arrives in 1955 and is surprised to see multiple attendants servicing one car. I think we're all used to being approached by sales people at dealerships, but never service staff. Krysta, the General Manager of the dealership came out to greet me as well. She said that they don't see many Mustangs in there. Then it occurred to me that I must have stood out like a kangaroo in a dinner jacket bringing a Ford into a Hyundai dealer. I took the car to River City because I noticed that they've been actively promoting their express oil change service which they said would be completed in a half-hour and would include a car wash and an interior vacuum. Well, that's fighting talk so I decided to take them up on it. My last few experiences at automotive establishments have been horrid enough to make me consider giving up motorized transportation for good so I was looking to try someplace new. Generally in the automotive world appointment times are rarely honoured, the communication is terrible, and the questionable upselling of parts and services they try and inflict on you is brutal. Fortunately, none of the above applied at River City. They offer a quick, yet personable and comfortable, consumer experience as opposed to an assembly line sausage factory. The customer waiting area is like an airport VIP lounge with its free wifi, padded chairs, and free Starbucks beverages. There's a soft drink machine too. Most dealers clear some junk out of a corner in a back room, throw in few hemorrhoid-inducing chairs, some years-old magazines, and a crusty old Mr. Coffee machine and call that a "customer lounge." River City's waiting area is actually located in the vehicle showroom. This worried me a little at first as I thought maybe I would be inundated by salespeople with vehicle brochures. Nope. Didn't happen. The sales staff seem to stay clear of waiting customers. Close to the half-hour mark, Matt, the service advisor I talked to at the beginning, came around to tell me the oil change was done and the car was being cleaned. In the meantime we went over the paperwork and he explained the services performed. Like most dealers, River City does a "health check" on customer vehicles which involves inspecting the tires, battery, alignment, and the brakes. This is where I really paid attention because I just had those issues worked on recently and I knew they were good to go. I would have been disappointed if Matt told me they needed to be "worked on." But he told me everything looked great. No unnecessary upselling. Yay! At the end of our conversation my shiny car was waiting for me. So yeah, it was a stress-free, low maintenance, and comfortable visit. All the staff I talked to are friendly and seem to enjoy working there. And obviously, River City Hyundai service all makes and models of vehicles, you don't have to have a Hyundai to patronize them. They also have a Yelp check-in offer. read more

I popped in today for an express oil change and had a great experience with these folks! Matt was awesome and walked me through how their express service works, and I was blown away to learn that their oil changes (which are similar price-wise with every other business I've contacted) come with a ton of extra complimentary services as well- including a car wash!! I was also delighted to discover that they left me a bottle of water in my spotless car. It was a quick process (35 mins) and I could actually see them working on my car. I enjoyed a Starbucks cappuccino in their waiting area, and also met the general manager, Krysta, who was a sweetheart. Matt sat me down afterwards and went through their detailed report (my car was in excellent shape- woohoo!). Overall super impressed with River City Hyundai. This is only for the service department. Made a reservation to come in early morning from out of the town to finish the final procedure. Arrived around 830 and waited at the waiting area. Got a book to finish anyway. Went up to inquire the progress after 3 hrs. Apparently the windshield installer was not here yet, and wouldn't be here for another 1hr or so????? !!!!!! What's appointment for, if not to ensure things will be done when customers get here??? I can understand some slight delay, but getting me drive in in the early morning just to let my car sitting at their parking lot for 4 or more hours???? This really confirms what I saw before. I often say that everyone makes mistakes, but you can truly judge character by how one handles them. I don't really know what to say other than I appreciate her efforts. I don't ever write reviews to inform businesses of my unhappiness, only to inform other potential customers. If you have had a negative experience here, I encourage you to reach out to Krysta, there is no doubt she will do whatever she can to try to fix it. Buying the car, River City staff were great. Friendly and professional. I was talked into purchasing dent and scratch protection, which I thought was a good idea. About 3 weeks after having my car, someone decided to kick my driver's side door as they walked by. I phoned RCH Service Department and told them what happened and asked if they could do anything. They said it was "tire season" and there would be 2 weeks before they could look at it. I took the car to them to speak to someone in person. A service advisor came out to look, and said he'd leave a message for the detail manager to call me. He took pictures and said someone would contact me the next day. It's been over a month and no phone call. Now I'm in Nova Scotia until May, and the car is parked until I get back. Thanks, River City Hyundai. This experience is the reason I talked my wife out of a Palisade and we bought a 21 F-150 instead. You guys will never see my face again. I've bought and sold more than 15 cars in my lifetime and I can say that the overall experience at River City was better than the average dealership. The finance department was knowledgeable and experienced. The salesperson was also super friendly, knowledgeable and straightforward to deal with. Her name was Kailey. We did have an issue with the new car sales manager. Call it a misunderstanding. But after a discussion with the general manager she was able to resolve the issue beyond our expectations. She seemed genuinely concerned about having happy/satisfied customers which is appreciated. So overall a 4.5/5 experience. I would definitely recommend buying a car from them. read more

Well it has been years since my last review of River City Hyundai. I decided to give the service department another chance because I believe things most likely changed. I booked a major service for my car that included oil change and a general check. I also added the anti freeze flush and change the air filter. The total cost was almost $600. Despite the cost I think the service department did an amazing job. the people at the front were very nice and professional. They followed through with everything they said. I am more than happy to recommend River City Hyundai now and I am glad we can put the past behind us. Great job River City Hyundai! read more

I bought my Santa Fe Sport AWD at another dealer in Edmonton. My vehicle has 76,000 kms. I told them at my last oil change that I was going on a road trip down east. They said that I needed a brake flush, transmission flush, fuel injectors cleaned, rear Differential and Transfer case flush and an alignment. So, I literally live up the road from River City and I knew that I would need another oil change before I left because of the kilometers I would be using. I took my Santa Fe Sport AWD to River City on Saturday, the 22nd of July. My service rep Aimee was awesome and when I said I wanted the road trip special which is an oil change and peace of mind inspection plus an alignment, I was quickly informed that my alignment did not need to be done. They proceeded to do the oil change and inspection. I specifically was worried about the transmission because of the other dealer. When I got my car back, washed and vacummed I might add, my SUV came back with a clean bill of health. I gave them every opportunity to do an alignment and a transmission flush but they were honest and said not needed. Now that is honesty. Aimee and the rest of the staff I had the pleasure of meeting were incredibly helpful and nice, polite and friendly. We usually bring our vehicles to the quick lube outfits for oil changes but after bringing two of our cars to River City Hyundai for servicing, I will probably never go to a chain quick lube place again. Usually I avoid getting oil changes at dealerships mostly because of price - they are generally more expensive then the chain lube stores. And River City Hyundai is no exception to that. However, they washed our vehicle and did a quick clean of the interior which pretty much evens out the price of getting a oil change and car wash elsewhere. Give or take a few bucks. They promised an oil change and wash in under 30 minutes time, and they definitely delivered. The service adviser was friendly. And unlike the lube chains, there were no hard upsells. Yes, they suggested a few things but I did not feel pressured to fork over more money to get them done. It is more like "We found these few things wrong, and if you would like we can fix them" and that was about it. We will be trying them out for service this spring and will most certainly be going back for oil changes. Once we get service done I will update the review. read more

If I can give this dealership ZERO stars, I would. This Dealership has sold me a car with extreme internal issues. Imagine, sitting in your car in Jasper and your horn goes off uncontrollably and theres nothing you can do to stop it. Except, pulling the horn fuse out. No more horn. Imagine after you turn off your car, lock the door and walk away, the radio stays on and drains your battery, no matter if you turned the radio off manually. Pulled the radio fuse. No more radio. Imagine having to manually unlock the door, because the automatic locks only work occasionally. Imagine, you're pulling up to the drive-thru and your window doesn't work. Imagine going to work everyday, and not knowing if your car is going to turn on, and having to miss work because of this. Imagine, you jumped your car everyday to go to work, and now your co-worker has to jump your car to go home. Every person in my life has been affected by this car. Now imagine this, paying 22,000 for this car in total and having a warranty, and the dealership NOT fixing the problem permanently. Imagine this, the dealership also agreeing that you're car is unreliable and cursed, and my BEST OPTION is to buy a 2020 hyundai elantra, totalling up to 36,000 on top of my current financing. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS DEALERSHIP. read more

I did not receive the best service from river city. Although they helped me out with my new vehicle, and made sure I was "comfortable" I feel as though they took advantage of me just because I am an 18 year old female. After I test drove the car they rushed right into pricing and what they can do so I take this home, what sales personnel do.. however there wasn't a whole lot of talk about the vehicle itself, what is has what it doesn't have and how it could be beneficial to me it just felt like this was a car they were desperate to sell. Another thing that really bothered, They knew I was from out of town, and worked a lot so coming to the city took a lot of effort and planning (plus gas money and such) So with that in mind I had wasted 2 of my Mornings driving to the city to "pick up" my car that wasn't ready and they didn't even call me to tell me it wasn't ready. Also when you buy a new car they detail it... inside and out... although it was reasonably clean they had it parked outside when they knew I was coming and it wasn't as clean as it should have been and the inside was clean but not as clean as it should have been considering it was "detailed". The people are nice enough but I don't feel they serve ALL of their customers the best. If you are young and dealing with a dealership for the first time... I would not recommend them. However if you already have a feel of how it goes and know exactly what you want I feel like this would be the place for you! read more

If I could I would give them no stars. Wouldn't recommend them to anyone. I have had nothing but problems with them since buying my Santa Fe 6 months ago. I chose to not to return to Lamb Ford after my car was written off because I loved the Santa Fe but I am quickly learning that was a mistake and regret that decision. RCH has given me poor customer service and have not and will not stand behind the car they sold me. Recently my car has has problems the steering wheel locking up and my brakes locking up while driving. No loaner was provided so I was out of a car for a week. They towed the car from camrose to the shop but couldn't find a problem and the lady I spoke with about it basically implied I was making it up. Picked up my car and as I was driving home the steering wheel locked up on the highway. Called the next day and told them they issue happened again. When I mentioned I wanted to go to ford and get rid of the Hyundai they quickly helped. Dan drove down to pick up the Santa Fe and drop me off a loaner. When I bought the car 6 months ago I spent 5 hours at RCH which was a waste of time and nothing but a headache. The girl who did my financing was rude to me and the guy I came in with. She is as also very insulting to both of us. She told the guy who came in with she would send him a cheque for 500$ because he was unhappy with her and that money never came. When I was doing my financing she told me several time over the course of an hour I was approved and unapproved. It was frustrating and just like she couldn't do her job. Finally she said I wasn't approved so I told her that's alright I would go back to Ford. 5 min after I left she called and said she worked a miracle and I was approved. I should have never went back to get the car. The whole buying process was stressful and disorganized and just not a good experience all together. RCH has been nothing but bullshit and drama. Very poor customer service skills and hasn't been a positive thing since I bought the car. I'm ready for them to take they car back and I will go back to Lamb Ford. I want nothing to do with RCH after the last 6 months. read more
