Rivendell came out and trimmed one of my trees in January and also tied down an older juniper that almost blew over in one of our windstorms. The tie down snapped and I called Rivendell and Andrew came out the next day and tied it down properly. Was walking behind a fellow as we were leaving the British Car Show at Liberty Park. He was following the sidewalk to a rest room. Young man circled in photos approaches said fellow and begins to get in his face. He points at the yellow ribbon laying in no particular serpentine pattern on the ground. "Can't you see this tape?!? It's dangerous ! You aren't supposed to be around this! etc, etc." The truck at that point was much further south of the sidewalk and the person would have been long gone if he did not have to stop and pause to listen to this kid power tripping! The tape was not elevated, laying in any kind of shape indicating any area to avoid. He only straightened it out after we passed! Still on the ground, not any of the orange cones. Maybe, just maybe the tape should have been properly set up and there would not have been any issue!! WHAT A JOKE! Made a lasting impression on me of Rivendell! read more

I used Yelp to request a quote and they were quick to respond and set up an appointment. They quoted me on three trees in our yard and due to cost we ultimately had them come in and prune just two. The work they did was excellent, efficient, and I was especially pleased at how on time the team was. We hired Rivendell to remove a 90+ foot tall poplar from our back yard. We've worked with a number of other tree services in the past and always been disappointed. Rivendell was nothing like the others. They were prompt, professional, reasonably priced, and did excellent work. One of the owners, Gary (a certified arborist), responded to our bid request the same day. He came out the following day, exactly when he said he would. He gave us a very reasonable WRITTEN bid on the spot. He also talked with us at length about replacement tree options, and a variety of other things. The crew showed up right on time. They were very friendly and did an excellent job. Another of the owners, Brian (also a certified arorist), showed up during the job to check in with us. The crew kept us updated throughout the day on what was happening. When they finished, the crew leader, David, walked through the project and made sure we were happy with what was done and how things were cleaned up. They were so great to work with. Their quote was less than 60% from the other quote we got to get our tree cut down and stump grinded. They responded fast for the quote, scheduled it within 2 weeks during a busy season, and their guys cut the tree down quickly. Very few contractors do what they say and say what they do. Rivendell actually did what they said they would when they said they would! We found them on line. Called them, they showed up for the consult when they said they would. We were in the middle of quite a few projects and it was nice to actually have someone show up when they said they would. We are out of town owners and this was one of our rental properties. It was very difficult trying to work with contractors within our limited time frame. We were very upfront with them letting them know we were collecting bids. After meeting with 3 other "tree experts" we were most comfortable with Gary. He had a team of people and was an actual certified Arborist. His price wasn't the cheapest but we didn't mind paying the right guy with the right credentials. We had several very large trees removed. We were very concerned because the trees were close to the house and had the potential for a very disastrous situation. His team showed up when they said they would, took their time and did the job. Our neighbor even came out and hired them on the spot to trim their trees. His team was very professional, courteous and cleaned up afterward. Something we found most contractors didn't do. As mentioned we had several projects going on at the same time. Roof repairs, electrical repairs, front door replacement and of all the contractors we were working with Rivendell was the most professional and the only team we didn't have to call back to "fix what they already fixed". Arborists on staff, reasonable prices-Huge recommendation My daughter recommended Rivendell to us for a huge bonsai cottonwood tree in our backyard that need to be pruned and shaped particularly over the house which had several big dangerous limbs. They had done a lot in her yard and it was really outstanding work and we both like that they have arborists on staff that meet with you. They care about trees and what makes them healthy. Pruning and saving tree (if they can) and shaping them better is what they are about, not just coming and cutting off limbs willey-nilley as Blands had in the past for us. Their arborist came and looked at the tree and especially the limbs (huge ones) over the house. he explained what and how they would be trimming and shaping the tree and the price (which was super reasonable based on our past experience with many tree company bids and Blands who actually pruned the cottonwood several years in a row.) While he was the arborist suggested that we should spray the tree for bores (he said they could do it for us if we would like, but it's easy and we could do it ourselves and save money) he then gave us the name of what type of spray the kind of sprayer to get and where (IFA). I also brought up the Iron chlorosis problema I have in my beautiful row of six chanticleer ornamental pear trees that stretch across the back of our yard, it is bad and every year I drill holes and feed them liquid iron supplements, super expensive, a hassle and not good for the trees really anyway, but it was the only thing that helped--some. The arborist told me to get chelated iron powder supplement. I told him I had tried it and it didn't work. He said, yeah we have only ever found one brand that works here in Utah. He gave me the brand and told me they also sold that at IFA. Well MIRACLE!! I bought it and put it on the pear trees and then my wisteria and aspen trees (even though it was later in the season than it should have been) and amazing they all greened up and look so much healthier. No more drilling the poor things. He said next year if we apply it in early april we see even more of a dramatic difference. His advice was priceless! They came out to prune the big cottonwood tree 2 weeks later. They had to climb the tree to get the big limbs over the house and it was so windy but they did a great job. The tree looks balanced and shaped now (and we had a lot less cotton too ;). They were professional, knowledgeable, response to our concern, checked back to be sure we were satisfied with their service. The crew who came out to prune as well as the arborist were really nice, we enjoyed having them work on our property. You want to use this company for all your tree work. They will be the ones we call every year. read more

These guys know their stuff! We called to get some info on trees that were planted in a home we recently purchased. They came out the same day and spent an hour with me letting me know what we needed to do to give our beautiful trees a wonderful and full life :) we ended up having to get a few trees taken out that were planted too close to the house. I had let the guys know that the sooner they could be taken out the better because one of the trees was hitting our house every time the wind kicked up. They ended up coming back out later that afternoon and taking the trees out for an amazingly fair price and right before a major holiday. Our large Globe Willow tree was damaged during one of the recent wind storms in Lehi, UT. Rivendell came out to evaluate a large crack that we'd noticed develop in the trunk. The proximity to my house and our neighbor's houses meant it was time for the tree to go. They quoted us a very fair price to remove the tree, and grind the stump. Despite some logistical issues, Rivendell worked with me and got the work done. Our fence was damaged in the process, and they promptly replaced all of the broken pieces, going out of their way to accommodate myself, and my neighbor who shares the fence. Despite the loss of our big tree, we will be calling them again in the future to plant a replacement, and to maintain our other, smaller trees. Thanks guys! read more

I would not recommend this company. I had them out to trim an old Siberian Elm about 45' tall. Their guy didn't do any rope work like prior arborist had done, and tried doing everything off a boom truck that didn't have the reach. Here's what $1200.00 bought me..... I have had more limbs break off since they "pruned" it, than they cut off originally. They are not small limbs they are HUGE LIMBS. Neither one of the owners bothered to come over to look at their employee's work after my initial complaint. They of course blamed it on a prior company's trim job...... only problem with that argument, this never happened after the other company trimmed it last. 7 years ago. I have had 3 companies come look at this nightmare the last few days, they have all said they did a horrible job in what they called "witch brooming" and "lions tailing". I would have been better off flushing my money down the toilet........Run away! read more

Did a great job! Came the day I called and gave a fair estimate. Our large walnut and maple trees had had not professional pruning ever and were out of control. One branch was rubbing on the roof and causing damage. Rivendell has several university trained arborists and they really know what they are doing. They came the next day to take care of the trees and I was very impressed with their safety, care, and good communication with me. They even took the time to snap a photo of the damage to the roof for us. They cleaned up all the debris and even blew off the patio. Our yard looks great now. Wonderful company! read more

I had 2 large (app 18" diameter trunk) Austrian pine trees in my side yard that were 12' from my neighbors house on one side, 14' from my fence and shed on the back side, and 18' from my deck on the other side. I previously lived on a farm and have felled 50+ trees over the past 14 years. This job was too risky for me to do on my own. I received 4 bids to do the work and Rivendell was not the lowest, but within shouting distance. Gary met me on site and provided the bid for Rivendell. He was obviously knowledgeable and confident, but not pushy, or rushed. He made by far the best impression of the 4 bidders that I met. Based on that and good reviews on line, I chose Rivendell and scheduled with them to do the work a little more than a week later based on my work schedule. The Rivendell crew arrived as scheduled on the agreed upon date. It was cold, intermittently snowing, and intermittently windy all day. The crew got to work and dropped both trees to ground level, hauled away all the debris (except for three 8' trunk sections that I requested they leave for me to use as yard furniture), and cleaned up in one day. They used ropes and riggings to top and drop the trees safely. They were well under the estimated day and a half time frame, yet were never in a rush, and did no damage to my property or my neighbors property. They were efficient, professional and courteous throughout the job. I would not hesitate to use them again, and would highly recommend Rivendell to anyone who needs tree work done. read more
