Ritual Arts is a piece of art itself. I have been coming here for 20 years. This lovely Mecca of cool occult items, jewelry (there was even a silver and stone dragon cigarette holder in there which was gorgeous!), incense (I buy a lot of this), tarot decks, and a massive myriad of other art and mystical items (athame anyone? Crystal ball? Green man for your wall? Something Egyptian themed? They have a display for that...) Plus every time I walk in I have the pleasure of greeting Love Bomb, the cat, who is one of the animals that hang out in the store. His majesty is all personality and I love it. Eclectic store with occult/metaphysical stuff, gemstone jewelry, incense, tarot, and pagan/occult/spiritualized home decor stuff at all price levels. The staff and pets are friendly, especially the cat! I've gotten many gifts here for my Mom, just lovely blown glass ornaments and candle holders. She'll never know their true origins! A must shop for unique holiday gifts - then maybe you can ask the staff to suggest something to help pay your credit card bills afterward? I think this is the only occult supply store left in Boston (unless you count the 'trabajos espirituales' places in JP). They now have a tarot reader and palm reader on staff most days for pressing spiritual concerns (call ahead, sometimes they are booked up). read more

Fascinating little shop on Harvard Ave in Allston. I came in here looking for sterling silver and semi-precious stone pendants and was pleasantly surprised by the huge assortment they have in a revolving display case. The customer can even control the revolving display! They also have an excellent assortment of rings in sterling silver and a wealth of tumbled rocks and minerals like you'd find in a rock shop. I initially found the staff to be really stand-offish, not greeting customers and talking to each other, but when I interrupted to ask to see a pendant, they were super nice. I think a cat randomly darted across my feet while I was looking at the pendants and there was some lady towards the back playing with a parrot. Definitely not your usual shopping experience, but, it's cool. I liked the pendants. Will definitely stop back when I am next in the area. read more

As I was passing Ritual Arts yesterday, early afternoon on Sunday, a parking space opened right in front of me across the street from their front door. I'd been wanting to stop in. Apparently, this was the moment. The whole day had a magickal quality that revolved around flair, from a rock star impersonation wearing my favorite vintage tux jacket to just stepping in the door and seeing the bright smile of the liberal arts cutie behind the counter. Last time I was there I bought a scarf. It was Christmas. A young man was searching for a gift for a female friend. I had the pleasure of suggesting tarot cards, which was well received. They have an awesome jewelry collection, scarves, crystals and wands, incense, artwork and the coolest pets. An African grey, a cockatiel, another parrot, forget his name, the African gray was whistling "This Old Man." Two cats and the poochie who takes Sunday's off. Too bad, I really wanted to see poochie. Forget his name but I know his face. The cutest black cat took a shine to me and helped me pick out exactly what I needed, a brass locket type box on a chain. I have so much love for this place. It's a cute store, filled with wonderful things, friendly people who work there, and a big cat named Love Bomb who loves to take naps in the window. They sell candles, special oils, beautiful and unique jewelry, cards/books, tarot cards, etc. I stop in about once a month to browse around, buy some candles or incense. They have a good size assortment of different incenses. And it's some of the best incense I've ever burned. Good quality and smells fantastic. read more

Friendly atmosphere and everything you see is a gem. Love bomb the cat is a fan of anyone who will give him some good attention! There is no musky odor which is always a plus. Especially when you see a lot of animals in one area. You can feel good energy when you walk in. What I also love is that they know their stuff. This is one of my favorite places in Boston. The environment is very relaxing, the staff are both knowledgeable and friendly, and there is a wide selection of items. The adorable pets are an added bonus. Lovebomb the Cat is very friendly, and Logos (an African Grey Parrot) frequently entertains with his vocal nature and clever antics. Just went today! This place is awesome. I was a little nervous going into the store because (from the outside) it appeared too out of my zone, but I knew I made the right choice when I walked in. I definitely felt at home. The vibes of the store are great and the people working there are super friendly and knowledgeable. They dont hover over you or pressure you at all, which I loved. The prices were good too - what a pleasant surprise. They honestly have SO much stuff... I just picked things that I was drawn too. There wasnt a books section like the one pictured above so the images are a little outdated. Also, you can pay with credit card. This little trip boosted my mood and I'll definitely be back!! I love this place. One day I decided to check it out because I really wanted a tapestry to cover up the white walls of my apartment and I was glad I went in. There is a wonderful African Grey Parrot among other animals in the shop. They have reasonably priced water pipes that are made with local glass, so I couldn't help but to walk out with one. I could walk around here all of the time because there is so much cool stuff to see. They are also really knowledgeable about what they sell. Good place to go for incense and glass bowls as well. I went in looking for a very hard to find incense (powdered incense for slowburners) which is apparently not being sold in stores anymore. The owner was nice enough to go through the back room and find a couple extra samples she had lying around and she gave them to me for FREE! She also gave me the extra slowburner that she had with them. How cool is that? I felt compelled to buy something after her generosity. I grabbed a couple sticks of opium incense (Haven't smoked it in years but I love the smell sooooo much) and a stand for the sticks. I've read review complaining about the place smelling like incense. Seriously? What the F did you expect? Also, the place does NOT smell like cat pee. There were three cats there that were very chill and friendly. Also a couple beautiful birds including what I believe was a gray African parrot. Very pretty. I will most certainly return and give them more business! read more

Ritual is the only place I go to for my incense. I like that you have plenty of choices and you can smell each individual stick haha. As a person who goes there about twice a month for incense I've gotten to know the employees and the animals as well as the merchandise very well. FYI it's $2 for 10 sticks. The last time i was there they had 2 guinea pigs about 4 birds or so and 3 cats so it's a rocking place at any given time. The first time I went in I passed by it on the bus and couldn't resist checking it out. There wasn't any of the typical music wafting from the speakers but instead it was the chirping from a bunch of parrots, I love it! I not only buy incense from there but I've also bought jewelry there because the pieces are not only relatively price but they're also unique. The studs they sell have appealed to me the most. My first was a pair of tutles sculpted in Mexico. And since then I've bought a pair of energy hands earrings which I also wear all the time. I also bought my first MA tapestry there which is probably the most beautiful tapestry I own. They sell glassware too if you're interested. I like going in and talking to the different employees and even the owner who I met recently. I was going to Ritual Arts before I moved to Allston and I'll continue going there even after I leave Allston. read more

ritual arts has a nice atmosphere, mostly. cool jewlery and charms and rings, mostly all associated with some spiritual (tarot, runes,etc) type theme. sells some of the best incense around (used to have to travel to p-town,ma to get it) also has a nice and affordable blown glass selection. an eclectic store that touches on a lot of ritual art hobbies but doesn't specialize in any single one. fyi they have some cool black cats that will great you kindly at the door as well as a few loud but entertaining cockatoos. depending when you go in the customer service /politeness of the person behind the counter may differ. the owners are very helpful. ill leave it at that. read more

" ARE YOU MENTALLY CHALLENGED?! WHAT IS YOUR DEAL?! Nice people do not deserve to be slandered because of your inability to determine what rolling tobacco looks and smells like. Also, I would like to add that witchy stores that sell incense tend to smell like incense (go figure!). Ritual arts is Allston last gem. The store is a celebration of everything spiritual. If you ever have the pleasure of meeting the owner she is truly a wonderful person. Her store is beautiful, you can see the love she puts into it. Things have changed quite a bit and I have seen a lot new things that I would love to buy. Her incense and candles are some of the best. Her prices are very good considering the struggling economy. Ritual arts has a soul. I don't know about you but I am tired of giving my money to soul less stores who don't even smile or say thank you. You always get a warm welcome at Ritual arts plus a chuckle. Also bad reviewer, nag, incense and dragons blood have a very distinctive smell. I would be very careful before accusing someone of something so serious. I am a pagan too and you get what you put out. Don't buy the lady's candles to do spells if you hate her store so much. You give pagans a bad name. I love this place. Five stars for it's location in downtown Allston, which I am quite partial to for its cultured neighborhood-type theme in the first place. Four stars for the pricing, glass blown pipes are NOT the Indian glass you get at some gas stations that break pretty much on their own... The woman who I assume is the purveyor of the store keeps cats there, that's pretty cool and kinda witchy. And back to the neighborhood feeling, she does her ringing-up on a calculator right in front of you, so you know you're shopping in a store with some competence behind it. Good stuff. read more
