Wonderful place to live. Tremendous location. Very responsive to maintenance requests. Roof top is second to none as are other amenities.

Have lived here about four months and overall great experience! Location and staff are awesome. Wanted to share a heads up on a few things I wished I knew for anyone who moves in: 1. Heating/AC is controlled by the building and they only switch over once for spring/summer so it was very hot during the unseasonably warm days!! Bring a fan/AC so you're not running to Target in a sweaty panic like me lol. 2. Four regular and two freight elevators but multiple are often broken so plan accordingly and leave a little early in case of long elevator wait times! 3. Not much noise from neighbors but certain areas are louder, ie. I always hear my neighbors' TV from my bathroom. Figured this out when I heard "THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELLS YOU" after a late night shower and got very scared lol. read more

Rittenhouse Claridge - View from the rooftop! - Apartments Near Me - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

See all

The Rittenhouse Claridge Management is unethical and immoral. They require residents to sign their lease as is with no changes and then they refuse to stand by their own words in their own lease. The Management clearly violated multiple clauses of their own lease written in clear simple language to which there were no alternate interpretations available. They refused to abide by their lease over and over and over, despite multiple infractions of the lease made by my neighbors repeatedly and frequently over an 11 month time period making my life a living hell. Before moving in the building management does not disclose to prospective renters the weird issues with the HVAC systems. The entire building has to be switched from heat to A/C centrally and it is a process that takes several hours and that residents have no control over. That means for 2-3 months a year a bunch of the apartments are at temps that require A/C and the others are at temps that require heat and the residents have no control over it. So every year for 2-3 months there are a lot of people who are way too hot or way too cold and the residents can do nothing about it. The building management tells people who are too hot to open their windows, etc. I was physically attacked (severely bitten) by a dog in my own hallway by a dog who lived across the hallway. When I reported this to the building manager, his immediate response was to ask me literally, "Well what do you want us to do about it?" No shock, no apology, no sympathy and definitely refusing to take any responsibility whatsoever, nor are they going to hold the resident dog owner responsible at all. It was left to me to call 911, PA Animal, Control and the PA Department of Health to report the attacking dog because the building did nothing. I lived in the building for four and a half years and not once were the exteriors of my windows washed. Not one time in four and a half years and they were filthy. Residents are not allowed into the package room if a delivery person or a building employee is putting packages into boxes. These package room closures are completely random in time and frequency, so when you have to pick up a package you never know if you are going to be able to get into the room or not. Many times I had to go to the package room 2 or 3 times to pick up a single package, because the package room was closed when I got there. There is really no reason at all for these random and frequent room closures and the residents hate them. Over the years this practiced wasted my time many times and sometimes delayed me from picking up packages for multiple days. read more

The only good thing about this place is the location, and even that comes with issues. Everything else was absolutely awful. ~The Management is absolutely awful. They are rude, and the attitude they give you is unacceptable and not professional at all. When my lease ended they charged me for a stain that was on the carpet before I moved in. I turned in one of those move-in sheets, but apparently the person working there never put it in my file. She's no longer with the company (gee, I wonder why?!) and therefore I was charged $100 for the stain. When I talked to them about it, all I got in return was attitude, and then they ignored my questions. Is this really how you're going to talk to customers/residents? The apartment was left in great condition but they still charged me for cleaning. ~They raise your rent a lot. And they screw around with the Air Conditioning. The building is a sweatbox both in the summer and the winter. ~They was a period of about 6 months or so when they were shutting down the electricity overnight several times a month. So everyone was without power AND water for prolonged periods of time. When I contacted the Property Manager, I never got a response. ~You couldn't have the dishwasher on and use the microwave at the same time. You couldn't microwave something while using a hand-mixer. You'll blow a fuse. This was VERY frustrating and annoying. I'm sorry, but I should be able to use two things at the same time without blowing a fuse. ~There's A LOT of noise. Honking, yelling, sirens, construction, doors slamming, dogs barking, singing, instruments, and people SCREAMING when they come out of the nightclub nearby. ~They allow people to smoke, so the building stinks, and smoke creeps into other apartments. We had to have our bathroom fan on 24/7 because someone nearby smoked and it stunk up our bathroom. So disgusting. ~There were a few employees on maintenance crew that were straight up rude and need to learn some manners and not to be an a-hole. They don't fix the problems you call about. They make things worse. ~A doggy day care - really? This is where your money is going... [correction, Dog Spa] not much of a difference... Stay far, far away from this place. The only nice people here work at the door. read more

So I visited this place 5 times while deciding where in Center City to live. I had a list: luxe amenities, washer/dryers in unit, good views, fitness center, doorperson, on the square, dog-friendly. My first two appointments were canceled because of snow. When I finally got in, I was unimpressed with the lobby. But more importantly, there was ALWAYS something a little off happening. EVERY time I went staff people in the lobby were having either loud, personal, or un-interruptible convos, making me just have to sit or stand there. More than once I had to listen to the tail end of some conversation before a staff person located my appointment. When I was finally shown apartments upstairs, again, there was always just SOMETHING a little off for a luxury space: shoes in the hallway; umbrellas propped outside, noise. All of these things are ok in some buildings, but the Claridge markets itself as a luxury space, and typically that sort of thing is frowned upon. The final thing that bothered me was the pricing. I had a number (+/- a couple hundred bucks or so) in mind, and one that was more than reasonable given my research of other buildings on the square. I was looking in January for a move-in in March, and the monthly price differed by HUNDREDS of DOLLARS. So in essence, if I were to have signed a lease in January for a March 1 move-in, I'd have paid several hundred dollars more than if I signed the lease for a January move-in. I recognize that some buildings use this system, but ultimately, the difference in price for the same apartment was a huge turnoff, as was the non-refundable pet deposit. Just call it a fee :) No washers or dryers in the apartments! There are machines on each floor, however. But still a no go for me given the little issues above. The fitness and shared spaces on the second floor are INCREDIBLE, and the dog wash space is really cool too. Other good things: the apartments are easily the most spacious on the square and utilities are included. Great bonuses, but not enough to get me there. (I went with the place next door.) Ultimately it didn't seem like a bad place to live, but for me, whose hope was a luxe, quiet, perfectly-run space, the Claridge didn't quiet get there. read more

Really liked living here. Very dog friendly. Staff was great and maintenance was always quick!

There are so many things I hated about my 9 months at the Claridge that I will need to use bullet points: 1. If you are a person who values their peace and quiet, this is absolutely not the place for you. Not only do the noises from the busy area carry up even seventeen floors, but the walls between apartments are so thin, you will hear every single phone conversation or (unfortunately) party your neighbors are having. I spent many a night listening to my neighbor talk on the phone until 2am. In addition to that, simply consider the Claridge like a hotel. There is constantly something or someone making noise in the hallway, often it is construction of some sort. I have a dog who barks when he hears people outside our door and I can't even tell you how many complaints I received about his barking only to come home and find out that they had been working right outside my unit. 2. Many of the washing machines in the laundry room on the 3rd floor are broken but there are no signs to warn you. Ensure that you take a good look at a machine before you start filling it with your clothes and your detergent. Some machines were down for the entirety of my lease - a whole 9 months! 3. Some of the staff at the Claridge is plain out rude and unfriendly. One specific individual works the front desk, is an older woman with black hair and bangs. She won't help, she will barely even listen when you call down with a maintenance issue and she will never say thank you or sorry. Other staff is more incompetent than rude. When I first moved in, I received a letter under my door threatening to evict me as I had a dog in the unit and hadn't paid my deposit. I DID pay my deposit and I had to call the office to ask them to kindly look at my account before putting threatening letters under my door. After checking the system, they agreed that yes, I had in fact paid the pet deposit but they never apologized for the unwelcoming threat. 4. If you are a dog owner, the elevators are quite a nuisance as they designate only three as pet friendly, two of which are service elevators that are used every morning by maintenance (during peak rush time hours when people need to walk their dogs before heading to work). One of the regular elevators was down pretty much every week, leaving all the pet owners to wait a long time just to take out their dogs. When, out of sheer desperation and in an attempt to avoid your poor pet from peeing themselves, you dare to take a non-pet friendly elevator, letters will be put under everyone's doors and emails will be sent to everyone about it! 5. The rent increases are completely absurd. They roped me in with a special which was nice at the time, but for some reason it was cheaper for a shorter lease than a regular full year lease. When my lease came to an end I received a letter with my various options. The rent had been raised by over $100 if I renewed for 6 months. If I chose to do month to month or decided to commit to another year, the rent jumped astronomically. 6. The first three months that I lived at the Claridge I was not able to use my oven as it would set off the fire alarm. When maintenance finally came out to fix the issue, their solution was to unplug it and take it off the wall. Screw safety! 7. Maintenance will come into your home unannounced. Often times I am not even sure what they did in my unit. There was a plumbing issue this past winter and I lost hot water for an entire week. Each day maintenance would let themselves in, upset my dog (which caused my neighbors to complain) only for me to come home and see that nothing had been fixed. Could they have been hanging out on my bed watching my Netflix? I'll never know. I asked management to please let me know ahead of time if someone was planning to go into my unit so that I could crate my dog, they never complied with my request. I will end by saying that the front door staff was always extremely sweet and Anthony in the office always answered my emails promptly. read more

I really enjoyed the time that I spent living here. The building is in a great location and was very convenient to where I was doing my internship. Many of the units have great views, people visiting me always told me how much they liked mine. I had nothing but good interactions with all of the management and staff. Everyone was super helpful and communicated in a positive and timely manner. I wasn't very impressed with the lobby or the fitness center but they weren't terrible. If I ever end up in Philly again, I would definitely come back to Rittenhouse! read more

I lived in the Rittenhouse Claridge building for 11 years!! As a graduate student (back in 2008), it was the perfect place for me and continued to be a wonderful residential community in the years to come. The porters, maintenance, and front desk are just amazing! It has always been a very welcoming, safe, and friendly environment for me. I love living right outside the park (and all the fantastic shops and restaurants) in Rittenhouse Square. It's an easy commute to the airport, train, and bus systems in the city. The leasing office has been lovely to work with too! Michele Tomiselli is a JOY! Plus, she and her team jazzed up the space over the last few years! We have Happy Hours for residents (and occasionally their pets), cooking lessons, holiday festivities, and social gatherings throughout the year. It's so much fun! The 2nd floor lounge is also amazing! I spent so much time as a PhD student working in the lounge in the daytime, but also having friends over in the evenings or for book club on the weekends! It's fantastic! Last but not least, the sundeck has been one of my favorite aspects of the building! I've spent hours up there reading or relaxing or entertaining! It's so lovely! Overall, I have loved living at the Rittenhouse Claridge in my years in Philadelphia. I hope others enjoy the apartments just as much as I have! Wishing you the best in Rittenhouse Square apartment living!! read more

Yes, the Claridge gets 5 stars - it is as good as it gets. The location, the amazing community/recreation/exercise second floor, the front desk , doorpeople, maintenance crew..... are all excellent. But perhaps the best of the Claridge is its staff - they go beyond the required services and create a caring, supportive environment. Michelle, Anthony and Pablo in the leasing office are a team that goes the extra step to make you feel taken care of; Dominic and his maintenance crew more than just take care of the building - they take care of its residents. If you are looking for a "real home" to come home to - the Claridge is it. read more

Other than this location this building has nothing to offer! I have lived here for 5 years and I will move at the end of my lease. I have a studio, and the insulation in this building is terrible. I can hear everything from my neighbors. They have quiet rules after 10 PM, which are never enforced. I have complained multiple times to management and they have done nothing to enforce the quiet time. I am constantly woken up by neighbors after midnight during the week, to loud laughter, tv, music and slamming of doors. Additionally I smell marijuana all of the time and apparently it is a smoke free building. I have also complained about this to management and no notice has been given to the tenants. This building is more like a dorm room in a college than a proper apartment building. My last complaint is the studio is not maintained. The air conditioner causes condensation to accumulate on the ceiling, as a result the ceiling becomes moldy and they need to fix this annually. The same thing happens in the bathroom with the shower and the ceiling over the shower. They haven't fixed any of the ceilings in two years. Additionally, the building has promised a gym and common facilities for the past 2 years.. Neither of these projects are completed, yet the continue to increase the rent. If you have to get up early for work do not move here. The management is not helpful, the rules are not followed. read more

The renovation updates have been completed and it has been a fabulous experience renting at RC. I rented a studio and was satisfied from the moment I stepped in the door renting from Michelle and her staff. The Front Desk staff and Doormen are very friendly. The maintenance older gentleman (forgot his name) works 4-10pm is so prompt, caring and attentive to tenant needs. PABLO with the leasing/management office...is ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL, he deserves a raise!!! The updated facility, gym, lounge and business center as well as the location makes this a no brainer. This building does have a nice mix of seniors and mature students that makes living here a nice experience. I have ALWAYS felt very safe, secure and comfortable living at RC. Moving in and out of the building the staff is VERY accommodating which makes an already stressful experience easier to deal with. Thank you! I gave 4 stars due to the age of the building and the things that go along w/ living in an older high rise building and...unfortunately many of the tenants allow their pets to ride in the wrong elevator. There is 1 pet only elevator, and this policy isn't always enforced. I have had several dogs jump on me while in the wrong elevator and their owners didn't handle this very well...scratches on my legs, jumping on my suits, etc. I'm not a huge fan of the laundry facilities, but at least each floor has a machine available in addition to the main laundry room. read more

I'm leaving the Claridge after calling it my home for 2 years. My favorite part about the building is the location and the staff. Everyone is so nice and I was very sad to say my goodbyes. They are constantly having events for the residents- a wine a cheese happy hour was yesterday. My only real complaint is that the walls are pretty thin. But Michele worked with me to try and soundproof it a bit and that helped. I'll miss the convenience the Claridge has to offer. It's the perfect "first city" apartment as it has the safety of a doorman, the great location and the utilities are included. read more

This review is based on their management/leasing team. I put down a deposit fee to hold an apartment after being told I could wait to sign the lease so that I could see other apartments they had that would soon be available for the same move-in date (this occurred 3 months before my lease was set to start). Once they had that deposit, it was IMPOSSIBLE to get any of them on the phone. Emails and calls were all left unanswered. I made a formal complaint to bring it to their attention that one of their employees was not answering calls or emails, and shortly received a call from a lady there who, instead of apologizing, TOLD ME I WAS WRONG. So they have at least 2 incompetent employees on staff there. I figured since management was that difficult now, they wouldn't be much better once I signed a lease so I backed out. I recommend looking a block away (not in rittenhouse) so that you're either paying less for what you're getting or paying the same and getting more. read more

We have lived at the Rittenhouse Claridge for the past 5 months and have found it to be the perfect home for us. Susan Zaremba in leasing was incredibly helpful throughout the process and the entire staff here stand out for how friendly, warm and caring they are. Huge shout out to the front desk, front door and maintenance teams - they are truly wonderful! Everyone seemed to work together to make sure any issues were resolved asap - and they were gracious and warm and very responsive. We did not expect to find such a warm and well-supported community! read more

I love this place. Great location, beautiful views, professional management and well maintained. I see some reviews on here regarding city noise and city life being an issue for some, not sure what those reviewers were thinking moving to center city philly. read more

Overall, I have enjoyed living in this apartment building. The maintenance team is absolutely amazing and responds to issues quite fast. The staff that greets you at the entrance are very pleasant people too. The location is great, close to train stations and fun shopping and dining places. The amenities are amazing- very modern and clean. The leasing agent Derek is an excellent employee. Very responsible, does things on time, and gets back to residents quickly. The building is somewhat old and in the process of being remodeled (which they have been announcing for a while, but hasn't really happened). With this being said, I had trouble with my shower, clogged drains, and the toilet's water ran all day every day despite multiple attempts to fix it. They (maintenance team) did respond to issues like that quickly. I ended up moving because I felt that I was paying too much for the quality of place that I was living in- the carpets are old, bathrooms are old, kitchen appliances are old and give you trouble now and then. Even the remodeled apartments are a little outdated. The leasing team is a little rude, with the exception of Derek and Anthony. Pablo specifically is very hard to get in touch with via e-mail and phone. So if he's your leasing agent, be ready to have to constantly contact him to discuss matters. read more

I lived at the Claridge for 3 years and absolutely loved it!! I had an updated apartment with a city view, which was quite with no issues. The staff and management were always nice and accommodating; from greeting you at the door with courteous doorman and concierge to prompt maintenance and management response to any concern or need I had. I appreciated their interest for my wellbeing as well as the dog's. This building is pet friendly and the staff always is always ready to help with a smile on their face for you and a treat for the dog. We had multiple social events throughout the year organized by Michele Tomiselli, which had a great turnout with good food, drinks and opportunities to meet and network with the neighbors and sometimes even with the dogs (Halloween doggie happy hour is a real treat). I had so many good experiences at the Claridge, I will miss it! Thank you everyone! I would have stayed if I didn't have to relocate with my job. I highly recommend this place! read more

My experience here was very disappointing. I could not be more thrilled to have finally moved out of this place! Pros: - The location is very convenient. Neutral: - I have had a cockroach in my apartment once and three times in the fitness room. I guess it's good that it was only a few times...but I wish it had been never. - The package room will accept packages for you as well as send them out. Unfortunately they have lost mine a handful of times. Cons: - When my lease ended, they kept all but $400 of my $2200 security deposit. I left the apartment in impeccable condition other than some minor normal staining. There is absolutely no reason for them to keep $1800. When I tried to inquire about this, they would not return my calls despite my reaching out to them numerous times. So sketchy! - If you have your dog with you, you have to use the utility elevator which often takes 10+ minutes to arrive and is dirty/smells like trash. - The maintenance crew have let themselves into my apartment on multiple occasions while I was home, which is creepy. When they fix something, they often leave a mess (dirt all over the carpet, splashed dirty toilet water all over the floor, tools left behind). - Cheap/dated design and amenities. - Thin walls. I can hear my neighbor's horrible smoker's cough and farting so clearly that it frequently wakes me up. - Nasty, crotchety, old tenants. I am a woman in her early 20s are often get sneered at by the snooty old folks. It's quite clear that they harbor resentment toward young people who can afford to live there. Two have left rude, threatening letters on my door relating to my dog. I have been referred to as "garbage" to my face, been cursed at, and otherwise verbally harassed by these older tenants more times times than I can count. - Lots of street noise. I hear honking, yelling, and construction all the time. You can do better elsewhere in Center City for the same price. read more

My husband and I moved into a fully furnished "corporate apartment" at the Rittenhouse Claridge a year ago. We were relocating from another state, put our household in storage and planned to live at the Claridge for a few months until we found our next home to purchase. Well it took a lot longer than planned and we are very thankful that we had chosen such a nice place as the Claridge to live in the interim. Reasons we think the Claridge is great: 1. In addition to standard apartments, they offer month to month leases on fully stocked corporate apartments with everything you need from nice furniture to bedding to kitchen utensils. They think of it all. 2. Clean, well maintained building with fabulous new lounge and gym with modern equipment. I spent many mornings on the elliptical trainer watching tv on the personal screen while looking out over Rittenhouse Square. 3. Very responsive staff. Door people are friendly, maintenance people show up fast to address any problems, office people are helpful. Thank you to Pablo, Anthony, Michelle, Dee and Kristina! 4. Monthly Parking is available at an extra cost in the basement of the building - very convenient. 5. Roof Deck in the middle of the city...glass of wine, say no more... 6. Location, location, location - right on Rittenhouse Square in the midst of shopping, restaurants, etc. Easy access to the Schuylkill trail. If the need ever arises, we will be back! read more

Pros: 1) Management & support staff is generally pleasant to deal with and responsive. Repairmen do a great job. 2) Location 3) Renovations for the 2nd floor common area (lounge, business center, fitness center, could use some more traditional "desks" though) 4) Rooms are pretty spacious 5) Lots of closet space (for us girls with a lot of clothes and shoes!) 6) Kitchen amenities are modern. Suggestions for Improving: 1) Hallways are rather "blah" looking. Solid Tan walls with a "blah" brown carpet. Could use some classing up along with some sound panels in the hall. Hallway sound can be heard easily inside the apartment units. 2) Could use some white noise installations for the lounge to drown out people working on group projects. 3) Elevators. They must be programmed wrong because it always takes a while for the elevators to arrive. And once they do arrive, many people with dogs use the non-dog elevators. Management has told people about the dog elevator, but I wish this was enforced more strictly. 4) The biggest annoyance is the lack of outlets. Whenever you use the microwave while you have the AC on, you blow a fuse every time without fail. Poor/old electrical design. 5) The walls are generally thick-looking, but they aren't very sound proof. I can hear loud TVs and dogs from my neighbors. 6) THE ROOF! The roof could use some major work ASAP. While the roof has some breathtaking views, only about ~1/3 of the roof is open for resident use. A massive radio tower (that is no longer even in use, and is a major eye sore. It's probably 20 stories tall) clogs up a ton of space. Management said they were going to take it down a while ago, but it's still there. The roof is just a slab of concrete along with a few simple pool-side chairs to lay down on, and a few outdoor couches. They really need to pump some $ into the roof. If you're standing on the roof and look next door at Parc's roof, you get jealous. Suggestions include: Pleaseeeeee install Wi-Fi (many of us would like internet connectivity as we sunbathe or hang out on the roof), some nice picnic benches to use as work stations, better furniture, a trash can, watter bottle filling station, TV, opening up more of the roof for resident access, the metal fencing is tacky (again, see Parc). The roof has so much potential if done right. Everytime I'm on the roof talking to someone they mention they feel the same way as I do. It's cool that it has great views, but the roof could use some attention, especially with all of the other new apartment buildings under construction. 7) The windows could be thicker. I face the park and there's always some yahoo out there playing the trumpet when I'm trying to work or study. 8) While I have yet to accidentally lock myself out of my apartment, the doorman told me they charge something like $25 to let you in. I'm giving this a 3 out of 5 stars, but I don't view that as harsh. Even though I have a lot to talk about in the "suggestions for improvement" section, it's a good place to live, but could be a GREAT place to live if management paid attention to some of the details I outlined above. read more

I have lived in the Claridge for almost a year now and I love it! The building has exceeded our expectations! Our apartment is very quiet and we never hear our neighbors. It feels very safe here, with a wonderful gym and a good study floor, all of which we use! Our cats feel at home here, too. I love that Rittenhouse Farmer's Market is here every Saturday and also I love the proximity to great shops and restaurants. The staff is friendly and courteous and maintenance has always immediately responded to our concerns. We also love that a couple of apartments are available for all of our out of town guests to stay in on second floor. Love all the dogs in the building! The ONLY thing that we would change is the INCREDIBLY noisy garbage trucks that begin slamming the garbage cans around at 5 am...after all this time, it's still difficult to sleep through. Can't say enough good about this place and the only reason I wouldn't give it five stars is the garbage trucks. Oh, and the rooftop deck is INCREDIBLE! read more
