Luce is one of those places I passed by so often and wondered what it was like, so when my friend asked me to have dinner there last night, it was an immediate yes! This spot has been a staple in Hamden for decades, and it's easy to see why. Luce serves a menu full of classic Italian food, with some of my personal favorites from the evening being the pane cotto and chicken parm. I was really impressed by the style of the dining room! It would be perfect for a fancy date night, or could really stand out as a special event venue, especially if you're looking for a corporate holiday party. Proper attire is required! Our server was also very attentive and friendly.

Proper attire requested. This is a linen tablecloth type of restaurant, with dim lights, dark wood, well dressed and groomed staff. We were well, greeted upon entering, quickly, taken to our table. Edwin was our server and he was prompt, courteous, a good sense of humor. We shared the meatballs appetizer: Juicy, flavorful, hearty. I had the special blackened swordfish which can be tricky, but this was prepared exquisitely - not dry (over cooked) at all! Unfortunately, we left no room for dessert, so we'll have to return to try some! . This is a great place for a date, business meeting, or just a special night out.

The most amazing food. The best service. And the most fabulous ambiance. This food is 10/10. I have been eating here for years and when i looked at the Yelp i was very disappointed in people's reviews. This is a family owned business with the most delicious food in Hamden! I believe this is the best Italian food outside of Italy! And the service and environment is so beyond lovely. It makes you feel like you're in Italy!!!! If you haven't been here, highly recommend coming at 5:30, sitting at the bar and getting any of their specials or staples. It's the best restaurant and food!

It was time to celebrate an incredible friend's magnificent retirement and we all decided on Ristorante Luce at 2987 Whitney Avenue in Hamden. The restaurant offers an unbelievable beautifully decorated outside seating area and off the street parking. For $22 they offered an impressive selection of appetizers, a salad and your choice of an phenomenal entrée. The portions were the perfect size for lunch and the waitress was wonderful. The chicken limone dish and lobster ravioli were amazing. The Caprese salad needed more basil but overall everything was very good.

This lunch special is everything!

I love, love, love Luce! I have been several times and I always bring new friends I am a huge fan of the prix fixe lunch specials, but have also come for dinner. It is always a treat and superb dining experience. This time Art was our server. He is witty and wise! His suggestions and knowledge of the menu was impressive. He was proud to share that he has been employed there for over 20 years. Staff longevity speaks volumes about an establiment. I am happy to support their business. The food was excellent! Every single bite! Did you see the photos? The taste was superior in every way. Stop reading and make yourself a reservation. You won't be disappointed.

Omg such a good time at Luce. The food and service is impeccable! They have a wonderful pre-fix menu available for lunch. App, salad and entree for 22.00 The food portions were huge. We sat outside on a gorgeous October afternoon. Waitress was very nice and once again the food was impeccable. This was my 1st time here and I definitely recommend and will return! I hear the happy hour is also very nice. Definitely check this place out and thank me later. You will not be disappointed.

There food here is very good. They always do a great job. The staff is usually on point. I've had a few minor issues here and there throughout the times I've been here but the food is solid. I'm always trying something different. The bolognese sauce was delicious. Although we thought it was so good we purchased a container to go off it. Unfortunately it disappointed when I got home and warned it up later on. But eating there at the restaurant has always been positive experiences. Warm and cozy.

Pane Cotto

Had an excellent meal out on the patio for my birthday dinner. We started with friend mozzarella and pane cotto for appetizers. The highlight for me was the Misto Portofino - a huge portion of shrimp, scallops, calamari, clams and mussels served over spaghetti. I had a large container of leftovers for the next day. My husband had the chicken parmigiana with a side of penne vodka and my daughter chose the Milanese with chicken rather than veal. We all loved our meals. I have never had a bad meal here. Give it a try if you are looking for high quality Italian food.

Scarola con fagioli. The chili flakes takes it up a notch.

BF and I went here for a celebration. Really great Italian food. I had the most delicious gnocchi. Little cold but otherwise truly lovely.

Food - average Service - average…read more Ambiance - above average Glad that I finally got to try this place. This was a classic American style Italian dinner. Compared to other Italian places in New Haven, this one isn't as authentic but we enjoyed it overall. We tried several dishes. The bread was delicious. They bring an assortment of bread like focaccia with sundried tomatoes and stuffed knots with little pepperoni and sour dough. The salads a little heavy on the dressing and average. The veal was not seasoned at all and relied too much on the sauce to carry the dish. The pasta dishes were both tasty. They didn't taste home made but still enjoyable. The pizza was very tasty. Thin and cheesy in a good way. Overall 7.4/10

A very reasonably priced lunch menu with a wide set of options. I finally narrowed it down to the personal Neapolitan pizza. Arugula, thinly sliced prosciutto, shaved Parmesan cheese, olive oil. It was delicious! I took half home thinking it would make it to dinner. It did not - took about 30 minutes at home before I finished it off. Finished with a coffee. They made us a fresh pot and it too was very good. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We were there about 2 and 1/2 hours catching up and never felt rushed.

It's Sunday and every once in a while... more often than not, we brunch! Lol. We heard about the…read morebottomless mimosa brunch here at Cast Iron Chef Chop House & Oyster Bar so we pulled up to check it out! Here's how it went... Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on the busy State Street is this gem. There's no private parking, but plenty of comfortable, spacious street parking right out front. Once inside you're immersed in a very fine-dining, elegant, laid-back atmosphere. Lots of woods, intimate-low lighting and upbeat music. I loved the vibes in here. The first room is your bar room where the rail is off to the left, but with plenty of seating to the right. If you continue through the room you enter the main dining room where it's all booths and other tables. Service: Stacey was our server. Things got off to a bit of a rocky start, but they smoothed out throughout the brunch. Food/Drinks: The mimosa was okay... It was REALLY strong because there's orange vodka and orange liqueur in it. It kinda killed the flavor for me because I'd prefer a traditional mimosa with minimal juice, but... no matter. They're bottomless... or supposed to be... Just be mindful of who your server is. Brunch can consist of a prix-fixed menu, which is what we did so we'll be going through that. First up were the Homemade Sausage Gravy and biscuits. These were super smothered and fantastic. Hot, savory, meaty, salty and even had a bit of a subtle sweetness. The biscuit was soft, butter and had crispy edges. Next up were the Cinnamon Rolls. These were HUGE. Lol. Like, how are we supposed to eat AND drink all of this stuff?! The exterior of the roll was crispy and the inside very soft. Not over-the-top sweetness or anything. These were very balanced. Next up were the Bananas Foster Pancakes. But this thing was enormous. It was so thick, like literally an inch thick. Lol. Fresh bananas sliced right on top, it cut like butter, was soft with the perfect crispy edges and these were AMAZING. Punch of sweetness up front, fluffy texture and just a great pancake. For dinner, this restaurant usually serves Cast Iron Popcorn instead of bread, so Stacey let us try it! It was smokey, a little-little sweet with a little bit of salt and maybe a hickory barbecue flavor. I liked it. Lastly, I chose the Steak & Eggs over Salmon & Eggs, but got to try both since my wife was with me. Each comes with gigantic fried potatoes, 3 eggs, a piece of toast, caramelized onions and your protein of choice. My steak was cooked perfectly (medium-rare). The flavors were excellent. It was a little fatty and just was done very well. Value: $64.96 for bottomless mimosas and the prix-fixe menu. Probably the best value brunch in the state. SO MUCH FOOD and strong drinks. I don't know what else you'd want! In conclusion, I really enjoyed myself here and have revisited since my first time! Everything was just as awesome as the first. Check this place out if you're in the area!
