This gym is amazing and has changed my life. Everyone is so polite and welcoming from the front…read moredesk to the coaches. I mainly attend the jiujitsu classes and have felt a difference both in my body and my mindset. Each month the class focuses on a position and what can be done in that position. It is hard work but if you put in the hard work it is really rewarding. All of these bad reviews seem unwarranted because they focus on individuals who seemingly try to break contracts. Contracts exist for a reason. If you are even slightly interested I would highly recommend attending. They also have classes for children. When my little one is old enough I hope to enroll him as well. The other day I was watching the advanced adult jiujitsu class and there was a moment the children's class came into the same area to get water. All of the advanced class stopped and clapped for a kid who had gotten a new belt. An mma coach was also making small talk with all the kids and you could tell how encouraged the kids felt. If you are patient, like to work hard and are a consistent person, join. If you are not sure, try their free trial. If you are wishy washy (which is fine if that works for you) then this gym probably is not for you. I have seen people of all ages, shapes, sizes, and experience levels in this gym. They all leave class with a smile on their face. Also shoutout to coach Chris and coach Southside!

Not only did they not allow me to open mat, they also have insane cancellation fees and prey on innocent people who just want to train. Quite frankly you would be better off training in an alleyway outside of a bar, because it would be more inclusive and less predatory, and at least then you probably wouldn't get robbed of 600$.

This school is very family oriented and maintains an educational yet fun environment. The pricing here is very fair for the classes as well as their branded merchandise. The class schedule is also very easy to follow. The daily class schedule for each level of students is different for every day of the week. However, this schedule is the same every week. Once you input the dates into your calendar you can put them on repeat and you'll never miss a beat. The belt testing here is also done well in my opinion. The testing dates are announced well in advance and I've also seen them posted throughout the Dojo. As long as the students attend, participate and learn the different blocks, punches, etc then they should pass their tests each time. My son has moved up to the next belt each time he has a belt test. The new location is really cool too! They now have two floors which allows them to accommodate more classes as well. I really am glad that my son attends Okinawan Karate Dojo! I'm lookong forward to him earning his black belt here one day.

Although the kids were not able to get to the pool this year, the camp was able to make up for the temporary change. The price was reasonable and manageable. The program included valuable karate lessons taught by certified instructors. This has always been a great service. The diversity of the program has always been reflective of the county. Overall, the Okinawa Dojo summer camp program met and exceeded expectations by providing my little family member with a fun, healthy and safe environment.

I sent my 4 year old son to this establishment for Summer Camp starting in June 2019. He was born…read morein January 2015, so he will not be 5 until next year. Before registering I had a phone conversation with one of the staff members. I specifically asked if they were sure that they accept preschool age children for camp. He reassured me that they have in the past. I explained that my son was in preschool at a center but would start pre-k at a private school in the Fall and was told that was fine. I visited the place twice without my son to obtain paperwork and to drop off the paperwork and immunization records and still was told that all was well. His age and school information was included in writing as requested on their forms. Fast forward to my son starting camp. The first week was fine and he seemed happy. I did not receive any complaints from the staff or my son. A couple of weeks later, my husband picked my son up and the female staff person asked about my son's academic abilities. She seemed surprised that a 4 year old child could not write numbers independently. That was strange to me as I assumed that staff working with children would receive some sort of training on developmentally appropriate activities. I chose not to make too much of the issue. The next week I received complaints about the need to redirect my son from approaching the deep end at the pool during a field trip and again about them taking his play time away because he was not writing his numbers. Any parent or individual properly trained to work with children would know that four year old children often require redirection. They also should be able to recognize numbers and letters but might not be writing independently yet. My son can write letters of the alphabet, his name, count to 100 and more but that was not enough for them. I was appalled at the fact that his play time was used as punishment since play is the most important form of learning for a child at that age. The straw that broke the camel's back was that a staff person called my son "stubborn". My family is not perfect but we definitely are not tolerant of name calling. We do not call our child names and would never allow anyone else to do so. US Martial Arts is not a bad place for elementary age kids but parents of preschoolers beware. I would NOT recommend sending your child under six years old to summer camp at this establishment. Expectations are unrealistic and trust me when I say you will notice a difference in your child. My happy go-lucky boy who has always been rated as above average and is very well liked by teachers was in tears when I reminded him on Sunday that he would go to camp on Monday. Needless to say, I pulled him out and made other arrangements for him to be in a loving environment with folks who understand how to work with children his age. I would have appreciated a denial when I inquired about signing him up for camp if they are inexperienced with his age group. I would have also appreciated feedback daily about his play time being revoked instead of finding out the way I did. When I called to inform them that he would not return, no questions were asked. That is less than ideal customer service since I have already spent almost $1,000 with them. All is well as the happiness of my child is all that matters.
