For being so closely located to Euston, King's Cross, and The British Library, it was surprisingly quiet. We got a small assortment of dishes to split between 3, and everything was very tasty. The lamb and mint pie was delicious, and in a nicely flaky crust. The other small plates added nice additional complementary bites. Would say my next favorite was the chicken and leek croquettes, followed by the heritage tomatoes on sourdough, pork sausage bites, and beets. All nicely washed down with a lager. Portions on the smaller side, which is good when looking for a lighter meal before the train.

We ordered at the bar and then sat down to enjoy the ambiance and food. Good, friendly service. Not super speedy, but we were not in a hurry so it was totally fine for us. My only suggestion would be for travelers/non-locals: Perhaps make it more clear as to how/what to do to order food? We walked in and didn't see any signs about waiting to be seated or if we should seat ourselves and wait for service. Other than his minor thing, everything was fantastic. Highly recommend.

After 3p, this pub is for drinking only. From what I could discern, the pub caters primarily to locals, I.e. I didn't see many tourists. So - if you want food, come before 3p BUT if you're looking for a great pub for drinks, this would be a great option.

Don't know much about that but people I know who drink beer go there and are happy with their options. Haven't spent much time inside, mostly like the tables lining the outside of the building. Somehow there's always a half open table you can weasel your whole group into or an open table, no weaseling necessary. But at the same time it's always busy because PEOPLE LOVE IT HERE. BECAUSE ITS GREAT. The bathroom has a nice little sign in it that's a poem and then at the end there's a surprise. Like the st Ives riddle if you're familiar. Go here!

I got the bangers and mash while by wife got the cottage pie. I think I got the better meal as the sausages were really tasty and the whole grain mustard in the potatoes was a great way to elevate the potatoes. Her cottage pie was fine but didn't have a ton of flavor. Food came out surprisingly quickly, but we also had an order of chips which was crazy slow to come out of the kitchen. The chips were quite good but we'd both finished our entire meals and most of our beers by the time we got them. Beer options were solid, some good German choices. Beer was cheap too.

This place is not trying to play up on an image like many of the bars in this areas and sticks instead to the important business of being a damn fine pub. Being quite small there is a naturally cosy feel to the place and this is complimented by the decor wuth lots of wood panelling and comfy seats. The bar has a great selection of draft and bottled beers and, for the summer months, there is an excellent beer garden. I've yet to try the food but they do serve traditional pub grub between 12 and 5 Tuesday through Sunday. With a great atmosphere, warm and friendly bar staff and an excellent range of drinks, The Carpenters Arms is a brilliant place for a relaxing evening or a great stop-in after a hard days shop.

Service was fast and friendly, and it's a buzzing, busy place on a weekday evening after work. However, it's going on my list for next time I'm in the area.

WHOA. Sunday Sunday…read moreSUNDAY! I love Sunday Roast so much, I once made it for the premiere of The Walking Dead before. (A nod to its cast.) But mine wasn't NEARLY as good as Royal Oak's. Wait 'til you see the pics -- like a spread from Saveur. We were really hungry when we arrived. Getting through the crowded Flower Market was a workout in itself! We headed upstairs to a welcoming, daylight-bright dining room. My guy and I started with the asparagus risotto which turned out to be one of the BEST risottos I've ever had. No freaking joke. The al dente bite of the arborio rice, the creaminess, cheesiness, seasoning, and still-firm asparagus... I'm telling you. This is one of the best. (Our friends had the fried calamari which they enjoyed.) They each ordered one pork and one beef roast, while we ordered the chicken roast (serves 2 - 3.) And I don't want to brag or anything, but I think we hit on the winner winner chic.... Our server was super sweet. When we found out that only the beef roast dinner comes with Yorkshire pudding (I'm pretty sure we all gasped at that) she said that she would bring some puddings on the side for us. (Which were fabulous. I forgot to get a pic of them.) Let's get down to brass tacks now. The tender moist chicken roast was crowned by gently roasted carrots, flawless savory chard, fried potatoes - with a side of thin brown gravy. There were also three meatballs (?) that were eagerly eaten up by the table. Wow, I can STILL taste it. Drinks, plus risotto, calamaris, and the roast dinners came to about £160, which I thought was a great deal. One request, Royal Oak: Could you pretty please update your contact information so people can confirm reservations?
