Ordered online from Rising Sun on New Year's Day for a $120 order. The website quoted 45 minutes to an hour for delivery. After an hour, no food. I called and was told "it's already in the driver's car and should be there within 30 minutes." Thirty minutes later, still nothing. I called again and was told the exact same thing, then suddenly it became "the website quoted the wrong delivery times" and it would be another 30 minutes. At that point we felt stuck, ordering elsewhere would have taken even longer, so we waited. After two full hours, I called again. The manager got on the phone, told me it would be another 30 minutes, and offered a $50 credit for the inconvenience. Thirty more minutes passed. Now we're at 2.5 hours, still no food, and they couldn't tell me when or if it would arrive. We finally cancelled the order and ordered pizza instead. Twelve days later, I called to try to use the promised credit and was told that because we cancelled the order, the credit no longer applied. Apparently waiting over two and a half hours while being repeatedly told the driver was "on the way" doesn't count if you eventually give up. For the record, the driver clearly never had the food and was not on the way for at least an hour and a half of those calls. We live five minutes from the restaurant. This wasn't a delay, it was dishonesty and terrible customer service. We were strung along with false updates and empty promises until we finally cancelled. We will never order from Rising Sun again. Mo's Chinese food is way better anyway. We only chose Rising Sun because their site showed a shorter wait time, joke's on us. Posting this so others know exactly what to expect. read more

Ordered the House Brown fried rice. Wow was it good. Brown rice with beef/chicken/shrimp. Also the Beef chow mein and egg rolls. Beef chow mein is one of the best I've had. I order mine minus carrots because I don't like the sweetness they add to the dish. Egg rolls I'm not a big fan of. This time although they were hot the wrapper was tough and hard to chew. As a frequent customer of the Mokena location I decided to take a look at the New Lenox location. It was for carry out dinner. While eat in was closed there seems to be steady flow of people picking up orders. Our food was correct and well packed. The portion size was just right and food was hot. I don't get out to New Lenox that often, but those times I do, I usually pick up some food from Rising Sun. First of all, their egg rolls are fantastic. They make them in-house and they are the best egg rolls I have ever had - uch thicker than your typical egg roll with a deep, fried wrapper. Another of my favorites is the wonton soup. The broth has a nice flavor. In addition to the wonton stuffed with ground pork, there are strips of pork and vegetables floating in the broth. I am also a big fan of the pot stickers. They are bigger than your standard pot sticker and the outside is thicker, making a much more substantial dumpling. The entrees are pretty standard Chinese fare, but I have always enjoyed whatever I ordered. read more

A beautiful upscale Cantonese dining experience at far south suburban prices. I'm not sure if it's a suburban of Joliet or Chicago, but it's well worth the drive. Ivan greeted me promptly and provided excellent service for the whole meal. The egg drop soup is thicker, richer and tastier than most. Followed by an egg roll that needed nothing more than their extra spicy mustard. The Shanghai Lo Mein came loaded with tender slices of beef, pearly onions, red and green bell peppers in such a large lunch portion I can only imagine how much bigger the dinner version is. read more

Rising Sun is your average suburban strip mall Chinese restaurant. What sets apart from the others is their customer service. Shortly after sitting down and looking over a menu a hear a customer ask the waiter for a to go box for his left over food. The waiter yelled at the customer and demanded he pay $0.70 per box. I ordered a kung pao chicken lunch special and asked to change the included cup of egg drop soup for a bowl of hot sour soup. The waiter did told me their would be a $1 substitution fee and $1 upgrade to bowl fee. The soup was good he best thing I ate in the restaurant, it was spicy and flavorful. The kung pao chicken was different from what I am used to. It came with a very sticky tangy sauce that I didnt care for. When it came time to pay the bill I noticed a $1 fee attached for the soup substitution then a $3.75 charge for a cup of hot and sour soup. When I brought this to the attention of the waiter, he yelled at me and told me this is what we agreed upon when I placed the order. It was soo embarrassing, everyone went silent in the restaurant and looked over at me. I just paid the bill and left... I won't be back. read more

This is hands down the best Chinese food in 25 mile radius. Only better option would be Chinatown in chicago. The egg rolls are crunchy and stuffed with deliciousness. We placed our to go order at 6:15. We were told our order would be ready for pick up in 30 minutes so we were there but sadly no order. So we waited and we waited and then we waited some more. I have a love-hate relationship with Rising Sun. I love their food - quite frankly, the egg rolls are like crack. I find myself craving them at least once a week. I've also been really impressed with the Cantonese style vegetable chow mein (don't order the lunch special chow mein, though - it comes with those crispy noodles out of a bag instead of the pan-friend crispy noodles, which come with the chow mein off the regular menu). The egg foo young is also amazing, if a little heavy on the sauce (it usually leaks out of the side of the container). They recently switched the recipe for their vegetable egg rolls and they're not nearly as good as they used to be. It's probably rare to give a specific shout-out to sweet and sour sauce, but this place deserves it. It's amazing - it's slightly sweet like marmalade and so good I've even dipped fortune cookies in it. The "hate" end of the equation is with their customer service. I usually order takeout, and the woman who typically answers the phone has very broken English and is quite rude. They also seem to change their minds on a weekly basis about how much things cost. For example, I've ordered the #2 lunch special (egg foo young) several times. Sometimes I'm charged $1 more to make it vegetable instead of pork, sometimes I'm not (for the record, the menu just says egg foo young - it doesn't specify that it's pork, which I've pointed out). I've also had trouble with them getting my orders right. One time my vegetable egg foo young arrived with pork instead and fried rice instead of the white rice I requested, which I didn't notice until I had gotten my food back to the office. I've gotten in the habit of asking them to repeat my order back to me, which seems to help. What's funny is that there's a younger guy there who speaks excellent English and is incredibly friendly. After giving a few other places a fair chance, Rising Sun's New Lenox location is our first choice for Chinese take-out/delivery. The food is consistently fresh, delicious, and generously-portioned. We appreciate that Rising Sun uses good quality meat; none of that gristly-rubbery-nasty textured beef we've experienced elsewhere. Some of our family's favorite items from their vast menu are: egg rolls, chicken fried rice, Mongolian beef, pork Chop Suey, and pan-fried noodles (try subbing them for rice with one of your entrees for a change of pace). Called in an order and when I got home it was chicken and broccoli instead of beef and broccoli. No one from my family will eat this but we have had no issues in the past so assumed I would just call and let them know the error and they would credit me in the future. Instead, I was told that I ordered chicken and broccoli and that they would not credit anything. I could drive 15 minutes back to them and they would exchange it. I asked to speak to a manager and was told there is only a manager on Monday, that I could try back then. Chicken and broccoli is still sitting uneaten, sad they can't solve a simple problem. I stopped in the Rising Sun w/o reading the reviews posted previously - thank goodness. It was early on a Friday evening and not alot of customers at that time, however, I found the service to be great. No sooner had I been seated than my waitress appeared with a great pot of tea that lasted the whole meal. I chose the $11 daily special which was the Kung Po Delight. This came with an egg roll that was as good as previous reviewers found. For the soup I had a choice of egg drop or beef vegetable, on the recommendation of the waitress I went with the beef vegetable - this was an unexpected delight. It was delicious with stock that was close to a sweet sour cabbage that I enjoy. Finally the Kung Po was great also. The sauce was very good (I chose medium heat). The chicken, shrimp and pork were all cooked properly and with the mushrooms and celery had a great taste. The manager sat with me awhile and everyone was great. I wish I lived closer to the Rising Sun but highly recommend it. read more

We order the dinner for two the sweet-and-sour pork was inedible we had to throw it out..the pork was so dry you could barely bite into it. the chop Suey and the pork fried rice were OK. the eggrolls were burnt and dry the sesame chicken was greasy. Yes, Rising Sun you get your fourth star back from this reviewer. There were no burnt dishes this year! Even though the service was a tad slow, the place was jam packed. And I will say the price is still right at around $18 dollars a person, on average. We had another traditional, big New Year's eve dinner gathering lasting close to three hours. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the Egg Rolls, Pot Stickers, Crab Rangoon and Teriyaki Beef (some of the best around I must admit) to start our meal. Then for our main course dishes we all enjoyed, the Mongolian Beef, Beef and Broccoli, Shrimp and Cashews, Egg Fu Young and Sweet and Sour Chicken. Food is ok. I have never been treated so terribly. The waiter was so ignorant! I asked to have steamed noodles and broccoli for my son, who doesn't like all the sauces. He's 6. He said no! What? I said you cannot make plain noodles and plain broccoli? He finally said ok. They charged me 5.95 for the broccoli side and 4.95 for the noodles. Which whatever, I get it's a special order. Betrayed after 20 years of sweet and sour chicken. That's how long I've been getting Rising Sun's most glorious dinner (to me) since I was 16 from the Mokena location. So I'm well versed in this dinner. Now, I've had a handful of bad plates- grizzly or dry chicken mostly. But very rare, I get it, it happens. But last night after a year of missing the golden goodness (wife can't do chinese) looking forward to one of my favorite comfort, coma inducing meals, I couldn't even finish my plate. Thats a first! Ever! The first thing I noticed was how DARK the sweet and sour mix was with the veggies and pineapple. Okay, weird, whatever, give it a shot... I swear they cut it with soy sauce! It was complete salty garbage!!! I could not believe it. I always pour it on the rice and pan fried noodles because its so good, NOPE. Terrible. Now, I've -never- had problems with Mokena, but this is it for NL. On a previous dine in shortly after they opened they also cut the egg drop soup with water. One of my favorite thick soups of their's just flavorless water... okay, one off thing, but because of that I'm not surprised really they would cut the ss. That said, the fried rice and egg roll were fine. They load you up huge with chicken on carryout, and they are nice... But I laid down $29, give me fresh sweet and sour. Such a huge disappointment. Maybe that's how they make it now? Maybe they thought because I was carry out they could pass it off? Whatever the case it was awful! One of my favorite plates ruined. My new neighbor said this is the best Chinese in town, and if that's the case, then I'm bummed. The boyfriend got beef with gravy, which he enjoyed, but I was disappointed in mine (shrimp with broccoli) because they used canned mushrooms in it. I love mushrooms, but canned shrooms give the whole dish a weird, tinny flavor. Such a bummer. Also, the crab rangoons have onion, which dominates the delicate flavor of the rangoon. I usually don't do this but This experience was a joke....So last night (Mother's Day) I ordered Chinese food from Rising Sun in New Lenox. I called and was told they would call me back to take my order which I thought was weird? Anyway about 5 minutes went by and they called me back, I asked them if they were delivering they said yes but the wait was long possibly 2 hours I called at 6pm so I said that's ok and placed my order. They again confirmed the wait could be up to two hours. I told him that's fine we will wait and make sure the driver has change for $100 bill he said fine. It's a little after 8 PM and my wife says where's our food I said well they said it would take a while let's just hold off for a little bit we're watching a movie and before you know it it's after 9 o'clock Still no food and my wife says I think you should call as I got to make the call I get a phone call from them at 9:20pm asking me when I'm coming to pick my food up it's been there since 6:30pm lol I said really you guys were supposed to be delivering it. They also sounded very confused so I was extremely mad and said well let me come pick it up they said OK.... Then I thought a minute and said well it's been sitting there for three hours it's probably ice cold they said yes I said well forget it just cancel my order they said thank you and hung up the phone mind you I order here all the time do you think they would've try to compensate me somehow for wasting my time so needless to say we didn't eat anything for dinner yesterday and it was Mother's Day dinner it's what my wife wanted. Mongolian beef and curries are my favorite here. Just about everything I've gotten here has been great actually. I eat here once a month or so and really like that they have a separate pick up area so i don't feel like I'm in the way while waiting for to go orders. read more

TERRIBLE!!!! Let me be clear, I love Chinese food. It's true that good Chinese food is tough to come by. This is NOT good Chinese food. We tried this restaurant once when it first opened, and it was extremely bland. Since we wanted to keep with our day after New Year's tradition (our usual place Dragon Palace was closed), we decided to give Rising Sun another shot. What a huge letdown once again. We ordered the Beef Lo Mein, Mongolian Beef, and Pork Fried Rice. The fried rice looked appetizing, but was extremely bland. Mongolian Beef was maybe 1-2 stars out of 5. Beef Lo Mein was negative 5 stars..................absolutely zero taste. I don't know how this place stays in business. Avoid it. read more

I honestly have no idea what they were actually made of, and how they achieved that unnatural color. Nobody in my party of 7 ate them. Most of the food was frankly gross.
