She told us about the best sellers and food pairings. I found two that I really enjoyed. The lady was very helpful and even gave us a tip on how to tell if it's real wine. A special collection from the 1930's Alabama state fair stored for 70 years was displayed during my visit. The museum is owned and operated in conjunction with Auburn University. If you have and hour or so I would recommend a tour. Although the museum closes in the late afternoon its lighting in the evening is spectacular.

The small size works to its advantage. Sometimes extremely massive museums can be overwhelming. Since the Smith Museum isn't that large, you can see it all in a reasonable timeframe. Just a heads up that the museum is often closed during school breaks and holidays. So check the website or call before you head over if it's during those times. But all is not lost if the museum isn't open; you can stroll around the property which includes fountains, gardens, and outdoor art. The current exhibit outside is called Out of the Box, and it is really cool. Highly recommended and Instagram-able. The little gift shop is worth a quick peek. There is lots of parking. Well, it's closed now for the season but keep this in mind for next year. This family-owned and family-friendly farm is a quick drive from town. Besides families, it also seems popular with college students and couples. Parking is easy and admission is $2 which isn't bad for what you get: access to several pumpkin patches, the corn maze, sunflower picking, farm animal viewing/petting, tractor rides, and amusements for kiddies including a game where you see who can pump water the fastest to float a rubber duckie down a slide. Yes, I had too much fun playing this duck race. I saw hot dogs and lemonade for sale, but nothing pumpkin-related such as pie. I think an opportunity is being missed! Local honey is available for purchase too which is cool. The pumpkins aren't cheap, but then again, you're paying for an experience. I recommend bringing your own shears if you have them since the patch might be all out. The big pumpkins are already detached from the vines but if you want a smaller one, you'll have to snip it yourself. Also, it sounds like Farmer in the Dell will be offering pre-cut Christmas trees during the holidays and will be having peaches next year, so it's not just squashes.
