We had a team outing after a meeting today and I have to be honest, I had no idea what to expect. It has been a long time since I've shot an arrow. The process was simple since we had lined up our group and paid ahead of time. We had Coach Payton (I hope I spelled it correctly). He was extremely informative and explained what we were going to do for our two hours there. We all had a blast and he was extremely patient with us all. A group of friends and I were bored on a Saturday afternoon, and last minute decided to find something to do! We found Rising Phoenix Archery on Google and gave them a call beforehand just in case they were slammed. Their indoor Open Range was very clean, spacious and had about 19 lanes! On the other side, there seemed to be a family with kids having a private practice session - very family friendly here. Since it was our first time doing archery, we were given a little introduction to how to handle the bow and the range's rules. The staff were super friendly and helpful. We had a lot of fun and got to take some fun pictures too! Group Friendly - YES. Plenty of space for a group. Family Friendly - YES. We saw plenty of parents with their children learning archery there. Date Friendly - YES. Very cute date idea. Price - VERY affordable. Rentals are free and you are only paying for time there if you are doing open range. They even have punch cards for frequent goers. Difficulty - Easy. As a beginner, I had no issues for my first archery session. Food - Drinks and Snacks available for purchase here. Seats available for anyone tagging along but not joining in on the archery fun. Social Distancing - Our group was able to spaced out enough from other groups, so it wasn't an issue. read more

My son really loves archery. We had him enrolled at a local outdoor range, but now that the colder weather is rearing its ugly head, we had to find a place that would allow him to shoot but also allow us to stay toasty warm. Rising Phoenix archery is a great place that achieves both of these things. This indoor range has open shooting times available so that you can come check it out. I brought my son for open shoot to start with and we really enjoyed our time here. My son was able to choose from a recurve or a compound bow. He learned initially on the compound bow, so he switched over to the recurve. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming during our first visit. After a single session at the range, my wife and I decided to sign our son up for the 5-week beginner course. The coaching was top notch and the classes focused mainly on technique and form. I liked the fact that the students were not measured on accuracy. The first 4 weeks consisted of the students shooting down range at empty canvas without targets. My son liked this approach too as he was able to focus primarily on his form and technique without being distracted by scoring. I'd highly recommend Rising Phoenix Archery. This place accommodates all skill levels. I'd also like to mention that the environment is very welcoming and clean. Neither my son or I felt intimidated by anything here. Nice place, and friendly staff. Stopped by for their open range (Sat and Sundays) and was able to try out a recurve bow (I shoot a compound). Had a lot of fun, and the staff there is super helpful with newbies. I watched one girl come in who had never shot a bow, but by the end of her hour, she was hitting the target - one of the guys there coached her and he was really cool and fun about it. It was nice to see, and that made me decide that I am going to take formal lessons there. If you've never tried archery, this is the place. And you don't have to own a bow - they have all the equipment you need to give archery a shot. Pun intended ;) read more

I decided to take the women's only adult class with Marla, as I figured that would be a good place for me to keep my anxiety low. I am so glad I did. Marla, and the assistant instructor Rachel, are absolute gems. They clearly love archery, and they are phenomenal at teaching it. Every so often another instructor, Brian, will come over and offer some assistance too, and he's amazing as well The kids in the youth class are clearly taught range safety, and they take it seriously. They also clearly enjoy their instructors as well, which is something that is so important in youth coaching. ( I am a youth coach in another sport.) The range itself is really well situated, and they have a small pro-shop as well. If they can't do something for you, they will send you to the right place to get it done. If you're looking for a place to get started (or to get back into it in my case) this would be the place to go. read more

Updated to say that the issue of refund has been resolved. I still will not encourage patrons to this business for the owners refusal to understand the flaws in the system he claims they have set up with appointments or claiming that the range is not open to public at certain times without it being posted at all on the doors. Since we were not the only "public" that entered the building at the time of issue. There has to be change in the disappointing ego of this owner to make it a better environment. He is insistent that appointments have to be made however he himself failed over months of opportunity via email, to explain the system he claims is in place. It's evident in my email on March 11th that I mentioned the coach was unavailable to devote to my project of picking up the items the owner told me to come in to pick up via phone. The owner did not respond to this email- he did not explain at any point that appointments are supposedly needed to pick up and to order items. It was never the case. The coach was perfectly available to run my card. To ruin an entire experience over non communication is irresponsible to current and potential clientele and to his staff. I'm disappointed that this owner chooses to ruin a wonderful sport by poor business choices, terrible communication, an over inflated ego and lack of customer service. read more

We've been here a few times for open range and my son is just finished the beginner class and is starting the intermediate session. My only con is that I wish there were more open range hours. Other than that, everything about this place has been awesome. The coaches are incredible (coach Tim is The Man!)- friendly, encouraging, knowledgeable, focused on safety and the fun of the sport- which is exactly what I was looking for. They talk about things like good form and the importance of warming up - all towards the goal of instilling a life long love of the sport. They have everything you need to get you going walking in off the street (they advise WAITING to buy a bow so the archer has a better idea of what they want). Great sport, great business! My daughter has been attending classes for over a year and it has been a wonderful experience. First, the owner Brandon is a fine man. He easily engages with archers of all ages. Second, his coaches are all really great people our favorites being Brian and Marla. Our daughter enjoys learning from them each week and really taken to the sport. We look forward to not only the classes but also going for open range. My daughter visits regularly to not only work on her craft, but also just to have fun. We are also very happy that Rising Phoenix also carries much of the equipment that we use and at very competitive prices. One of the more interesting experiences that my daughter has enjoyed, was learning from Brandon, on how to assemble new arrows. From cutting them to length to gluing the pieces on (tips, vanes, knocks). Not only is that cool to learn but also save a few bucks..instead of paying for them to be made. read more

This place is amazing, for never having shot a bow and arrow, I can say from the orientation that you're given at the start, it's a lot to remember but it's awesome!!! My three children have been taking weekly archery lessons here for over two years. Watching them learn and grow with the sport has been a lot of fun. Coach Bryan and Coach Marla are great. Head Coach Brandon runs a clean, safe and professional range. My daughter and I had so much fun here! With some time to kill between our hotel checkout & our flight out of DTW, I searched Groupon for something fun for us to do together. Got a great deal for a 2 hour free range session. They seem to have really good prices even without the Groupon. The sessions include free equipment & instructions. We practiced a few rounds then put up our targets. After about an hour, we were given score cards to compete against each other. Towards the end of our session, they put a balloon in the center of our targets just to add a little more fun! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone interested in trying something new or even an experienced archer. I noticed that they have great membership rates as well. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped in here on a whim one afternoon because I've been interested in learning how to shoot a bow. I love that they have open range time for the public. We stood around waiting for a bit until we were finally approached by one of the workers. I cannot remember her name, but she was wonderful because this was literally my first time ever learning anything about a bow. She gave a very detailed explanation of the different types of bows, how to hold them, how to shoot, and the importance of safety while shooting. When you go onto the range you have to follow a command of whistles (approaching the line, loading your bow, going to retrieve them...). I loved the organizational part of this and they're very thorough so that nobody gets injured. I loved coming here and I know that I will definitely be coming back! My partner and I came to Rising Phoenix today, excited to break in our new bows and shoot at a range for our first time, rather than at home. They have a wide range of bows and arrows beautifully displayed on the wall to purchase and try out. When we met with the gentleman in charge, he spoke to us in a condescending tone at a high volume for the duration of our visit. He immediately criticized the bows we brought with us, saying they wouldn't be suitable for even the kids here (gesturing to the children shooting arrows in the adjacent room, speaking so loudly everyone in the place could hear). After said gentleman had been talking at us for several minutes about our insufficient bows and how we'd been shooting incorrectly (without ever hearing us talk about our shooting experience), my partner and I felt belittled and turned off from the experience entirely. Consequently we decided to leave before starting. We were our friendly selves and had been very excited to find a nice place to shoot our bows and arrows. Rising Phoenix would be an excellent spot if the staff treat potential customers with mutual respect. Rising Phoenix is an excellent facility with knowledgeable coaches and a family friendly environment. We started with the club during a summer camp. (Highly recommend). We loved that you didn't have to invest in equipment right away. Now that we've been a part of the club for about 7 months we only enjoy it more.
