Some nursing homes were clean, others were dirty and had a pervasive stench. Before you select a facility for your loved one you MUST visit several. DON'T visit just one. You need to make comparisons. You want the best so visit at least 4 or 5 nursing homes. Check their reviews online. The staff might clue you in. If they do and they suggest that you look elsewhere DON'T rat them out as they may be doing you a BIG favor and they need their job! Good luck!

She was very short with me, as I had a lot of questions. She told me I had to come in for a visit to "truly learn about the facility". I agreed reluctantly as I needed to find an establishment for someone I hold near and dear. The grounds appeared to be well maintained. There were a few residents sitting outside the entrance. Most of them seemed like they didn't know what was going on. What disturbed me is that no one was monitoring them. There might have been cameras outside, but in my opinion, that's insufficient. What if someone had a problem or worse yet, what if someone had a medical emergency? I know I'm speculating, but it gave me an uneasy feeling. This is all before entering the facility. Upon entering, I was checked in. The young man at the front desk seemed annoyed that he had to do his job. The lady that conducted the tour was polite, but she seemed completely disinterested. She was not able to answer most of my questions. She said someone from a different department would contact me, which never happened. We passed by a lot of rooms that looked very dirty from merely glancing in as I walked by. Linens were strewn about the rooms and there were a lot of carts with dirty food trays and plates on them. A lot of the residents were sitting in the hallways or wheeling themselves around. Patients were crying in the rooms and being ignored. The nurses were at their stations laughing loudly and ignoring their responsibilities. At this point I saw enough. Needless to see, I did not opt for this establishment. Also, if you or your loved one needs wound care they will not accept admittance. This was an overall bad experience. Go elsewhere.

She started recently attending this program almost 2 months ago after leaving rehab. She attends 5 days a week and will always share stories with me every day of what she's done and what she enjoyed. It brings me great comfort to know that she is in a safe, caring, supportive, & engaging environment when I'm at work. I am always communicating with the staff about her schedule, because of appointments or if something is going on with my mom. All the staff are really pleasant and helpful in so many ways. She is starting to make friends which is great for the social butterfly that she is. I did look at other social model day programs and there is nothing else that came close to a quality that the town of Huntington adult daycare program provides. The hours of operation are also amazing. As many places do not start until at least 9 AM. However, with my work schedule that is not doable so I'm very appreciative that they start at 8 AM and they end by 4pm. I am really happy that she is in such a great environment and gets to do things that she may not be able to do otherwise. I'm looking forward to her celebrating her 90th birthday with her new friends.
