They offer other classes for dance and physical fitness, such as Flex Appeal (flexibility) and At The Barre (adult beginner ballet). They allow drop-in's for certain classes that are affordable, in case you want to try a class that's not pole dancing and don't want to commit to buying a whole class session up front. They also offer a virtual "punch card" online so you can try different classes. There's no drama here: the students and instructors are women aged 18 and up. All shapes, sizes, and fitness levels come here. No one is too big or too old. The classes are small and the instructors can decrease or increase the challenge of the class for your own personal needs. I like that I am encouraged to strive to be better but am not pressured to keep up with the girl next to me. Everyone's goals, needs, and abilities are different.

Michelle was very patient with our group, and helped us maneuver around the unknown of aerial fitness. The studio is split in two: one side for aerial fitness, and the other for poles (both are offered in 8 week packages). The studio also hosts various other classes such as women's self defense and hula hooping. The workout was definitely challenging, but we all had so much fun! I highly recommend this studio for anyone interested in trying aerial fitness or pole classes!

I initially wanted to sign up for an aerial yoga class, but was prompted to take a "beginner" pole…read moreclass instead because it started sooner. It turned out the class was a Beginner II rather than an intro, and the instructor was more of a demonstrator than a teacher. Despite struggling, I still enjoyed the class enough to sign up for a second session. That session was oversold, as the only pole available had a huge floor flaw that was TAPED over. Over the course of the class, the tape and adhesive became tackier and eventually ruined the shoes I was wearing for the first time. This resulted in my shoes literally sticking to the floor, so I couldn't complete a move and ended up painfully smashing my knees against the edge of the pole base, resulting in bruises on both. Despite being oversold and unsafe, the studio refuses to refund my session fee. I had two credits from signing up for the first session, and I asked for a refund after the 2nd class of the 2nd session. I should have my entire fee refunded, but they took two weeks to write me back and let me know that because the semi-present instructor didn't know I was in pain, they are going to KEEP MY MONEY?!?! The instructor saw me trying to remove the tape and goo from my shoes, but they are literally going to try to weasel out of being accountable with this. They should refund me for my session, replace my shoes, and acknowledge that their studio is UNSAFE, their classes are oversold, and their practices are shady. Really disgusted by the entire experience, it's a shameful way to run a business, and the lack of concern and support is negligent and irresponsible.

The instructors make an effort to connect with you on a personal level and I have become close to many of them. They really care about technique here and, as I have visited other studios, I have noticed that DMA does a really spectacular job. Not only this, but they are really well-rounded. You can get a quality education in ballet, jazz, modern, musical theater, tap, and hip hop with teachers that are great in their field. They are home to even some professionally-affiliated companies like the Chicago Repertory Ballet Youth Ensemble which I was a part of for 2 years, and the Trifecta Youth Ensemble which I have been a part of for a while. No matter what style you're interested in, they have something for you. They have a musical theater program that brings in agents and gives help with self taps from working actors, they have a ballet conservatory, they have hip hop companies, a tap company, jazz company, and a modern company, as well as a mini Glenbrook South poms "prep" company and an Edgebrook All-Stars poms "prep" company. If you just want to take classes with no companies, they have that, too. Don't be fooled, just because they have many different styles doesn't mean they are lesser quality, because DMA puts care into every style they have. As a mainly ballet-lover, I am able to do a variation (dance) en pointe as well as be in the modern company. It's great because even though I did not like ballet as a kid, I grew to love it in the classes I took and was able to decide to take more of them because of the opportunities here. I was even able to go to the YAGP National FInals in Tampa because of the fantastic ballet company. Needless to say, please consider DMA. I am close to being a senior in high school and will cherish the time I had here. I really feel well-prepared as a dancer and a person because of my time here. They really instill in you that a dancer is worth more than their body, the titles they won, or what style they do. To us, dance is an art form and a sport. I have been taking my son to Dreams Gymnastics for several sessions for their parent and tots…read moreclass. We couldn't be happier. Jackie is his instructor who clearly has so much passion for the development of the kids in the class, not to mention how she teaches the parents in the class how to work with their children, telling us what to do both in class and what we can do at home, to develop their motor skills. The gym itself is wonderful. It's clear that they just renovated (see pictures). The equipment and mats are in perfect condition. The parent and tots class is so great. We start in a small gym which is nice for the little ones to get acclimated. Then we get to bring our kiddos into one of their big gyms (we alternate each week). My sons' favorite part is the foam pit. The foam blocks seem to be new. I don't even mind jumping in myself to play with my son. I'm happy that I started my son so young at this gym and am excited to watch him grow and develop in their classes for older kids.

The staff is so welcoming and watching the students and teachers dance was so touching. Fred Astaire Long Grove shares true love and passion for the art of dance. The students eyes were shining as they were learning new skill and the teachers were very encouraging. Walking into this studio makes you feel welcomed, comfortable and eliminates any of your insecurities. No one is a great dancers right of the bat, but everyone has a chance to learn to become one. There is no reason why you can't be a great dancer, performer, all you need is dedication, perseverance and love for this art. Fred Astaire Long Grove staff will provide you with the rest. It is a great honor to train under the guidance and patience (and occasional good-natured laughter)…read moreof Grandmaster Tae, the Masters and Assistant Masters at W Kim Tae Kwon Do in Lake Zurich, the Black Belts with whom we train, and my fellow students. I did not join W Kim TKD in LZ as a member in search of "a workout", though through my first eight weeks of training I've certainly discovered and felt muscles I did not know I had. To train with any instructor at W Kim TKD LZ is to feel at some point being truly "pushed", in ways I'd imagine nearly anyone seeking "a workout" would desire. I write this even having trained for and completed five marathons. I am new in my journey toward studying any martial art, currently a High White Belt in Tae Kwon Do. New as I am, even in my upper-40's, and for as much as I stumble along the way, I have no desire to stop training. I chose to pursue study of Tae Kwon Do out of the desire to inspire my 8 year-old son to finish what he started in his own training. About a year ago, when, as a Green Belt in his training, my son grew resistant to the increasing challenges presented to him, I chose to commit to my son that I would personally join him in his training en route to earning a Black Belt.. once he had advanced past Green Belt himself. True to the spirit of this school, my son persevered, and eventually earned his Purple Belt in a Belt Promotion that put his skills and training to the test. And so began our journey together. It is through the spirit of focus, concentration, and tenacity dwelling at the heart of all that happens in every lesson within the school at W Kim TKD Lake Zurich that my son and I have each found a unique but potent way to connect with each other, in participating individually in an experience that undeniably moves each of us beyond our perceived limits. We train in separate rooms, but we know the other is working hard, each in our own pursuit of becoming a better person. The mutual feeling of success after each lesson for each of us is undeniable, and makes for some very enjoyable conversation and celebration together on the ride home.. and for many hours to follow. More importantly, though, the shared experiences we have together at this school have deepened our mutual connection as father and son. These are truly priceless memories that are being formed. If all that I just wrote here still leaves anyone unconvinced, you can freely get a sense of what to expect at W Kim TKD in Lake Zurich simply by looking through the windows of its main training studio, toward its southernmost walls. Take in the Student Creed, the Tenets and Oaths of Taekwondo, and the Children Home Rules. Then, decide for yourself whether what you see written there would be of value to you and/or your children. I know that for me, and for what is plainly viewable as a true, vibrant community amongst the students and teachers, what I saw on that wall was worth pursuing. On a shopping trip to Trader Joe's in Lake Zurich, I had forgotten they opened a second location in the same strip mall. So, at around noon on a Saturday, I dropped in. Hoping to run into Master Tae Hyung Kim, I learned he had already left for the day. But, I met the lead instructor and observed for a while. I remember when they had one location in downtown Palatine that was great, but very "lived in". This new location is really nice. It's well lit, the gym is large, the instructors have microphones they wear so they can easily be heard. And, since many of their students are kids, they have a great seating area where parents can watch the classes. I'm really sorry that I missed Tae, but I did leave my number for him. For a couple of years I've said I would go back again. I need to get back in shape. One day, I will be back.
