Review of Rinaldi's Air conditioning
I don't recommend this company. I have paid them almost $1000 already over 3 appointments and they didn't fix the problem. Now they are quoting $3000+ to fix the system or more to replace my 4 year old system.
On July 1st I took off a day from work so I could have a weekday appointment. I asked the appointment was for regular service but made the note that in mid afternoon the temperature reading was 82 or 83 degrees even though I had set the AC to maintain 76 degrees.
The technician came for the service appointment, checked the system and charged me $169, and didn't add any freon. When I asked about the AC rising to 83 midday, I was told the AC has no issues, that I could have someone do an insulation evaluation done.
We left the next morning on a two week vacation returning on Friday, July 19th. While the AC was set at 76 degrees while we were away, we returned in the afternoon with the temperature display at 85 degrees. We called for an appointment for the next day (Saturday, July 21st) from 12n to 5pm in addition we asked for the heat function to be checked as it but wasn't working last winter (the fan runs but wasn't heating).
The tech comes on July 20th to find the condenser frozen and starts the defrost. When the condenser is defrosted, he added freon and told us the unit would need to be checked for leaks. He inspected the heat unit, but said he would have to come back on Monday (July 23rd) to check for leaks and to look further into the heat function. He said the office would reach out with the appointment and he charges us $761 for both the Saturday and Monday appointments. The tech mentioned that he was told we shut our AC off while we were away (false), to which she corrected him (we never shut the system off).
After the tech left on July 20th, the AC was cooling to the temperature setting of 76 degrees and every day since. I am not sure why the July 1st tech would say the AC was OK and recommend insulation.
On Monday, July 22nd midday, I hadn't heard from the office so I called. Krystal answered andsaid they had nothing on record for an appointment and there was no appointment available for that day. I made an appointment for Tuesday afternoon (which was moved up to Tuesday morning).
In my conversation with Krystal, I asked for the Manager and was told that person was unavailable, and I would get a call back. I never received a callback from a manager.
The Tuesday appointment came and the tech checked the system (supposedly for both the leak and the heater). The tech informed our house guest that to fix the leak it would be over $3000 and it makes more sense to change the entire system (system is only 4 years old). I was quoted $7000+/- to replace the system. Our house guest said it would be better if I spoke with the office about how we want to proceed.
On Wednesday July 24th I called because I hadn't received an invoice from the July 20th service or any documentation from the Tuesday appointment (July 23rd). The person there sent me the invoice and the estimate. I asked the person on the phone to have a Manager call me because I hadn't received a call back. I told her since they didn't fix my AC I said I believe they should be refunding me some money, especially since the first tech on July 1st misdiagnosed the issue.
The following day I was called by Krystal and was offered $112 back. I noted that $112 wasn't a line item on the invoice. She said it was the difference between a service call and a callback call (apparently I was overcharged). I was saying that I should get $169 back for the July 1st appointment. I was told that something must have happened between the July 1st appointment and the July 20th appointment. I noted that when the tech left on the 1st, the AC didn't drop below 83 during the day. After the tech left on the 20th, the temperature lowered to the 76 setting. I said it was my perception that the tech on the 1st missed something on that call.
Krystal told me that a Manager would not be calling back (busy) and that she was just relaying the message. She offered to have me speak to someone to replace the AC. I explained to her I wouldn't be using Rinaldi's in the future after this experience.
I have subsequently had another licensed company come to review the AC and was quoted $720 to fix the coils and the leak. I am not how $3000 can be considered a fair and reasonable price, when another commercial company fixed it for $720.
The optics to me are that the price was pushed up high enough by Rinaldi's to entice me to spend more money on a new system.
In the end I spent almost $1000 initially over 3 appointments with Rinaldi's without the issue being fixed. In the end it would be $850+ after getting the $112 back. I believe the issue should have been handled in 1 appointment on July 1st. read more
