I have never even heard anyone mention the Rim Trail, but as my friend and I were hiking the Nature Trail, we ran into it. This Rim Trail South hike is GORGEOUS, and everyone should do it.
There are multiple access points for the trail, as you can get to it via the Nature Trail/Rim Trail South Connector, Rim Trail North or a parking lot. The signage is very clear as well. The trail is a rolling single track with some switchbacks, but I found it to be fairly easy to moderate at points. There are lots of trees and wild flowers, and the views from the west of Snowmass are so amazing. We did the hike on a cloudy day, and it was perfect. It could get really hot otherwise, and we actually walked through the clouds with the rainy weather. Rim Trail South is 3.8 miles with about a 550 feet increase in elevation and then turns into Rim Trail North, but we decided to turn around at that point.
Dogs are welcome, and bikers are too. There was a lot of foot traffic at 8 AM on a cloudy/rainy Friday so I would imagine it gets very popular on a nice day.
This is a hike that is not to be missed!!! read more
