Schongau was a beautiful, peaceful little town. Although the servers did not speak English and the menus were only in German, my oldest son did fine ordering for us with his high school German lessons. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was exceptionally good. My youngest son ate wienerschnitzel EVERY DAY of vacation, but he swore through the rest of the week and still claims that the wienerschnitzel he had here at Gasthaus zum Lindauer was the best he had all week-long. Both of my teenage boys said they wanted to go back here to eat again, and that's high praise from two picky eaters. I try not to give out 5-star reviews so that when I do, they stand out as someplace truly exceptional. I give Gasthaus zum Lindauer 5-stars for the best lunch we had in our 8-day vacation.

Reminds me of the Marriott Aloft hotel rooms. The breakfast is good typical German food with soft boiled eggs, yogurt, muesli, bread, meat, cheese, juice, and coffee. For dinner, the restaurant doesn't open until 6. They have a bar. The food was good. I had the spring special of asparagus cream soup and lamb ragu over pasta. The downside is the restaurant doesn't take credit cards so bring cash.
