Schongau was a beautiful, peaceful little town. Although the servers did not speak English and the menus were only in German, my oldest son did fine ordering for us with his high school German lessons. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was exceptionally good. My youngest son ate wienerschnitzel EVERY DAY of vacation, but he swore through the rest of the week and still claims that the wienerschnitzel he had here at Gasthaus zum Lindauer was the best he had all week-long. Both of my teenage boys said they wanted to go back here to eat again, and that's high praise from two picky eaters. I try not to give out 5-star reviews so that when I do, they stand out as someplace truly exceptional. I give Gasthaus zum Lindauer 5-stars for the best lunch we had in our 8-day vacation.

Honestly I am so happy we stopped here because after all the zigzagged roads I definitely needed something in my stomach. Their fried donuts are absolutely amazing!! Never had one before, but was GREAT! My husband usually never eats spinach the way they presented it and ate everything on his plate! There's a church up the hill that was built by the Vatican and holds a figure of Jesus, which was said to have actually sobbed tears and was owned by a local farmer couple which built the little original house for the statue so people could see it
