I have heard he/she is a bully and brings their problems to work with them. What a shame for parents trying to seek help for their children.

My husband and I took a tour of the school and it seemed like there were a lot of activities and resources for the kids despite the building having an industrial feel and looking a bit run down. We decided to apply despite the hundreds of dollars in application fees just to review our paperwork. At the time, we did not realize most ABA places do not do that. They said the typical time from application to start date was usually a few weeks, but ours took 2 months because they had trouble certifying one of their providers with my insurance company. That was understandable, but it's what happened in the meantime that made me rethink the school. It was difficult to get anyone to answer the phone, and most of my messages were never returned. Messages I left with various people were never passed on to the right ones. Nobody knew what was going on and in some cases they didn't even know who to ask. All the while, my insurance company insisted the problem was on the school's end and that they were having consistent trouble getting in touch with them and that the school filed paperwork wrong three times. It gave me the impression of a school whose management is in chaos and disarray. Finally, after all that was sorted out and just days before my daughters were supposed to start, they suddenly sprung us with $5,000 in further application fees and said they required a 1-year contract. None of this had ever been mentioned in person, on the phone, or in the paperwork we signed at any point in the preceding two months. It raised a lot of red flags to be asked to spend a small fortune in unexpected hidden fees and be required to commit to a long-term contract before my girls had even started. Maybe the school is struggling financially and is desperate to extract as much money in fees as possible? I have no idea. I just know no other ABA place has such insanely high hidden fees. Because my kids never had a chance to get therapy here, I really can't speak to the quality of care. All I know is that getting quality care is much more difficult when management is very disorganized.

My daughter attended language immersion schools for 4 years (school taught 80-100% in a foreign…read morelanguage by native speakers) when we decided to homeschool. Our biggest concern with this choice was losing the years of language we had invested in our daughter and her losing a something she absolutely loved learning. We discovered chicle when exploring Carrboro and decided to write them about a possible group class for homeschoolers. I worked with Sara Biondi, their office manager, and she was able to organize a homeschool group class. However, the first day of class we were the only family in attendance as all the other families had decided to cancel at last minute. Sara and the Chicle team worked with us and our budget to find a tutor solution for our daughter. We now have daytime classes at Chicle twice a week with two different teachers, Alma Manso and Perla S. which provide a fun and diverse learning experience. We feel our daughter has grown her Spanish skills more this year tutoring with Chicle than spending her entire days at an immersion school. We have been very impressed with her progress!! We have been attending Chicle classes for almost a year now and it has been an all around fantastic experience. From the organized office manager to the awesome teachers to the convenient location. I really like how they tailor a class or lesson to your needs. If you know of several people who want to do a class they can set that up or put you in one that is already set up. They also do private tutoring which is what I am doing now after my teenage daughter and I did a group class together over the Summer. It's a little more expensive but for me having the personalized attention and ongoing interaction has been very helpful and worth the extra cost. I took Spanish in grad school and didn't learn as much as I am learning now. I really love my instructor, Pilar. She is good at drawing you out and giving you feedback real time to help you speak more fluently. She is also very personable and warm and entertaining. I had Perla once and she was very nice and got both my daughter and I to practice and we enjoyed her instruction style as well. They offer children's programs (though might be in the summer), study abroad experiences and translation services as well.

To any parents that may be considering sending their kids to ID Tech technology camp, I would not…read morerecommend it. My son went there in June and though the counselors are polite and upbeat college students, we were less than satisfied with the overall quality of the experience. The Pros: - I did find the camp counselors energetic, upbeat, polite, and socially engaging with the kids. I do think that they do a good job of trying to make the experience a fun one and facilitate getting the kids comfortable with one another. - The UNC campus is a nice venue for the camp. The Cons: - The first part of the disappointment relates to the fact that even though we had signed my son up for a particular track (FPS - Unreal Development Kit), on the first day, they had him attending another track. My son, who is 12, brought it to their attention, but was told that he was in the right class and he must not have remembered what we had signed him up for. My wife talked to the camp director immediately after hearing that from my son the first night. After the camp director checked into it at my wife's request, it turns out that there were two kids (one being my son) with the same first name and last Initial. Since check-in is done by finding your name tag that displays only first name and last initial, the problem occurred there, so they actually had two campers attending the wrong tracks for the first day. It makes me wonder about those kids that have medications distributed while they are there? Do they ever get the wrong medicines? - The instruction format is not what we expected. We thought that it would be instructor lead tutorials, with hands-on exercises and mentoring as follow-up to those. As my wife and I asked more and more questions of my son in regards to the structure of the day, it sounds like it was largely self-paced discovery and you could ask the instructor / counselor any question you might have. I was very disturbed at the "Class Graduation" when the counselor said to my son, that "he heard that my son was doing some real cool stuff with his level, but he never got the opportunity to play through it". The counselors are good people and I do not intend to paint a picture otherwise. They are also young college students that are not trained instructors and are not necessarily expert at the topic they are teaching. Considering the cost of the camp, the program that my son attended did not provide anything close to a good value. For any parent considering sending the kids to this camp with the hopes that it will further their technological knowledge of game development and the software tools associated with it, you will be far better off buying a good PC, downloading the tools for free (www.UDK.com, www.Unity3d.com, www.yoyogames.com, etc.) and going to YouTube to watch the ample tutorials there. Once my son is old enough (needs to be a rising ninth grader) we will be sending him to the game development camps at Wake Tech at ~ 1/3rd the cost.

We tried it for our daughter with the most extreme ADHD symptoms and were so pleased, we put our other daughter (with less extreme symptoms) in as well. Our situation: two girls, daily calls and texts from teachers regarding behavior and not paying attention in school. I got an average of 2 calls per girl each day. I dreaded answering my phone and my stomach hurt when I saw the school name pop up on my phone. My husband is dead set against medication; me not so much. So the combination of diet, program and home exercises made sense for us. The cost is really high. Not going to lie about it. But it's worth every single dollar. I've watched first-hand as things started to change - small things like my daughter doing less donkey kicks while she watched her tablet, her starting to do things the 1st or 2nd time I told her, making eye contact when she speaks, and moving to having control over her actions. Finally, both my girls would tell me that they wanted to do better, be better but they couldn't reach those goals. Their brains didn't have the connections to give them that level of control. It's an amazing process to watch and to know that you are hitting the root of the problem rather than applying temporary band-aids.
