I had always planned to have a natural birth with no medical interventions (if possible), so I knew I wanted to work with a Doula. I knew that a Doula would make my experience better, but I had no idea HOW much better it would actually be. From the start Jenna made me feel comfortable, supported, and empowered. There were no"dumb questions" or concerns, even when my hormones had me acting and feeling crazy leading up to the birth. I cannot imagine (and I don't want to imagine) my birth experience without her! OK here comes the long labor and birth story... I started having pre-labor contractions and weird symptoms (I was barely 37 weeks along)- Jenna texted and checked in with me throughout the day and into the night. I woke up when my water broke at midnight, my husband called Jenna and she helped time my contractions until it was time to head to the hospital (which happened very quickly). Jenna must have left get house immediately because as soon as we checked in, she was there with a smile on her face and excited to help! I was happy to find out that the nurses knew her and were actually happy that she was there to assist with my labor and birth! Over the next 22 hours, Jenna encouraged me, supported my husband, helped me get into different positions, heated water bottles for my lower back pain (she brought her own heater for this!), tracked all vitals reported by the nurses (there was even a time that they double-checked my previous blood pressure with her), helped me to the bathroom, fielded questions from the grandparents. There were long periods of time that my husband and I would have been alone, so we were so thankful that Jenna was there. When it came time to push, she and one other nurse held my legs so my husband could hold my hand. When our little baby made his arrival, Jenna was taking pictures and video (I forgot that I asked her for this)- somehow she managed to only capture the beautiful moments, haha! She continued to check in with me the days after delivery and came to our home a couple weeks later. My baby is now two months old and she still checks in on how we are all doing. My main concerns for labor and birth were that I would feel out of control, and scared- with Jenna there I never felt that way. She made sure our birth experience was miraculous and beautiful! I can't wait to call Jenna for our next baby's birth! Oh, and thanks to her, I was able to have a fully natural birth without medical intervention! Thank you, Jenna!!!

With my most recent delivery, one of the first things I tell people is I couldn't have done it without my Doula. Jenna helped me with positioning to move through early labor. Then when active labor hit she knew exactly how to ease my labor pains and help me through all my contractions. She was a wealth of knowledge pertaining to evidence based information on pregnancy, labor and delivery, breastfeeding, and postpartum care. I am so thankful for her knowledge and care during those very painful first few weeks of breastfeeding, I really don't think Luca and I would have been as successful without her! I completely underestimated what role she would play during my labor, she was vital to my mental state through the whole thing. When I was ready to give up around every corner, she was there to remind me of my strength and that what I was going through was normal and the pain was only temporary. Something I appreciated most were the scriptures she read to me that lifted my spirit and helped bring joy to my pain. After 30 hours of labor I was exhausted physically and mentally, and she said a prayer over us that brought tears to my eyes and renewed my strength. She knew when to crack a joke to make me laugh, when to reassure me with words of affirmation, and when to just be silent and comfort me with her presence...I call that a great friend! She also made sure I was always taking little sips of water or nibbles of food. She was always 10 steps ahead of me and my discomfort. Her postpartum visits were everything! Just having someone come over to check on my husband and me, mentally and physically, meant the world. When the rest of the world couldn't wait to hold the baby, she was there to hold my hand and tell me that everything was going to be okay. I actually cried at our last visit because I had grown so attached to her! I like to think it wasn't just the hormones talking! I can't forget to mention that this amazing woman spent 16 hours giving me counter pressure on my hips with EVERY contraction! Talk about arm strength! you will not regret having her apart of your birth team! Britany, I can't say enough good things about you! She noticed as soon as I stopped coping with contractions as well and was always there to change positions, provide hip squeezes, or give another idea or encouragement. She fanned me with a paper fan with peppermint oil on it when I was nauseous and helped give me guidance when I was in doubt. She was there for us before, during, and after our birth. She also took some wonderful pictures throughout our labor (many more than I posted because many are personal). I was a little unsure about hiring a doula initially and now I couldn't imagine going through labor without her. We will definitely be hiring her for any future births.

I was initially on the fence about taking a birthing bootcamp course in preparation for my first baby, however, I had numerous people recommend Nita and her work. After my initial phone conversation with her, I realized she not only has all the credentials to back up her work, but she is also a mamma of four and has first hand experience in various birth situations. Once the course finished, I continued to reach out (and still do) to ask questions regarding my baby. My friend recommended I watch the documentary with Ricky Lake ( The Business of Being Born) to get more insight of what typically happens when giving birth via the hospital route and that lead me to decide to go the natural route like she did with her 4 children. She recommended I go through Family Birth Services like she did and that was the beat choice I could've made. Betty, who works in the office, was so pleasant and instantly gave warmth and comfort when I called to inquire more about how things worked. She was patient and friendly and seemed to care as if she'd already known me. At this point, I was still undecided on whether to go natural or continue with my hospital visits and upon returning to the next hospital check up visit, the feeling of being treated as a "patient" or treated as just another pregnant lady with a check up was overwhelming. My doctor was in (what I thought) was a clean hospital and my delivery was supposed to be at Medical City Hospital. I was looking for a final sign on what direction to go with the delivery and when I took my urine sample at the last doctor's office visit, I was disgusted because I - once again- had to place my urine in the small window next to the urine samples of other pregnant women whose samples had not be removed from the window yet. Needless to say, I left that appointment and asked the check out to send my records to Family Birth Services. My midwifes were Esther and April and they were a gem!! They were just as pleasant as my initial phone call to the birth center and they made me feel like they cared about me and my unborn baby like I did. This proved to be the same during the delivery and post giving birth. They both came with gloves and masks and all the safe materials needed when the day came for my baby girl to arrive. Ester made sure to check in on me and give advice on things to help with issues like painful breastfeeding and etc and April was just as knowledgable about information when I asked her. I'm beyond grateful to have listened to my friend's recommendation because a natural birth proved to be the best route that I could've gone as it relates to the treatment, cost, the lack of wear and tear on my body that would've happened under a hospital's supervision, and my overall birthing experience. I would most definitely recommend any woman looking for proper treatment for herself and her baby to use them!

I initially was very against it since this seems so dangerous and outdated but it was a pleasant experience. I convinced my wife to see a regular doctor at first and it was nothing but mistakes and people pointing fingers at each other in the office. Such a contrast with April and our student Esther. Every question answered and helpful from start to finish. Very organized and informative. I learned a lot in the classes held at the midwives location. Just the amount of support we had alone from the midwives was well worth it. We would definitely go this route again should it come to pass. There's no substitute for a mom delivering comfortably at home and these girls made that possible.

Her holistic approach is just what I've been looking for. Dr Snead is very patient & kind. He did the internal ultrasound that discovered my fibroids. I absolutely LOVE that he offers to pray for you after every appt. He recently did my hysterectomy (11/2024) he prayed for us before surgery which really helped put my nerves at ease. I'm healing so well and I barely have scars. I've heard a few say Ms Angela rushes around. If so she does her job well and really listens. It's up to the patient to advocate any needs. There's only 2 of them and they care for so many, I always make sure to bring a list of concerns or questions and I always walk away feeling heard.
