Made a point of passing through Hampton so I could eat there on my way home several weeks ago. Definitely worth the stop. As I had never been, I needed a little help with the menu. Several people in line were very helpful. The line moved quickly. The lady at the order window guided me to an order of chicken only since I wanted to enjoy the fried Chicken without sides. Only thing that would have made it better is if there had been some place to sit down. Sitting in the car eating fried Chicken that was piping hot was a bit of a challenge. Delicious!!! Ordered through the to go window. Service was fast and friendly. $6 for a meal is unheard of this day in age. I got 2 dark meat chicken pieces with fries and a roll. Large Sweet tea was $2. I heard the honey mustard was to die for so I snagged one of those also. Was not disappointed! read more

We were driving from Beaufort to Augusta and found this gem on Yelp. It's Just what we were in the mood for! Fried chicken, fried shrimp and fried okra. What a feast! We also had fried gizzards. My only complaint is that the chicken items were a little too salty for my taste, but perfectly cooked! The staff was super friendly and patient as we perused the very large menu. The people at Rigdon's are truly angels. My husband is a lineman and is currently working with the crews to rebuild the affected areas. Long story short, the company was short on the meal count for the crews. My husband called Rigdon's, in a pinch, to order 13 meals. The owner didn't hesitate and said come on. When my husband got there, they refused to let him pay and there was enough food for a small army. Rigdon's, your generosity and huge heart meant SO much to these guys!!! I promise you they will remember this and pay it forward! With the hours they are working around the clock, I can promise you this was MOST appreciated. As a chicken finger connoisseur I do not make the following statement lightly: Rigdon's has the best chicken in SC. Upon arrival you order at the window (or I believe you can call in/order online and check in at the window). There is about a 15-20 minute wait depending on the day. I've never seen there not be a line. The workers show true southern hospitality- knowing the locals by name and inquiring as to where non-locals are from, asking about their trip, etc. The chicken fingers are perfect. Crispy without being over fried, juicy, full of meat and cooked to literal perfection. The French fries are your average fries but fantastic none the less. The simplest things are the absolute best here. The cost is average. Overall, Rigdon's is worth the wait in line! This place has too much business for that old building. You have to stand outside if you don't place a phone order the wait is absolutely ridiculous I went and had to wait dang near 20 minutes just to order. Then I had to wait another 25-30 minutes OUTSIDE in 1000 degree heat because the lobby area was only for people who actually placed phone orders. The food itself wasn't bad I ordered the 2 piece breast meal the kids chicken tender meal and the Carolina shrimp prices weren't bad, but the Carolina shrimp were very salty. The chicken was ok but tasted a lot like cooking oil. I've had their food before and it was way better so I'm in between on whether I'll go back or not. read more

I can't believe this place is still around! My first job right out of high school was building bridges. Hampton was 4 hours from my house me and 6 other men stopped every evening on the way back to our hotel and got dinner. that was in 2000 they had the best chicken in SC I think and the they were quick and staff was respectful but the thing I remember the most was their big large cups of pink lemonade I haven't found any that's came close to theirs. read more

This is the best roadside fried chicken and okra I've ever had. The chicken was juicy and not too salty. My kids got a chicken sandwich and corn dog and ate every bite quickly. "Better than Zaxby's!" they said. We decided after traveling in from GA on the way to Hunting Island to stop here and give a small biz our $. Glad we did. The service was courteous and although it wasn't fast it was understandable because there were a number of locals who were smart enough to call their orders in ahead. You will stand outside to order and wait for your take-out and there's no restrooms so be prepared for that. If you are a fried chicken fan, you MUST try this place. We detoured off of 95 onto 321 through SC to eat from this local gem instead of fast food. It was out of the way but so so so worth it! The owner was friendly and amazing, and the other staff so welcoming. The chicken was crispy and juicy. Hands down fantastic home cooking. Coleslaw was delicious.
