I want to give this place five stars, but the fact that they're not open on weekends (or haven't been the last few times I've tried to go) and I work most of the week makes it difficult. Coffee is from Texas Coffee Traders, and I love that. It's family owned, and even the high school? age kids know how to make a good latte. Mom makes fresh 'box lunches' every day. So far I've had a fresh turkey sandwich with a small pile of yummy mixed nuts (no peanuts in sight), grapes and shortbread cookies dipped in dark chocolate, and homemade chicken salad sandwich (with apples!) with strawberries and crunchy Annie's grahams on the side. Perfect portions; I love that its not crappy kettle chips and a wobbly pickle thrown on the side. Especially if you live in 78723, it's worth checking out. read more

From the outside I was a tad skeptical as it sits in a strip mall. Upon entrance there's a cozy narrow room with orange art-lined walls that leads to the coffee bar. One of those crazy "what the f---" moments happened for me here. Behind the bar was a girl who worked with me at an art supply store in San Francisco. She is from Louisiana like me, but we've never seen each other there. It was so strange but wonderfully serendipitous. I had two double espressos and an everything bagel with cream cheese. The espresso is the best espresso I've had in Austin. The bagel was good too...it had rye seeds which was unusual in the typical everything bagel seed assortment. The space is clean, ample outlets for laptops, good coffee, chill music, well-designed interior, warm, and, judging by the hire of my very kind friend, the management seems to know what they're doing with their staff. Corona is a hidden Austin gem. Everything and everyone at Corona Cafe scream Austin! The family who runs this shop has an awesome take on life and business. Now about the coffee and food. Their paninis are so cheesily delicious. I was lucky enough to taste Greg's grandmas pudding recipe and I seriously wish it was on the menu. I thoroughly enjoy their Chai Latte, iced or hot. I spent a good majority of the time driving around in the heat and I could always count on their iced chai or iced latte to re-energize me. They also have a punch card reward program. There is plenty more goodies like pizza, bagels, cereal, pumpkin bread, sausage roll thingy, etc. The art at corona is equally unique and there is always plenty of parking and a place to sit. They also have an area for kids to sit and draw which is great because you don't normally see coffee shops taking the time to make space for the kiddos. At Corona you will always be greeted with a smile, advice is always on the burner and interesting conversations are around the corner. haha. Tucked away behind I-35 near some large shopping complexes, Corona Cafe offers a great java getaway. The low-key atmosphere provides a relaxed feel alongside some cool people and great service. The cup of joe is cheap and good here, and they have a handful of baked goods, snacks, and sweets for you to enjoy with your buzz-inducing beverage. Austin has some unique coffeeshops and certainly a wide variety of menus and beverage selections. Corona cafe is a straightforward little establishment, but it does a great job and providing your with your morning boost! Did I mention they offer cereal as well? A year ago, I moved into a house a block away from Corona Cafe and this was the first place I went after moving into my new digs. I'm pretty sure I was painting that day and stopped in for an iced coffee and met the owners of the coffee shop. As previously mentioned, the shop is run by a family and they do an awesome job. I love everthing from the coffee to the sandwiches to the conversation. I like to think that I'm extra special because I became friends with Jenn, Greg, and the Corona Kids, as I like to call them (but I dont think they are aware of that until now! :D ) But I'm pretty sure that they form amazing relationships with all of their customers. read more

I read the reviews and made the long trek from SW Austin...This was a tiny hole in the wall place, with Austin charm. The staff was very friendly welcoming and nice...the $6.00 green tea chi late was not so great tasted very watered down..but others say it has been great. I had a short informal meeting here and I was super nervous, but the owner's friendly face was so relaxing during the ordering process that I ended up having a pleasant time! I really like the casual warm atmosphere with sturdy wood tables and they are spaced far enough for a little privacy. I ordered the Waikiki sneaky- organic fair trade coffee with salted caramel and frothy milky foam. I wasn't tempted by their baked goods for some reason, but the coffee was delicious and a good price. I'm usually a late night coffeehouse goer, but since I am in the area every week I could definitely see this being my place for the occasional coffee fix. Love this place! Came here on my first day of my Austin trip, and will be coming back every day to get me going. I was warmly greeted and quickly became friendly with Naiman, Bridget, and Dabne. Absolutely feels like your friends' place, making you drinks! That said, if you want to study/work, and not chat with people, you should probably bring headphones. Obviously I like the community and conversation. I recommend the green tea chai latte, and one of their specialties, the Harvest Moon-- honey hazelnut latte. But all of their specialty drinks sound divine! Food wise, they stock lots of yummy local muffins, sandwiches, burritos, etc. I loved their tomato-mozzarella sandwich, but I hear their breakfast tacos are rad. Gonna have to get one tomorrow. I've been here three times so far and I love it! The first time I went, I wasn't even sure if I was in the right place. It can seem hidden in the strip mall but it's well worth the stop. The coffee shop is very cute and quiet. It's generally not too crowded but there are plenty of regulars who come in and get their drinks to go. Each time the owner has been there and he's so nice and energetic. The vibe is very fun and there are tons of outlets (yay!). Each time I've gotten the berry hibiscus tea and it's perfect! Slightly sweet, which is perfect for me. I also got a breakfast taco once it was delicious. I recommend this place as a quiet place to study/work/meet up with friends. I'll be back! read more

This is a sweet little coffee shop just over the highway from north Hyde Park. I stopped in here to try it out, and I was really impressed. The space is small, which may be a downside over time as the neighborhood picks up. My small soy latte was strong, just how I like it. My barista was friendly, and I *loved* the art on the walls. I noticed only one person working on a laptop. I'm not into the whole working at coffee shops thing, but if you are, this may be a great alternative to the more crowded venues. I'm writing this as I sip on some kind of magic latte that Naiman created for me after I dragged my haggard behind into Corona for some caffeine. (Normally I get a chlorophyll and green tea latte with almond milk, but today called for some extra oomph. I was clearly not disappointed.) As he described it, it tastes exactly like gingerbread. I agree, but it's 800x better than any gingerbread I've ever had. He also said, "It's sometimes just really nice to have the time to make something special for someone." Can it get better than that? Can it?! Some other bright spots about Corona: they make a lot of their own flavors from scratch (the blackberry syrup is fantastic, and so is the long-brewed cinnamon/clove tea). (Edit: I previously thought they roast their own beans...someone who doesn't work there told me that! See Naiman's comment below. Does not change my opinion.) I found out today that the condensed milk is handmade. A lot of the baked goods are as well. They serve sandwiches from Fricano's that are delicious. I just moved to the area and figured that I would take some visiting friends with me on my first trip to check this place out. In short? We love this cafe. It's intimate, not Starbucks-busy, and within walking distance. One friend ordered the house-developed green tea chai. The owner even took the time to describe the flavors with which he crafted this chai. Very unique coffee shop! They make all the syrup in house and I got the lavender iced coffee - very tasty! Had a taste the iced coffee with condensed milk which was great as well. They don't use the canned stuff but rather make their condensed milk themselves with cane sugar, you can definitely taste the difference. I live in the Windsor neighborhood and am so very happy to have this place around. It is the exact mix of family and hip atmosphere that this Austin neighborhood needs more of. The family that runs it keeps innovating and looking for new ways to make things better; and by and large they succeed at every turn. Is it perfect? Of course not. I've never been to the perfect restaurant because it doesn't exist. Is this place awesome and worth stopping by? Undoubtedly. Bring your kids, meet some friends, read a paper or have conversation with one of the baristas. Oh, and their iced coffee is off the hook. Keep Austin weird...and tasty. read more

I moved to this neighborhood right when the new owners first took over the cafe. I really wanted to like this place since it is local and close by. I never have a decent experience at this café unless the parents are working. I have gotten food from Corona a few times everything is fine except the breakfast tacos. They are never good. The tacos always have weird synthetic after taste and are dry. Even salsa can't help those tacos. I brought my visiting family to the cafe 40 minutes before closing. The daughter wasn't flat out rude but needs a little more training in customer service. She asked us if we we're planning on staying to drink our coffee or leaving. We responded we were going to stay and enjoy our coffee. She then proceeded to tell us they were closing soon with that sweet teenage I really want you to leave now face. What she should have done was put our drinks in to go cups and let us sit and enjoy our coffee (mind you the place still had a couple of customers). I was so frustrated with the service I did not order a drink. My mother and sister were unhappy with their watered down drinks and were disappointed I brought them to Corona Cafe. This was my worst experience yet. I will not recommend this place. And I will not go there again. read more

Yeah, I hear they have excellent coffee. But I can actually think of at least 3 really good reasons to go there that have nothing to do with coffee: 1) As someone who doesn't often drink caffeine, I really appreciate their awesome selection of non-caffeinated drinks. (A lot of cafes only serve the same old, boring mint and chamomile teas). They have something called the 'Supernova' which is lemon-lime echinacea (with, I think, blackberry syrup) that is one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted. 2) This is a family owned and run place, where everyone is super nice. I really like this coffee shop (I live in the 'hood), it's a great space, friendly owners and employees, but I really wish they'd use filtered water. The water in this neighborhood has a very distinctive (and unpleasant) flavor, and I can taste it in the coffee. Which is precisely why I don't go there very often, even though I'd like to. Additionally, they need to partner with a local pastry purveyor to take that snack case up a notch; I think they're still using muffins from Costco, which is a shame as there are a lot of awesome bakers in this town whose pastries could shine at Corona. read more

So far I have only found this place to be awesome! It is the closest independent coffee shop to my house, and also the closest cool place to wait near my mechanic. The iced coffee is cold brewed and delish. I love the atmosphere here - very clean and comfy. The barista is friendly and helpful. He is also playing chess right now at the bar with a friend. The clientele seem to be a mix of folks from the neighborhood - some here to pick up their morning coffee on the way to work, some hanging out with their (awesomely behaved and quiet) baby, some here for professional meetings. I came for the air conditioned wi-fi and caffeination. The walls are cheerily painted with warm colors and decorated with art work for sale. Very cool. I hope this place doesn't become crowded with students (besides me) once school starts. read more

Naiman is the owner here, and he does a really good job of making you feel like family. I've been here twice now, and I feel completely comfortable dropping off my computer on a big table and walking back outside to get even more equipment where I can set up my work station. I have taken full advantage of the free WIFI (better than at home, insanely, since I live in the neighborhood) and camaraderie. For example, the first time I was here a mere two days ago, I met Marcus, who was working on a short film about bees... even though he knows zip about bees. Then, the next time, I met Jeff... Jeff works at Nomad Bar. He can SING! How do I know this? We sang together... at the coffee shop. Out loud. Naiman can sing too!! We sang "Rainbow Connection!" So, I was pleasantly surprised to find Corona Coffee situated in a tiny, unassuming strip mall a few blocks from my new home. Some days it is very busy and service is slow and on others, it is not as bad. However regardless of the number of customers, the staff seems to move at a snails pace.
