This used to be my go-to place in the summer for produce and Amish bakery. Covid kept me away for a…read morecouple of years, but went back recently to get some peaches and watermelon this summer (used to be the only place around I could find yellow watermelon). I was shocked to find that they had expanded and doubled the size of their store, which is excellent for them. What isn't excellent is how much their prices have shot up. I know everything is going up and accept that, but this was even beyond what I consider the other "expensive" fruit stands in the area. I did a circuit of the store and left without buying anything (which has never happened before).

We go there monthly, throughout the summer. Also, a great place to purchase large quantities, like tomatoes, pickles/cucumbers, peppers, Jade Green Beans (the BEST green beans Ever !), etc. for canning/freezing/dehydrating. You can buy by the peck, half bushel and bushel. It's always good to call ahead and place your order...440-548-2676 They, also, offer flowering plants, fresh baked goods, homemade jams/jellies/pickles/etc., homemade noodles, homemade birdhouses and other wood products ! What a Great Resource to have in our area ! In response to John B. With the crazy weather here in NE Ohio, a lot of farmers can't grow what they used to and in massive quantities, so Yes, more produce has been brought in to cover the demand. Do give this wonderful farm stand a chance to prove him wrong !

Heritage Meats - Best hot dogs ever? Quite possibly.

I visited Heritage Meats in Middlefield recently. I was hoping they carried some high quality beef…read moresticks, but they didn't have the kind I wanted. I found some nice looking hot dogs though. A four pack was $3.71 and they were plump. This joint was jumpin'. There were people slicing meat, stocking shelves, ringing people up, chopping up sections of beef, and what have you. I felt like I had stepped back into the year 1800. I was very impressed with the establishment. I bought the hot dogs and some beef sticks. At home, I was a little too excited, so I microwaved one of the hot dogs for one minute. I thought to myself, "Hmmm. These are Amish hot dogs. I wonder if they're fully cooked." I ate it anyway. It was the best microwaved hot dog I've ever tasted. It had a good amount of moisture and a ton of flavor with a hint of smokiness. Loved it. A while later I thought, "That was a great hot dog, why not have another?" So I did. When my wife and son got home, I told them about the hot dog experience. The next day, they ate the two remaining hot dogs and agreed with me regarding their flavor. Now I have to drive an hour to Middlefield to buy more of these amazing hot dogs. Luckily, I have business to do in Middlefield. I will be a repeat customer whenever I can.

I spent $100 on meat (pork butt and beef ribs). The pork butt was good and well-trimmed. The beef ribs had way too much fat, which jacked up the price. I'll have to take a better look next time I shop before I accept their meat offering.

This is a review of the Geauga Family Farms CSA program. At the beginning of the summer, you pay…read moreone price for a small, medium or large share, add any extras, and then for the next 20 weeks you pick up a box of assorted organic produce at one of a dozen locations. They have quite a few locations, at various times during the week and spread throughout greater Cleveland. Some of the extras include meat, eggs, bread and jam. Bulk veggies (for canning) are also available upon request. At the onset, the amount of veggies is a little light with little variety ( so much lettuce!) But by mid-summer we were receiving watermelon, peppers, bok choy, garlic, potatoes, eggplant, strawberries, many varieties of tomatoes, herbs, onions, carrots, garlic scapes, cantaloupe and much more. These are organic veggies, and I knew they wouldn't be perfect (I grew up eating almost exclusively homegrown veggies) but I did expect higher quality. You really need to have a plan for the veggies, either very flexible meal plans or a large freezer and some time. I love eat peak of summer veggies in the middle of a dreary January. You also have to be fairly open minded when you receive something you've never seen. This was the fun part, because it was kind of a surprise every week. However, we have also been surprised in a bad way. We were warned that some worms had gotten into the corn, but they included it anyway. The sight of wormy holes in the corn is just a turnoff. Most of the lettuce has little slugs all over it, and even after washing several times they held on tight, so we have been tossing all the lettuce too. I'm not a vegetarian but I don't really want to eat slugs. Today I found slugs in the blackberries so deemed them inedible too. I'm pretty sure I won't participate next year, as the amount of veggies we receive that we want to eat vs. the amount that seem irreparably flawed in some way does not make this a good financial investment for us. It has been disappointing, and I wish I had just stuck to shopping at the grocery store.
