Wonderful christian camp. Beautiful setting and kind staff. Not as fancy perhaps as some? But we think it's just right.

The most impressive thing about Camp Ridgecrest is the staff they hire each summer.

I want to be fully transparent about my recent experience at Camp Hollymont as a counselor in…read moretraining aka CIT. *IMPORTANT INFORMATION I WANT PARENTS, AND FUTURE STAFF MEMBERS AND OR CIT's TO BE AWARE OF* I arrived at Camp Hollymont a day before the campers arrived. When I got there all of the CIT's received a brief synopsis of the camp and what our job entailed. Camp hollymont has wonderful camp counselors that take the time to make sure that your child's individual needs are met, especially for the little campers. I had also met the staff members and the camp director Emily Levy. A lot of the staff members are very friendly they took time out of their day to speak to me, I had lots of memorable moments with the staff members. Before I had arrived at camp I was required to do an online interview with Emily Levy ( Camp director ) our interview went well, she appeared to be very friendly and homey. Fast forward to when the camp had begun the camp director DID NOT appear to be as friendly as she was in our interview. Emily levy ( Camp Director ) always appeared to be annoyed, and easily irritable. Very unfriendly. Every time the CIT's would talk to her she would make us feel unimportant as if we were a burden by simply sharing the same space as her. One of the CIT's told me that Ms. Levy had told her that camp hollymont was for "campers and NOT CIT" and that C.I.T's were not wanted at the camp. The directors' comments rubbed me the wrong way. Because I personally thought the whole point of being a CIT was so that we could work our way up to being a part of the staff team. Ms.Levy would NEVER take the time out of her day to speak to CIT's. I personally didn't feel invited into her social circle/clique. She didn't even take the time to check in on us weekly. I was expecting her to be more personable considering that she is the camp director. On the day of my departure she didn't even come up to my car to tell me goodbye, not even a thank you for your help. She stood on the grass and watched my car pass by. As the days went by I was beginning to feel extremely drained from the camp, all of the C.I.T's were walking on average 4 miles a day to complete the laborious jobs we were required to do. By the time the first week was coming to an end I was ready to quit and go home but I stayed hoping that things would be better. For me personally managing children was the least stressful part of my day. The days at camp felt extremely long because CIT's didn't have the time to relax or have FUN we were always in constant work mode. I would usually end off my day with sour feet and extreme exhaustion, our day did not end until all of the campers were asleep, we would stay in the camper's hallways until 11 pm. As a C.I.T I felt like I was overworked. All of the CIT's worked like dogs while still trying to manage to maintain a smile on our faces for the campers. I'm not trying to discourage anyone interested in becoming a CIT but I would like people to know what my experience as a CIT was like so that you won't be clueless like I was when I was hired for the position. Staff members were NOT TRAINED in the skills they were assigned, there were many times where activities and skills at the camp felt thrown together. I asked one of the counselors whether or not she received the proper training to run certain skills and activities and she said NO. Hearing this from a camp counselor concerned me. The counselors weren't given a checklist, of things they should do during that class period. So they would always have to think about what they were going to teach the kids DURING THEIR SKILLS. I personally would NOT go back to camp hollymont again, especially if I'm going to receive the odd-one-out treatment from the camp director. The camp helped me to grow as an individual. I am very grateful that I had an opportunity like this even if it was challenging. I would like to thank all of the lovely staff, counselors, Gayle, Missy Roper, and the children that I was assigned to work with for being the wonderful human beings that they are!!

Longview Ranch was such a treat to visit with our youth group!…read more The venue is the perfect size for groups under 125. It is located in a much forgotten about area of beautiful East Tennessee, tucked away just a few miles off the interstate. Multiple times on the drive there (about 1:15 from Knoxville) my breath was taken away at the scenery and gorgeousness of the farm land and mountains. The staff at the retreat was TOP NOTCH. It was clear they train and plan very effectively to meet the needs of the groups they are serving. The cabins we used were spacious and very clean. There were 8 bunk beds in each room with a full bathroom. I did not see them, but I understand they have very nice housing quarters for people like guest speakers, etc. The food was fantastic and exceeding all of my expectations for "camp food." I hope we are able to return here for many more years to come!
