This is my second time in physical therapy (for different reasons) and I came back to Optimum because of my incredibly positive experience the last time (2 years ago). I'm shocked I didn't write a review back then! Im here to get treatment on my back after having a baby. Being pregnant took a toll on my body and an MRI revealed 2 herniated discs. So far all my sessions begin with a few minutes on a stim machine, with a hot compress. After that, my therapist will do manual work/massge therapy on my back (my favorite part!) and at the end she will guide me through exercises. I really love that they don't just give me a piece of paper, direct me toward a machine, & let me do the exercise on my own (lots of PT practices do exactly that) but rather my PT is right there with me, guiding me through the exercises and making sure my form and position are correct. They also have a really need portal you can log into where your therapist sends you an exercise program for you to do at home. That portal offers a shirt description.of each exercise, including a 'how to' video and there's even a space for you to send notes to your therapist. When you complete an exercise you get "points". It's super motivating for me and gameifying homework is always a plus. Outside of that the office is always clean & presentable. The staff is very friendly (entire staff from reception to interns to PTs) and professional. I've seen a few of the PTs here and they're all amazing. This is a really special place and I actually looking forward to my sessions! Kinda weird to write such a detailed review of a PT office but I love them that much and I'm slowly feeling and getting better and better so I had to give them props and show some love. He is highly skilled in manual therapy work, which (in my opinion) is a critical part of therapy. It is rare you find a physical therapist that spends the FULL hour with you, but Marcello does. As a dancer and athlete, I tend to have injuries or pain often, and since seeing Dr. Marcello, I am learning proper body mechanics to perform exercises more effectively without injury. Today when I had my weekly PT as usual and this therapist ( Kevin ) , an mid-aged Asian male , after commenting my weight while he was giving treatment , I totally changed my mind about this place. I am a 5'7 125 lbs female , not clinically obese of course ,getting a comment from my therapist saying I am fat (out of no where )?! What ???? So I confronted him and told him that I am just 125 lbs and I am 5'7, he kept denying that I was not telling the truth about my weight and kept saying if I lose 5-10 lbs, I would gain youth and beauty. ( are you serious ?? Sir ! I am in my late 20's ) I want to emphasize that he gave this comment out of no where and I was just basically lied on my stomach receiving massage treatment from him while he was talking, not that I was engaging a conversation with him about my appearance ..... I thought about it myself , I don't think there was a language barrier between him and me as I was speaking in his mother language(Mandarin) . Second of all, it is not a therapist business to judge my weight specially there is nothing to judge to begin with . I was thinking in my mind , hello ?! You are a physical therapist and you are not a weight loss consultant :) but just to be polite at the moment, I chose to not say anything back to him. Anyway , Beside him criticizing my weight and body-shamed me , he did not give any other other constructive comments about my physical health. Plus the front desk woman kept taking off her mask while she was at the front desk which there are signs everywhere that say to keep your masks on at all time in the facility!
