This is one of my favorite bakery's. I grew up going here with my grandfather and I hadn't been back in nearly 20 years. I walked in and it was just how I remembered it. They have a wide range of pastries, food, and coffees. Who would think this little spot would whip up the best almond milk cafecito ?!? The pastries- next level phenomenal and they sell the most wanted brazo gitano in many flavors. Everyone is so kind and nice. They even have indoor seating and a restroom. While rather unfortunately named, their Brazo Gitano or Gypsy's Arm is a traditional pastry of Western PR, specifically Mayagüez. We sampled it while visiting with family in the area. It is a soft, white cake filled with various fillings such as jams and cheese. They can be quite sweet. This location is conveniently near the cathedral and central plaza and includes a lot of seating inside. They also sell donuts, flans and other baked goods. read more

1/10/2016 - While in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, you have to go to LA RICOMINI. It is the best bakery in town, known for their pastries, breads and Brazo Gitano. Everything is fresh. I came here for their Sobao bread also known as sweet bread or pan de manteca. This bread is best when it is straight out the oven. TIP: always order 2 loafs, because I promise you will eat one on the way home. TRUE STORY! We nickname it; "El major pan del mundo" (The best bread in the world) They also make Pan de Agua (water bread, similar to French or Italian), Pan Frances (French) and pan flauta. The pastries are huge and absolutely addicting. We order the Puertorican donuts, quesito, pastelitos de guayaba and my sister's favorite Mayorca. Great customer service as always. Amazing bakery. Massive selection, attentive service (in English if needed). We came all the way here from Rincon twice, it was so good. Everything we tried (and we tried A LOT) was excellent and fresh. Recommend the guava and cream cheese Mallorca (?), cream-filled caramel coated "eclair" kind of thing, and all the fruit/cheese flaky pastries. Glazed donut was also as good as any I've ever had. Parking is a hot mess here... but worth the hassle!!!! Friendly service & a wonderful selection of pastries, coffee, & sandwiches. And ohhhhhhh the sandwiches!!!! Anything made with pan de mallorca is absolutely delicious. If I ever end up living in Puerto Rico, I would probably quickly upgrade to the next BMI level. We were excited to try some baked goods from here since it has such good reviews and it's a huge bakery. We bought flan de coco, tres leche and some huge chocolate chip cookie with tons of chocolate and they tasted like they were baked a few days ago. The flan was hard, tres leche was disappointing just a bunch of cinnamon on top and dry, the cookie was old tasting. We took 2 bites and threw it away. $15 waisted the best thing was the chocolate milk. read more

The better ones where the actual bread loafs (bollo de pan), the Flan de vainalla and the mallorca (even though they gave it to me cold and stale). The worst ones were the cakes and the croissant. Apparently this is the most popular bakery in Mayaguez, and with good reason! There's no ambiance whatsoever, but who cares about ambiance when the food is delicious, high quality, and inexpensive? Win! I ordered a Cuban sandwich to share and a couple of pastries, including this somewhat intense guava-cheese roll. Honestly, they were efficient bringing out the food and you could tell that everything was fresh, including the huge selection of bakery items. Delicious pastries and good sandwiches. This is a casual cafeteria-style bakery which also has a grill/sandwich counter. Good for kids. Located on a street just north of the Plaza Colon in Mayaguez (don't trust the map). We went for a casual dinner. We came here for my mom's birthday, deciding that a home baked bakery would be better than a fancier breakfast spot. They don't have tables at the moment because of Covid, so you place your order and wait for theM to call you. We ordered 3 coffee's, toast, and two Pastries from the case. The bakery was completely empty when we ordered with only one person ahead of us. We decided to wait outside, after 15 -20 minutes of waiting and seeing people who had arrived after us leave with their food I went inside to check on our order. I asked the girl who was bringing out food if she could check on the status of our order she went to the line cook asked him, he looked around for our ticket, pulled it out from a pile and said "oh this one??" She asked him, how much of it is done? He yells back "none". I watched the entire interaction, I understand that things happen but after that she wouldn't look at me or come over and say sorry, it will be right out. Nothing. 5 minutes later we were called. The pastries were wrong, the toast was cold, we asked to speak to a manager and were told by the cashier that there wasn't one. Don't come here thinking you'll get a small town charming experience. read more

Where do I start? This place is a staple of mayaguez and has been here forever. There is so much to chose from that you'll need to make several visits. Fresh and delicious is all I can say. The cafe con leche is a little strong but most people like it that way. The guayaba/queso roll is super good and sold daily in boxes. My favorites are the cookies, strawberry cheesecake, donuts and pretty much everything here. They also serve lunch and dinner. Closes late so you can get your fix! read more

I am in search of a good place to get sweets, pastries while in Rincon, PR. Read great reviews about this place so I drove to Mayaguez to check this bakery out. It is located in the older part of Mayaguez across from Howard Johnson hotel. The area made me feel like I stepped back in time. The architecture of the buildings is typical of old villas and buildings in Spain. A very tough decision because of the wide selection of cakes and pastries. I decided to go for the chocolate mousse, pineapple cake with almonds and fruits on the inside, pastelilo de carne and the almond cookies. They're all to die for. They also serve sandwiches and lunch. Judging from the constant in and out of the people- their lunch must be good too. It's on the higher range of price for a bakery. A must for the sweet lovers when in this area. Grab some to go if you're planning to see Cabo Rojo. read more

Awesome service. Delicious brazo gitano, a Mayaguez delicacy. It's a pastry roll with a variety of fillings. The best Tembleque we have ever had. I went to this bakery a couple of months ago, and wanted to review at the time but somehow the review wasn't posting... Therefore, I am having a go at it one last time.. This is one of the fist and famous bakery on the Island...I love this bakery for the different breads and sweets they offer... Especially the "Brazo Gitano" with the different fillings, for example they have Guava, Pineapple, Apple, Chocolate, Vanilla Pudding amongst the many other filling flavors.
