My husband and I went back to our old stomping grounds (San Antonio) for Valentine's Day. We both went to UTSA, and if you went to UTSA you know about Ricky's. I've only gone once before, but my husband loves this place. I got the Hussein quesadilla which was good, but was a lot of food. Didn't know what I was getting myself into. The street tacos were basic, nothing to rave about. Now about the price. We spend about 40 bucks for two orders of street tacos and two orders for the quesadilla. Damn good tacos. Those street tacos are insanely good. Quesadillas are smaller than you would typically get from a taco track but packed with flavor. The red salsa is spicy hot but it packs a nice kick. Bean and cheese taco was okay, but paired nicely with the red salsa. The true stars are the meat. Very good little food truck. It's beside a gas station and car wash, so is a little sketch to look at but it's well lit and I felt safe. The menu was pretty simple but the employees were pretty kind and quick. I thought the tacos were very good, would need to get more than just the 1 order to be full personally. I visited Ricky's Tacos this past week and it was a great choice! After working out, an impromptu visit to a friend's house turned into late night tacos! Ricky's is conveniently located about 10 minutes from the main UTSA campus. The taco truck was parked in a Shell parking lot and was easy to find. We had to wait a few minutes for our orders, but there was some great music to jam to while we waited. The Wednesday night special was buy 4 mini tacos and get a fifth free! I got all al pastor tacos with salsa verde. The tacos came with onions, cilantro, lime and cheese. We took our tacos home to eat and they held up really well. I could have definitely eaten more! Overall, these tacos were awesome! While not my favorite tacos I've had in San Antonio, Ricky's is a great option for late night tacos when other places aren't open! read more

The best tacos in the local area! I went here on two separate occasions and both times, the food is on point. I tried their mini tacos, regular tacos - asada, chicken fajita, both are exceptionally tasty. Flavor and spice is all there. On Tuesday, it's buy three get one free. $3 for each taco though but worth the price imo. It still tasted great the next day if you have any leftover haha. It's located right by a shell gas station and car wash bay. Parking is limited. They have "X" marked where you can stand while waiting for your order to practice social distancing. They'll call tour number out so keep that receipt they give you! I highly recommend this spot for a quick bite and oh by the way, it's a food truck. read more

Brand new truck, but same great menu. Always a small crowd forming so expect a brief wait (never more than 10 mins), but it is worth it. I've been going for years and have yet to be disappointed. They were out of several things, like avocado and red salsa... and they had just opened!? I got the double stack quesadilla and I ate half of it.. only because I was starving. This place has THE BEST street tacos in the UTSA/ Helotes area. Palenque's is number 2 on the list. Ricky's is a small food truck right behind the Valero gas station on Hausman rd. Across the street from Walgreens. Alot of UTSA students come here for tacos. They have mini tacos, regular tacos, quesadillas and burritos and they come with chicken, beef or both mixed in. I usually get the 4 mini chicken tacos. I believe on Wednesday's they have a special where you can get an extra mini taco for free with the 4 mini taco combo. The chicken is perfectly cooked and seasoned, they add fresh grilled onions, cilantro and a lot of cheese with spicy salsa on the side. Amazing! The have mild salsa as well. I missed this place so much! I used to come here multiple times a week when I attended UTSA. I was pleasantly surprised when the new owner recognized me & asked where I had been. I moved away over a year ago when I finished school. She used to always let me practice my Spanish when she was the cashier. Anyways the only thing that's changed over the years is the price. I've had tacos in Mexico, Cali, Chicago, Vegas & all over Texas. Ricky's Tacos are still some of my favorites, especially the Asada. Juicy and savory, these tacos always hit the spot. Well worth the wait when they are made fresh. Side note, the new owner is really sweet & hasn't changed much that I can see. When I stopped by, I was extremely disappointed because I thought they were out of asada. After talking with the owner, she realized I was only in town for the day and quickly whipped up my favorite order. I've heard incredible things about Ricky's tacos. One night while driving around we decided to go and give it a try. The food truck was in a great area with loads of space unfortunately and not utilized to it's fullest potential they'd truly benefit with adding some benches or tables. The menu is small and simple. Mini Tacos (includes four mini tacos) , Tacos, Quesadillas and burritos with your choice of protein of carne asada, chicken fajita or al pastor. Attempted to order two 2 mini taco plates of al pastor and asada but unfortunately their card machine was down and I was short a dollar in cash so I had to cut down the Mini taco plate to just a single taco to be able to afford the meal and leave a tip. The wait was unreal over twenty minutes until we received the food we ordered. Due to their being no seating and us not wanting to eat in a gas station parking lot we drove down the street to a shopping center and began to eat! Which brings us to the food portion of the review The mini tacos were surprisingly well loading with beef. The beef was tender and the corn tortilla was an absolute delight. The el pastor was a much different story, it was extremely salty and it was a pretty large flour tortilla loading with cilantro and onions with close to no meat. After seeing such high reviews, I couldn't wait to try Ricky's. Their hours are from 7:30 - 3:00am so it's perfect for a late night meal. To be honest, I can recommend so many places that are way better for late night munchies. I'd seen reviews that said Ricky's basically operates on his own time, not adhering to the hours posted online or on the truck itself but I took a chance. I went at 7:30 on a Tuesday night. According to Google, they open at 8 so I parked across the street and stalked the truck, ready to hop in line at any moment. The truck says they open at 7:30 so I hoped they'd be open already. Unfortunately, I waited until 9:15 and nobody came to open up the truck. Several people stopped by checking to see if Ricky's was open and were all just as surprised as I was that they weren't. All's well that ends well - I found a better food truck on the other side of the street (Danny's Food Truck, check out my review) that was open and luckily had tacos! Even though my first experience with Ricky's wasn't great, I was still determined to try the food. I visited Ricky's that Thursday and they were open! Their menu is tiny, about 5 -10 items to try. Yall, let me tell you. I'm a very patient person and I exercise even more patience for those in the food or service industry - I know it can be stressful and customers can be awful. The lady taking the orders had a stank face the entire time she took my order. This lady had zero personality and made it seem like she was annoyed I was even bothering her. I got my receipt after I placed my order and threw it away out of habit. Little did I know that receipt would be the ticket to getting my food once my order was ready. I was the ONLY person in line but the guy who gave me my food said he needed the ticket to verify it was my order. I told him it threw it away and he just looked at me. So, there I go to dig my balled up receipt out of the trash and when I come back he hits me with "oh its ok, I asked her". SMH. The lady was sitting right next to us watching the entire conversation so I don't know why she couldn't vouch for me BEFORE I went dumpster diving. The tacos were just ok at Ricky's.
