He was very friendly and professional to do business with today. Everything is so much fresher than in the grocery store. I never knew there were so many different kinds of apples! We didn't want the day to go waste so that's when I found Phillips, a pick your own fruit farm. It was a Wednesday afternoon at around 1 pm so the place was pretty empty. I can see the lot getting filled on weekends though, especially since it didn't seem that big. First, you check in. There's a board that tells you what fruit is available for picking for the day, as well as the price per pound. If you pick a fruit that's not in season, you'll have to pay extra. But don't worry - the groves that aren't ready yet have signs by them to remind you. Next, you let them know what you want to pick and you either get a large bag (for the larger fruit) or you can buy a small plastic container (25 cents) or large bucket ($2) for berry picking. There is a sign that warns you that if you pick a bucket full of berries, it will end up costing $50. I think that's a nice reminder because you can definitely go pick-happy in the fields and it will add up very quickly, before you even know it. We decided to go with elderberries, peaches, and plums. I wasn't a fan of the elderberries but I'm glad I tried them since I'd never had them before. The peaches and plums were amazing though. I don't normally like plums because they're too tart, but not these! We spent about $25, which I don't think is terrible. Plus, there is no entrance or parking fee like other farms have so at least you save on that too. They have apples ramping up for the fall now. It's a bit of a drive for us but I had a really nice experience so I may consider making the trek again.

Let's bring this one up to the current:…read more Anyone who is local to the area can tell you that Scholl goes way, way back. Their roadside stand on Center Street (512) has sort of always been there even if it's almost so small that you could very easily drive right by it. What do they carry? A little bit of everything. While most items are obviously seasonal other things like apples, pears, potatoes, local honey and squash are sold more or less year-round. www.schollorchards.com/harvest-calendar For me the best of the best with honors is that they still continue to produce their non-pasteurized apple cider. Fantastic flavor and they grow more than enough varieties that the blend is always a little different based on what they used for that batch. Three more noteworthy additions: Contrary to the Yelp listing, they do indeed take cards. The parking situation here is always a bit of a crapshoot. Maybe four or five spaces and in season it's interesting at best trying to maneuver in/out with the heavy traffic on this section of Center Street. The pricing for their stuff is definitely not cheap. If you're looking for "deals" or more discounted pricing like you can get by going to Berks/Lancaster County Mennonite/Amish farms for similar products, you're not getting that here. It's expensive, but it's worth it. Either way, Scholl has been churning it out for almost eighty years and clearly, they know what they're doing and it's more than worth a regular visit. www.schollorchards.com/hours
