After my very short visit to plant city historic district. I needed to decide where to eat! I got so dizzy cuz someone forgets they have new limitations. I been going but her to butcher to find one i like best or has different n exotics options. By far this one has a nice variety in both regular to "exotics" they had Elk n alligator meat in the small freezer by the door. I totally forgot to ask them if they dabbled in ostrich meat n eggs. I will ask next time. I ordered the large cuban sandwich n omg! It was like eating a whole package of meat slices between bread lol so freaking delicious! I added the stuffed potatoes which didn't make it home and the cinnamon rolls. $2.99 with maple frosting. Soooo freaking gooood! I also added two brewed colas from the fridge. Oh yeah n they sell bones to! I got 3 beef bones cut in halves. Made delicious bone marrow butter. Ate the hell outa it. Im keeping the bones to process into art. Bones are great for big dogs to. Just slow roast them n dry em up, the dogs will love u. The gentleman sold them to me for $3lb. Freaking huge bones to. Im currently debating my next visit. I didn't notice the very obvious bbq grill smoke food truck literally inside their property lol im blind like a bat without my glasses lol i think during the week days is the best time to go there. YALL. YALLLLLLLLLL. I'm from North Carolina and love my BBQ & fresh meats! I visited a week ago and got chicken breast and ground chuck/sirloin and I am honestly so excited about this place. The people are some of the nicest I've ever experienced! And the BBQ out front....I'm still drooling! I got their homemade jerky and beef sticks today along with my meat order and I'm never buying store purchased jerky or sticks again. Everything gets shipped in on different days of the week. If you don't see what you're looking for you can just ask. Rick went into the back to cut the Pork Loin the way we wanted it and when we saw it we ..................... "GASPED" and couldn't believe how it looked. It was the most beautiful piece of meat we have ever seen. ~~~~~~~~ THE PORK LOIN ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We made a Pork Loin from here that was absolutely delicious. We have a turkey pan and rack that we used for it. It came out moist and tender. It had a hint of a turkey flavor like a real turkey you would roast in the oven for hours on Thanksgiving or Christmas. We made our own wet rub and it was full of aromatics turned into a paste that had great flavor that was super simple to make and we slit a couple of holes to stuff inside on top of the the pork loin and rubbed it all around. THE SHRIMP ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The shrimp wasn't peeled and deveined so we had to do it ourselves but the way the dish came out, the shrimp was the star of the show. Rick's Custom Meats seems to be one of the best kept secrets for most folks on the east side of Tampa, as when I tell my fellow Tampa foodies about it, they've rarely heard of it. Rick's an outstanding custom butcher shop, offering up a huge selection of quality cuts of beef, pork, sausage, poultry and lamb. They offer everything from single servings cut the way you want them, all they way up to complete sides of beef, fully prepped for your freezer storage (or any size order in between). Take a deer in season? Rick's will fully dress and pack it for you. In fact, I'm guessing if it walks, crawls, flies or swims, there's a good chance Rick can get it for you. They usually have fresh jumbo shrimp, grouper and snapper. I've regularly seen gator and other exotic meats in stock, definitely many hard to find items for the Tampa area. All the staff is super friendly and quick & eager to help. In addition to a great butcher shop, Rick's a nice deli offering up tasty sandwiches. The store is nicely decorated and has a few tables to dine-in on one of their half a dozen specialty Cuban sandwiches, or a custom sandwich made from their wide range of meats in stock. Add some soup, chips, and a Southern style sweet tea and you're good to go. And make sure you leave room for a large bowl of their homemade banana puddin'. And yes, that's the correct spelling for anyone in the south, so deal with it. In addition, Rick has his own jerky freshly made from the wide range of meats he has in stock, and I've had everything from his standard meats to venison to an excellent jerk gator jerky. It's so fresh it's refrigerated, so you'll need to toss it in your fridge or finish drying it at home. But if you're like me, it won't last long, so the fridge works for me just fine. If there's a single downside to Rick's, it's that he often runs out of certain cuts and types of meats as the week progresses. So if you know you have a particular need for that week, they advise calling in on Monday to insure they will have your order in stock and ready for you when you arrive.
