The receptionists were very efficient, got me checked in and seated quickly.. handed me a form to fill out. Funny thing was it had those #2 pencil circles like a sat test where you fill in the circle in pencil for your choice. This office is pretty busy because theres a long wait to be seen. I was warned in advance that this would be the case. Once I was in the room to be seen a super nice tech took me back for x-rays. When Dr. Blank finally came in to see me he was pleasant and had some good options for how to handle my issue.

When I called to get an appt I immediately received an email to create an account in My Chart, which I did. What is going on in a huge medical practice when you make an appt only to find out you haven't? I work full time also and had scheduled right after I made the appt to leave work at noon so I could go home and get a bite to eat before I had to go across town. I am 66 yrs and have NEVER scheduled an appt at any Drs office only to find out it was NEVER put in the system. Incompetence....

He explained his decision making process and recommendation for surgery during our first visit, and continued to provide helpful information through the months leading to physical therapy. Once in physical therapy, it seemed like my ankle was in much better condition than expected and had decent mobility, meaning we could progress quicker in the recovery and PT process. I have no doubt that this quick progress was entirely thanks to Dr. Brown's surgical intervention and post-op recommendations. At least 2 physical therapists also commented that they often observed comparatively good or great surgical outcomes in Dr. Brown's patients. OrthoVA is also great. I limped into an OrthoVA clinic on a Tuesday and was in surgery with Dr. Brown within 2 days of the injury. Nurses were kind and the staff helpful. Several have noted Dr. Brown's "bedside manner". I encourage you to ignore these reviews. I am not an easy patient, am an anxious person, and asked a lot of questions. Dr. Brown is direct and blunt, but communicates clearly and in good faith. He always answered my questions to the best of his ability. I never felt Dr. Brown was arrogant, dismissive, or disinterested. In summary - did I add Dr. Brown to the group chat? Are we going to the bar next week? No. But I did not go to the orthopedist to hang out. Dr. Brown is an excellent surgeon with an excellent education from top-tier medical schools with sufficient, even good communication. Listen to his advice, do what he says post-op, and you will have as good an outcome as possible. Again, I am genuinely glad to have had him as my doctor.

So tell your practice that you don't like the clinic setting and all you want to do is surgery, so you can stop inflicting your personal unhappiness and disdain for people in pain but not needing surgery on old ladies like my mother. Seriously I have been to a lot of doctors but I've never experienced anything like this with arm waving and borderline hostility about just being there. She had foot pain and went to Ortho on call, which referred her to this provider for follow up. We went as instructed only for Dr. Brown to scold my elderly mom for being there. My mom didn't deserve the terrible, frankly unprofessional bedside manner and she was practically in tears on the drive home.

While she wasn't taking any new patients, they were able to fit me in with Dr. Melson. I was nervous because I was already coming from a not great dermatology situation and couldn't find any information about her. I'm here to tell you Dr. Melson is amazing. This dermatology office is located on the second floor of a building that houses other doctor offices. There was a lot of easy free parking out front. The wait time wasn't insane, but I felt like I waited a bit longer than expected. There were also a lot of patients in the waiting room. I came to this office for a very inflamed cyst. The nurse who took my information was beyond sweet. When Dr. Melson came in, she was straight to the point, but she felt like she had the time of day for me. She was super kind and patient explaining the incision and drainage process to me. I also loved that I didn't feel judged when I needed to call my mom in the middle of the appointment to ask her about a medical history question. When I told her my antibiotic concerns, she worked with me to find the best medication. During the procedure when I asked to pause she was very receptive to this. I am so grateful that she helped.

I think that I like The Foot Center. I went to the office in Colonial Heights to get a second…read moreopinion. The doctor that I saw was named John Swangim. I also took my father to see John. My father loved John who removed corns/calluses from his feet. He experienced immediate relief and could walk without limping. John also suggested a larger width shoe for my dad to wear, special compression socks and the need to wear footwear in the house and suggested certain brands of shoes for my dad to wear. John printed out checklist for the shoes as well as providing a written list of stores in the Richmond area that carry these particular shoes. I had an extremely hard time finding those shoes because my dad's feet are so small. Eventually, I found a pair that fit and my Dad is very pleased. I went to John because I thought I had plantar warts. John took great care of me as well suggesting things that I could do to alleviate the pain caused by these calluses and corns on my feet and confirmed that I did not have plantar warts. He also suggested that I try out laser treatments for 6 weeks to determine if this treatment would help with the overall health of my feet due to walking on concrete floors at work and arthritis in my feet. I misunderstood the purpose of the laser treatment, thinking that it was some type of procedure done with laser to remove the roots of the calluses in the ball of my feet to stop the pain when I walk. I found the bedside manner of the technician, Mary, to be rather brusque and defensive. She took issue with my questions, concerns and statements by accusing me of saying that she was unqualified to do her job and opened the door so that she would have witnesses concerning my negative behavior toward. Her manner caused me great stress and I ended up in tears. It was a very stressful time for me. Of course, after I began crying she changed her tune quickly. After I went for the second appointment, I decided not to go anymore. My chiropractor provides the same services and is extremely kind and caring, always ready to answer my questions outside of the box. I am very knowledgeable about my body, my issues and how I respond to pain. I always ask many questions. It seemed to me that Mary had a nice, memorized script to explain the procedure that she provided, giving little opportunity to talk and discuss my out of box situation. She seemed irritated that I would interrupt her presentation by chiming in with questions for clarification. I learned nothing new from her and unfortunately, did not feel comfortable to speak very much for fear of offending her again. She was not interested in learning about my medical history. She just wanted to say what she had to say. When she made suggestions for items to purchase and exercises to do that would help improve the health of my feet, I asked for a printout or list of items recommended for purchase as well as instructions for the exercises being suggested, explicitly stating that I would not remember the item names and needed instructions for the exercises and I would need to do my research as I am always open to new ideas. Mary did not provide the requested items. The experience was stressful and I felt very rushed. It is unfortunate that Mary is the only technician who provides this laser treatment for the three locations of The Foot Center so I will have no opportunity to meet and work with another person.

She explained everything in a way that was easy to understand and for an incredibly scary situation put my mind at ease as much as possible. She is incredibly personable but will tell you how it is, when need be. I appreciate her honest approach to my care and keeping me in the know. She has done everything possible to help me keep this baby and I credit her with me making it as far as I have (35 weeks and counting!!), when originally I was expecting an extremely preterm baby. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Lanni!!!

Dr. Lanni was compassionate but no nonsense. She talked to me about my baby's 50/50 chance of having a major issue or being fine. She was with me every step of the way, did my amnio, tons of ultrasounds, answered questions any time I had them, and thank God my baby's hygroma resolved at 20 weeks and today I have a perfectly healthy 1 month old baby girl. Without Dr. Lanni, her excellent nurse Karen and kind, compassionate office staff who always remembered me when I came, I think I may have lost it during this stressful pregnancy. She made what was a stressful time easier to bear, and she is top notch in her expertise and knowledge of maternal and fetal medicine. HIGHLY RECC Dr Lanni!! It was also my first time ever going to the ER. I was moved to a curtained communal waiting area, where my experience changed dramatically. From that point forward, I received very little attention from the nursing staff. No one checked on me or provided updates unless I got up and asked. I had to initiate everything, from getting instructions for a urine sample to asking for updates on pending results. It felt like a self-service situation, with minimal support for someone in a vulnerable state. Around an hour later or maybe two, Dr. Gatewood, who was kind, thorough, and communicative did stop by and explained all the CT scan and bloodwork results. This helped ease my concerns. There was one test remaining that he couldn't go over which resulted in me waiting additional hours. Around 11:00 PM, I received an email saying my discharge was being processed, before I had seen a second provider. Shortly after that, Dr. Ross Kalman came in. He introduced himself and quickly reviewed some test findings, focusing on one result without offering a full explanation. I asked questions to better understand what could be causing the bleeding, and his response was, "We only deal with emergencies here." That comment felt dismissive, especially after waiting nearly five hours. I wasn't frustrated at not having a diagnosis, I was seeking clarity, and this was my only opportunity to ask. I also brought up dehydration, something I've dealt with in the past, and requested IV fluids. Dr. Kalman denied the request, saying my labs looked fine. However, in his discharge notes, he incorrectly wrote that I denied oral fluids , I was never even offered any. In reality, he told me to "continue doing what you've been doing," which was vague and unhelpful. As our conversation ended, he said, "You look disappointed," and walked away. That's when I began to feel physically overwhelmed. I started to hyperventilate and that's when nurse Alexis eventually noticed and came to help me calm down. I stood up, intending to leave, but my legs gave out. I didn't yell or act aggressively , I simply became physically unwell. With all that being said, I was told this is a panic attack which I have never experienced. I'm in shocked why vitals were never checked, and how Dr. Kalman never returned or followed up. What's most concerning is how the episode was documented. His discharge summary described me as "verbally aggressive," "yelling," and said I "threw myself on the floor." None of this is true. The interaction happened privately, and no one else -- including multiple nurses, techs, and Dr. Gatewood, had any issues with me throughout my visit. Dr. Kalman did not examine me during or after this incident, yet made assumptions in his notes that were both exaggerated and inaccurate. As part of standard protocol, Dr. Kalman would have been aware of what happened yet he never came back to check on me. This whole incident is not just unprofessional and it's unacceptable. To make matters worse, my primary care doctor never received any record of this ER visit. That lack of communication is alarming, and reflects the broader issue of poor follow-through and documentation. This visit left me feeling unsupported and misrepresented at a time when I needed clarity and care. I'm sharing my experience so others can be aware of how important it is to advocate for themselves in medical settings, and how quickly a vulnerable moment can be misunderstood when compassion and attention are missing.
