If you have time because you'll need it and your family comes from Virginia this is a good place to find information. The staff is friendly and helpful giving you pointers, they can lead you to locating information. I was able to find a document from the early 1800s regarding the marriage of my ancestors, it was amazing. This Library offers more than just books for you to view it offers a window into history, life and Virginia the good and the bad.

It's right on Westover Hills Blvd. near Devonshire rd. ***EXPERIENCE*** I always have a good experience here. It's an easy spot to walk or bike to. They have a good amount of bike lock space and a little parking lot behind it. The librarians who work here are very kind and helpful. It's a smaller library, but has most of the good stuff (at least in regards to what I'm trying to read). Like all libraries, you can put a book on hold or have a book sent to this library if it's not at this location. They have computers for their online catalog. They also have quite a few computers you can log into for personal use. This library is a great spot to get some work done or (surprise) read a book. I love all the natural lighting that spills into this space. ***PRICE*** It's free! It's a library. If no one has a hold on the book you're borrowing it'll automatically renew. ***BATHROOM*** There are single all gendered stalls you can use that are clean. ***CONCLUSION*** I love this library for its librarians, its space, and its books!

Whenever I come here, I adore exploring the front "hot and new" books section. It has to be my all-time favorite front section of any library I've been too. This place is huge. There is tons of seating to read or get work done at. There are also a lot of private rooms you are able to rent upstairs for meetings. It's very modern here. A few of my favorite things here right now are: - The try a new hobby bookshelf with books on crochet, knitting, gardening and more - The pie bookshelf filled with cook books on pie making - The book club bags with multiple copies of a book for your book club You gotta come here, it's really great! It was usually…read moreopen 24 hours a day back when I was a student, and I watched many sunrises and sunsets from the second floor silent section. There are two basement levels with reference sections, the ground floor, and the second floor up the dramatic lobby staircase. In the entrance to the building is a small coffee shop called 8:15, originally named after the earliest classes offered at UR (although now classes begin at 7:30). It has Starbucks coffee products, pastries, and some other small snack items for sale. They accept cash, card, and UR dining dollars. Food and drink is allowed in most parts of the library, and you'll often see students order pizza or Jimmy Johns to the ground floor. The basement levels are typically quiet or silent study only, as are parts of the second floor. This is taken very seriously, so you should not even whisper or open a packet of chips in silent areas. If you need to collaborate with a group or use A/V equipment, study rooms are available to be scheduled at the front desk. While it is accessible to the public during the day, please do be respectful of the fact that this is one of the primary places for students to study on campus, and that they should be prioritized. It was incredibly frustrating when I wasn't able to find a seat or the library was loud and messy because of non-students using it as a hangout spot.

They are friendly, efficient, helpful and definitely more pleasant than the university kids sleeping in the booths or hiding behind dry eraser boards. The library itself is like a museum: clean, bright, organized and wide open. It is a terrible place to crash in the evening to catch some zzzz because the pedestrian traffic keeps your head spinning. The people watching potential is off the charts. We have got some strange humans walking amongst us! If someone wants to educate themselves on any topic, this library is the place to do it. I consider Cabell Library my 2nd home. Any day the front desk personnel will kiss me when they see me to welcome me hone.

Swem knows what it's doing, ladies and gentlemen, and that's even without funding out the wazoo like your hoity-toity private school down the interstate might enjoy. If you're looking for a place to work, study, or play, Swem is it. The teacher was very involved and I loved all the toys that they brought out for the kiddos after the story time.
