When I applied for coverage online, they gave me a prorated rate. Since insurance companies can electronically check your driving history, I expected the quoted price to be accurate. Instead, in the second month they sent me a notice saying my policy would increase. The following month, they raised my payment by almost $150. I decided to cancel, but when I did, they told me they had taken a prorated amount from the second month and added it to the month I was canceling. Because of this, I didn't receive a refund for the full amount I had already paid. None of this was stated in any written document--only explained verbally after the fact. Avoid this company at all costs.

One is moving to Washington, DC and will be using public transportation, and the other is living in Europe for the year. Neither drives or needs auto coverage. Elephant refused to remove them unless I could provide proof that they have insurance with another provider. This is an unreasonable and blatant premium-retention policy that forces customers to pay for unnecessary coverage. I was also told this practice is approved by the State of Virginia, which is difficult to reconcile with its clearly anti-consumer impact. Given this, my only option is to cancel my policy. I would not recommend Elephant Insurance.
