I decided to cancel, but when I did, they told me they had taken a prorated amount from the second month and added it to the month I was canceling. Because of this, I didn't receive a refund for the full amount I had already paid. None of this was stated in any written document--only explained verbally after the fact. But they wanted me to get a rental from Hertz in Pikesville, MD which is about an hour away, does this make sense? The answer is no, but would be fully reimbursed. To be safe I opted for the CDW coverage only to find out today, they don't pay for that. That's fine, but why wasn't I told about that? Moral is, they lied. As a person who deals with insurance companies and orders parts for customer's vehicles daily, Elephant is amongst the worst. They do not honor their original, approved estimates for the repair shop or the customer. They continuously change estimates throughout the repair process in order to save the company money. So imaging getting an approved estimate for all original equipment parts: headlamps, bumpers, brackets etc. and after the parts has been ordered and installed, the estimate is changed to a used or aftermarket parts that now show to be available after the fact, and it is always a 50/50 that they chose the correct part. Their customer service is not available and conveniently closed during business hours and you cannot edit your information online to cancel your policy. They make it virtually impossible for you to cancel your autopay. Further, my rate doubled at renewal though I had no tickets, no accidents nor change of address. There were no changes, yet it doubled! Now, I know what Jaime M. (customer service chat bot) is going to say,: "We are sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied. Large, smelly, and will crush you if given the chance. I had Elephant for a few days before I read some of the underwriting, and ooh boy that's some sketchy stuff, even for an insurance company. So naturally I cancelled, and Elephant is not lying when they say they will get your funds back to you in 7 to 10 business days. Apparently these folks don't understand how escrow works. They probably need the money more than I do, but all other reputable insurance companies actually manage the refund aspect and get it off their books pretty quickly. The absolute worst experience I see why their insurance is cheap. One of their clients hit my car. I should receive a payroll check because I did all the coordinating from the auto body shop to the rental car place and had to argue with them people to pay for all this and extend the rental car since they were debating with the body shop on what they would cover. I had a recording as proof that their client hit my parked car. We happened to catch the guy as he was adjusting his vehicle which by the way caused more damage like damn common sense would tell you if you hit someone you should stop not keep bumping down the side of the vehicle it was in a parking lot so it wasn't as though he needed to slam brakes to keep from causing more damage. Forced us to use a rental car company we've never had a good experience with when the car had to go into the shop for three-week minimum body repairs, and claims adjuster Barker has now demanded the rental car be returned one week later because the body shop couldn't immediately assess the full extent of the damage during a local pandemic surge that coincided with the last week of the year--which is when most people use their vacation time. Refuses to extend coverage even once body shop sends the paperwork today. Also, while other reputable insurance companies were rebating customers during the pandemic closures because there was literally nowhere to go, Elephant didn't so much as make a token gesture. Shady business practices that, frankly, make me wonder whether my husband is being taken advantage of because of his disability. (Sadly, it happens a lot, especially over the last year.) As we have only one car, we will now be out the cost of rideshares to get my husband to/from work for the entirety of the repairs. And since we may not be able to continue to afford that, there's a chance my husband may have to call in for the better part of a month at a time when the average person is least able to afford that. I have been with Elephant for almost 4 years. I don't discount the other reviews, but they were pretty good to us. My husband has had a wreck a year and they always took care of things efficiently. Customer service was pleasant and did their job. We were hit by another car, full speed at an intersection last year and after that our rates did go up off the charts. I wasn't shocked, but I can get better rates even with the former accidents and so we are moving on. I made my payment a few days after my payment date when most Insurance companies give you a 10 day grace period. Second incident I needed to utilize the roadside assistance I purchased with you this morning and it took 3 calls and 5 hours total for someone to come. There was no one on Elephants side attempting to take accountability and followup to see if our issue was resolved, nor track the vendor to see if they arrived. I ended up having to call a Lyft to take me to work. I feel that my Family could have easily been stranded on the side of the road, and it would not have made the least bit of difference to Elephant Insurance as long as they got their payment ON TIME. I switched from a company I was with for 5 years and switching again won't make me a bit of difference. Well, I was excited when I first signed up with Elephant, which had a paid in full annual rate just slightly more than my 6-month premium anywhere else, nearly cutting my monthly insurance bill in half. I did wonder if this might reflect some financial backing or customer service issues with a claim, but since I just have PPL for my $1000 car, I figured it wouldn't ever really matter to me. So, for my birthday, I drove to the state where I went to school to visit some friends. While there, I discovered that my rear differential had fallen apart. Since it wasn't safe to drive back, I had to buy a replacement beater. In order to get a temporary tag in order to drive it back home, I had to have insurance. Easy, I thought. I'll call Elephant and swap one truck out for the other. I called Elephant and it was the worst hassle, ever, resulting in my canceling my policy. Basically, they told me that they don't do insurance in Michigan, so they couldn't add this vehicle because it was titled in Michigan. Uh....no. Yes, I bought the car out of state. In order to get it to my home state for registration and titling, it has to have insurance. This is not uncommon. It is easily managed by every other insurance company. One doesn't have to buy insurance in every state through which you travel: you buy it in your home state and go. But they just couldn't figure it out. The fact that it was a new sale indicated on the title, with my home address indicated on the title, for a resident in VA....boggled their mind that it was coming from somewhere else. Never have I ever. I asked for an underwriter to call me back on Monday, since, hey, these are just lackies on the phone and don't know anything about insurance. I was told there was no way for them to request a call back to me. Uh, what? You have no mechanism for a follow-up with an insured? Ok, so if they are this inept, then it's too scary to be insured with them. So I had a car in my name, and put the policy in my son's name since he was driving it solely. No agent to say hey that won't work. Now we have been harrassed by collection agencies for 11,000.00 for a year and my son and me are both going to get our licenses suspended if we don't pay.
