This is a nice hotel and surprisingly spacious when I compare it to others I've stayed in while travelling Europe. The hotel is located at the top of the hill with town downhill, so everything is walkable (about 10-15min walk from hotel, just remember you are going uphill the way back!) and the walk is quite nice overlooking beautiful grassy vistas. My only minor complaint aligns with a fellow reviewer that the thermostat in the room doesn't actually let you control anything, seems someone else controls it and it just reads the temp. It wasn't a huge deal during my stay, but the room did get a bit stuffy at times so I would just leave the windows open. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! The room was cozy, and the housekeeping was superb. We had everything we needed at all times. The hotel restaurant is exceptional. I highly recommend the afternoon tea - it was beyond delightful. All of our meals were excellent from breakfast to dinner, when we dined w/ the hotel. The location can't be beat. We walked to restaurants, pubs, shops and took in the scenery by the river. It was truly the perfect place to call our home base during our trip! read more

This was my first time at this hotel, and I tried out their main restaurant for dinner. They had so many great items on their menu, so I tried a few that I highly recommend. For their appetizers, try their Inglewhite goat's cheese if you lean more towards savory. If you like a balance of sweets, then I recommend their Pistachio Wild Duck Pate. The main dish I ordered was their Pan-Roasted Sea Bass which came with great sides. They have a variety of drinks at the bar. It took me a while to narrow down my choices, so I got the Rose Gin Spritz cocktail and the Citrus martini. The Rose Gin Spritz cocktail is definitely on the fizzier side and comes very cold but with a cute garnish. The Citrus martini was so good that I almost ordered another one. And for dessert, I couldn't say no to trying their Lemon Balm Meringue Knickerbocker. I couldn't finish the whole thing myself, but I challenge you to try. 10/10 would go there again. read more

Richmond is this quaint little town that does not have a lot of hotel options unless you don't mind commuting which I did not want to. This is one of the 2 hotels that has a gym and they both have access to the same gym actually. This is by far the better hotel of the two. Good breakfast which came with the room charge. Friendly employees too and I enjoyed my stay. It is a nice walk down the hill to get to town. One nit...no lotion in the room. We are not allowed to carry it on the plane, would be nice if the hotel gave us some. read more

Really bad hotel. NOT what they advertise. Hot water isn't working in the entire hotel, they aren't accomodating nor helpful in resolving their mistakes. Layout is like a maze. Messed up my booking, tiny rooms, no closet space, overall extremely poor quality and customer service. read more

Try's to be prestigious but loosing the luster. Rooms are tiny with very limited space. It's an old building to small is expected but could have better layout and more places to put stuff. Heater/AC unit is controlled by the front desk and you have to ask more than once to adjust it. Wifi drops multiple times and you reconnect daily. read more

What a lovely four star hotel with the stunning view oversee the Richmond park opposite to the hotel. It is also next to the park entrace, so great to drop by for afternoon tea after chilling in the park. it is much easier to find car park too compared to those venues inside the park. I came here for a wedding afternoon tea of my friend's . The ballroom is peaceful with a little touch of green. Very high ceiling , so good for major event. There are 100ppls in the room and still have plenty of space. Enjoyed my tea here! read more

The hotel itself is located within a mile's walk from the Richmond tube station which would be fine if it wasn't all uphill. That being said, the single room reminded me of my days as a freshman sharing a dorm room with my hippie roommate. For $17 more a day, you can get upgraded to a proper Standard room which seems nearly double in size. If you're traveling by yourself, this should be fine. The rooms are charming but not inspirational and there has obviously been work done to the bathrooms throughout the years. The only odd thing about showers in England is that the hot and cold water come from different spouts. WiFi is free and relatively fast, though you have to obtain a authorization code every 24 hours to maintain a connection The rack rate seems a little high for what you're getting, but the staff is nice and helpful and the rooms are clean and decently appointed. One thing that I noticed, however, is that the main elevator can fit 1.5 people max and only one person with luggage. Since this hotel is on a hill, there are a multitude of stairs even to move from one part of the hotel to the other on the same level. Reminded me of the Mystery House in San Jose with its up and down staircases that lead to no where. Breakfast was the same buffet-style Irish breakfast you see at every other English hotel except the scrambled eggs were drowning in some strange milky liquid. Not good times. And the serving plates were unbearably hot to the touch. Overall, I liked this hotel and the location is within a few minutes walk to a beautiful view of Thame's and its countryside. A few more minutes leads you to the main drag with shopping and some dining options. read more

Came here for Sunday lunch with family a few weeks ago, when there was a carvery. On offer were slad or soup starters, then chicken, pork, or beef, and to finish, an array of desserts from a menu featuring a lemon tart, assorted cheesecakes, ice creams, sorbets, etc. I couldn't knock the price. But there were a number of other points I could have a go at. We were after an early lunch; arriving at 12, the bar wasn't manned. After much pfaffing, we eventually got seated. The soup, mushroom, was pleasant but undistinguished, and was quite possibly not home made, unless home is a Campbell's factory or the catering equivalent. Plates and bowls were cold ( not something that bothers me, but it did other members of the group). The meataaaaah. I'm very much in two minds about carveries. Sitting under a heatlamp doesn't bring out the best in it. The pork was overcooked and dry, and probably wasn't going to be improved by the experience. The beef was also cremated, again not helped by the fact it looked like a fairly lean joint to begin with no such thing as rare here apparently. The desserts were pleasant enough, allowing for their obviously having also been bought in and refrigerated ( slightly soggy pastry on the tarts, for example). Sigh. Couldn't knock the price though. In sum, it brought one to mind of a good day in a minor public school canteen, or perhaps a posh nursing home. read more

Quint hotel, convenient and beautiful walk to downtown Richmond. It is uphill. I was there in late Oct/Nov and the heater didn't work in the room. Unfortunately they couldn't fix it. Luckily I don't get that cold that easily. Breakfast in the morning was bountiful and good variety. Remember, know what you are getting w/ black pudding now. It's not my cup of tea, but could be yours (and usually I'm game for anything). As far as the quality of the accommodations (other than the heat issue noted above), it seems this hotel is a bunch of bldgs stitched together. So the room I got was decently enough sized, had a good sized bath and hot water, and a small window view out to the Thames river. Service was okay, nothing to rave about. But didn't use them too much anyway. Well I did lose an umbrella, and they didn't charge me for it, because I complained that they couldn't fix my heat :). So we'll call it even. Would I stay again? Probably. Would it be my first choice? I donno, I'll have to try other locations before i can tell you that. read more

Stayed here with a group of coworkers. Everyone hated the lumpy beds. Service and cleaning were spotty. Need to daily ask the front desk for a slip of paper to get one wireless device on the free wi-fi. One co-worker was startled to find a stranger sleeping in her bed when she checked in. At breakfast they were serving coffee from a coffee machine that was not on. No safe or fridge in the small rooms. Only some rooms had the bags to request laundry service. The desk staff is friendly. It is an old hotel. It is old not in "old charm" way. Rather, "demolish and start from the scratch" way. Take stairs, open the door, another set of stairs, another hallway, a few steps down, and you are presented with a single room. Watch your knees and elbows. It was officially the smallest room £116 can buy. The mattress was lumpy and uncomfortable. It was rather breezy in the room. In part, due to persistent draft coming from the window. In part, due to the fact that bathroom had no heater. Let me repeat, bathroom had no heater. It was very refreshing in the morning with the outside temp around six degrees Celsius. You may think of warming up in a nice hot shower. Well, first you need to squeeze into that shower. I am six feet around 174lbs and even I barely made it. I made it only to discover "hot" shower is warm at best. Front desk was helpful. Breakfast was fine. Made service is mediocre at best. I will seek alt accommodation next time. read more

Hotel staff was very nice and went out of their way to do whatever you need, rooms are quaint and beds & shower are great! Food is delicious and they are happy to make whatever you want!!! The hotel manager Martin is an absolute class act!! After a hellish experience at the hotel next door the Richmond Gate, I ran here only to the best and the brightest staff!! This is the best place to stay in this area of London by far!!! read more

This is a rather odd, slightly old-fashioned hotel with very poor service. The rooms are variable quality, but tend to be well equipped but on the small side. The public rooms are scattered along the front of the hotel, and it seems a long and tortuous route between reception and the bar and restaurant areas. Service at the bar was laughable. There were three members of staff in the area, but getting a drink took ages. When I was served the staff seemed to have no knowledge of the wines that they had. Breakfast was not so good: I was seated quite quickly in a slightly raised area of the restaurant. The meal is self-service, which was just as well because it was difficult to attract the attention of any of the staff. When I was seated there were at least half a dozen tables around me with the remnants of breakfast from earlier diners. When I left, these tables were still not cleared. If the management and staff improve it might be nice, but otherwise I would avoid it. read more

I stayed here with my boyfriend for five days or so- we thought it was a very good deal, particularly for London (or Richmond, rather). We had the opportunity to stay in two rooms- one of the rooms was a bit small, but both were attractively furnished and in good shape. Pros: -The staff is lovely- very helpful and knowledgeable. -It's right across from a beautiful park and running/walking trail, and you can go right down to the Thames. -Very decent gym and pool. -Excellent sleeping amenities- quiet with comfortable beds. Cons: -Coffee is rather lackluster, although the dining room is great. I didn't partake in breakfast, so can't comment. -Our AC was broken, but was promptly fixed. I'm told that of the limited options in Richmond, this is the best. I would absolutely recommend this place. read more
