I've been taking my poodles to Dr. Richard smollin for over 10 years. I have always been very pleased with my experience. The staff is very friendly and always caution of time. I got my poodle spayed with Dr. Smollin he is a great veterinarian! Super caring and you definitely see he actually loves animals. Highly recommend! I really appreciate that it's not extremely expensive, on Tuesdays and Thursdays they hold a shot clinic so you'll get half off on vaccination. :))

I have been bringing my dog to this clinic since he was about 2 months old, and unfortunately, the quality of service has declined significantly over the years. On July 9, I brought my dog in for allergy treatment. I spent over $365 on the visit, including allergy injections, yet his condition showed little to no improvement. At checkout, I was told to bring him back for a follow-up within 14 days. My invoice clearly showed the follow-up exam fee as $0. However, when I called to schedule the follow-up, I was told I would have to pay $65. When I questioned why the invoice listed the fee as $0, no one could provide a reasonable explanation. It felt like the clinic was making up policies as they went along. Another frustrating issue was the inconsistency in how appointments are handled. During my last visit, I was suddenly told that my dog would be taken to the back and examined there instead of in the exam room with me present. I explained that this had never been their normal process during the many years I've been coming here. I even showed photos from previous visits where the veterinarian examined my dog in the exam room. I had to argue my case because they initially wanted to charge me for a doctor examination while only having a technician take my dog to the back, allegedly because they were running behind schedule. The lack of consistency, poor communication, and unexpected charges have completely eroded my trust in this clinic. As pet owners, we rely on honesty, transparency, and compassionate care. Unfortunately, I no longer feel confident that this clinic provides those things. After many years as a customer, I will be taking my dog elsewhere. I hope the clinic takes these concerns seriously because pets deserve better, and so do the families who trust them with their care.

Plus it was my Tony's (my little fur boy's) birthday yesterday. So, I am finally posting it. Even though it was a very sad day (of having to let go of our kitty), I have to say that this was an amazing clinic with an amazing staff and an incredibly humane and knowledgeable doctor. I was sooooo lucky to get her at the last moment. We've been referred by a good friend, and we called in and despite their busy schedule, they were kind enough to take us in with the last minute appointment, because our cat was in a very bad condition and our previous vet could not determine much. Jennifer was the one who answered the phone and she's been an angel from the moment we spoke to her on the phone to the moment we left the office. What a kind, compassionate human being! I don't have enough good things to say about the Doctor P who was so intelligent, experienced and did not BS around giving us false hopes or torturing our cat with extra tests/procedures (and pain and suffering along with it) to prolong his life. In a very delicate way, she confirmed what we've been suspecting for a while now and made this decision a little easier to make, even though it's never easy, no matter how ready you think you are. Anyway, the whole staff was really cool, the ones doing paperwork and also a very kind girl who was there during the final injections. In the difficult times like this, it is very important to have this kind of clinics working...

Out of nowhere, they recommended that my puppy gets a vaccine booster shot. On the basis of recommendation, we went ahead with the booster but the this office made a error in reading all the documents I provided (they did take all the coduments and made copies of them). My puppy didn't need to have another booster for a year. Spent money on unnecessary procedure and I felt so guilty for putting my puppy through a shot he didn't need. On top of that, they asked me to come back in a month later for ANOTHER BOOSTER SHOT!! They are very eager to schedule your next appointments but wasn't competent to take proper care of my puppy.

I would not recommend this place!…read more Before driving over, I called and specifically asked what the exam fee would be. I told them I was only about 15 minutes away and was coming straight in. I arrived exactly when I said I would, and the price had suddenly changed. It felt like a classic bait-and-switch. If your pricing changes at a certain time, tell the customer when they're on the phone and saying they are on the way, not after they've already arrived. When I questioned it, the manager was unprofessional and unwilling to honor the price their own staff had quoted me just minutes earlier over the phone. There was no accountability and no attempt to make the situation right. I can easily afford the difference, but that's not the point. I don't appreciate being misled. I told them I was deeply disappointed with how they handled the situation and that I would be leaving an honest review. They didn't seem to care at all. I genuinely feel bad for the owner if this is the level of customer service being provided. The worst part was that my dog was sitting there in pain while we argued over something that should have been simple.I left and went to another veterinary clinic down the street, where my dog was seen within minutes and received excellent care. If a business won't stand behind the price they quote over the phone, it's hard to trust them with anything more important. I imagine their final bill would have been ridiculous. Thankfully, I didn't stay long enough to find out. I won't be returning, and I hope this review saves someone else from wasting their time.

The last thing you want when your fur baby is suffering is to reach voicemail after voicemail. Hearing a compassionate human voice on the other end of the phone brought me so much comfort. She came to my home first thing the next morning. I was worried about my younger Golden Retriever jumping on her or interfering with her care, but she was absolutely wonderful with both of my dogs. She encouraged him to stay in the room with us once he was comfortable with her, and I truly believe that helped him understand what was happening. She was incredibly professional, but I'll never forget one small moment. Out of the corner of my eye, while I was saying my final words and paying my last tributes to my girl, I saw her quietly wiping tears from her eyes. As a healthcare provider myself, I know how often we're expected to wear a mask and stay composed. Seeing that genuine emotion didn't make her seem less professional, it reassured me that she truly cared. In those final moments, your mind races. You question whether you're making the right decision. Seeing her emotion gave me peace because I knew she wasn't simply going through the motions. I knew that if she believed my girl wasn't ready, she would have told me. Most of us are fortunate enough to experience this kind of heartbreak only a few times in our lives. She carries families through it over and over again. That takes an incredible amount of compassion. Thank you for your kindness, your empathy, and for helping my sweet Lilo leave this world peacefully and with dignity. Please take care of yourself, too. The first photo is the day Oliver met Lilo as a puppy, their first photo together. The second was taken just before the veterinarian arrived to help Lilo pass. I didn't realize until later that I had unknowingly captured both the beginning and the end of their story together I will miss my Lilo for eternity.

This is not my first review of our beloved Dr G, and I just recommended her to 6 more people again just these past 2 weeks. I always say to people I give her card to: "you will discover she is an Earth Angel - if she moved to a different town, I'd take my pup there... When you find a great vet, they are Gold! She's not only compassionate, present and knowledgeable, but also she does not oversell." Besides all the regular check ups, Dr G. has performed 2 substantial surgeries on my pup in the last 8 years, and has been extremely kind, providing valuable reassuring step-by-step updates throughout, especially aware that I had lost my beloved first dog, (with a different vet), when he did not make it through the anesthesia... In the 8 years Dr G. has been our one and only vet; everyone I have sent to Dr G. has fallen in love with her, and has thanked me for the referral. I trusted Dr G and her small compassionate team with the euthanasia of my precious second dog, Handsome. She is truly an Angel on Earth. At her Chatsworth location, I love that she's created a lovingly cozy "home environment" for the euthanasia experience. That it so needed during that deeply emotional time, and more veterinary offices ought to follow her example. I found her many years ago when I was dissatisfied with a busy veterinary front desk in Sherman Oaks, after they had made errors in my first dog's chart. Unfortunately he passed, and I learned that finding the RIGHT professional truly makes ALL the difference. So yes, I drive from Sherman Oaks. Gratefully so :) I am thankful that my cherished pups are her patients. Her ethics, her care, her kindness, her knowledge, her integrity - she's our number 1!!!

She examined him & performed various treatments (acupuncture, massage, Assisi loop, etc), but mostly she spent time educating me on how I could care for him better & understand what might be causing him discomfort. I've worked at an animal hospital for over 20 years & am super fortunate to have access to great veterinary care. My dog has a primary veterinarian & I work at an emergency vet facility but Dr. Polkowski was able to offer treatments & knowledge that I wasn't even aware of. The foster group (HIT Living Foundation - wonderful people) took her from a high-kill shelter after she was found wandering the streets covered in fleas and ticks and with a lame left leg/paw. She had a brachial plexus avulsion (tearing of the nerves) and wasn't moving the paw, leg or shoulder at all. Any vet will tell you that this is a very hard injury to treat and almost always results in amputation of that leg. Also, in general, Snoop was just not in good physical shape. I found Lori through a recommendation and asked her to come evaluate Snoop after I had been fostering her for about two weeks. I was nervous at first as Snoop is very people scared and only lets my boyfriend and I touch her. Lori, with her wonderful assistant/shaman, Hector (I am not a particularly mystical person but Hector has some super calming influence over animals - even my cat came right up to him and into his lap so I will call him shaman!) came to my home (all covid protocols in) and coaxed Snoop out of her shell and started treating her. Snoop has been getting acupuncture, laser, chiropractic adjustments and B12 shots all from Lori. Snoop looks forward to the visits and is always excited when they come. Also, Lori has trained me quite a bit and I do simple physical therapy exercises with Snoop throughout the week and give Snoop supplements. Honestly all easy stuff that takes about 20 minutes a day. Lori checks in in us regularly and we've now been working with her for about 6 weeks. And the results...Snoop is a different dog. She just started using her shoulder again and regaining some of the feeling in her leg although she still can't walk on it. But she is now full of energy and running around and navigating on three legs quite nicely. She's healthy and filled out and a puppy again. She also can pick up her leg more so she's not dragging the paw around all the time and I don't have to wrap in the house or backyard (only for walks or when we leave). Even if she doesn't regain full use of that leg/paw again, it's been totally worth it. Snoop won't need it amputated and the use of her shoulder is so great. She's also just so healthy and happy now. However, our fingers and crossed and we are still working on getting that paw working. Thanks Lori!
