I've worked in health care for 30 years. I've had surgeries, chiropractic, acupuncture, PT, massage, even hypnosis (which didn't work), you name it. I've seen maybe 15 chiropractors in my life for various back and neck ailments. Half of them were no good. The other half were good and brought the ongoing relief that I needed. Dr. Piokowski is in the top of that group of excellent chiropractors. He's patient, takes extra time to explain what he is going to do, and manipulates you with only the right amount of force to adjust you. Also, he is a great guy and anyone who brings his dog to work will put you at ease right away. As an example of his focus on you, during one visit I thought I was done and headed to the exit. But something didn't feel quite right in my neck - I think it stiffened up again before I made it out the door. He immediately called me right back into the room and made the extra adjustment and asked me to wait five minutes to see if my neck was going to stiffen again. Truly focused on your health. Dr. P is the best! I've dealt with back issues a very long time. It started acting up again last spring/summer when I injured my ankle (getting old sucks - I'm falling apart!), so in desperation I started looking for a chiropractor. Past clinics I'd gone to would want me doing herbal/meditation/stretches and crap and never seemed to just tell me straight what the problem was. Not Dr. P! And I appreciate it! While seeing him last summer for my lower back, I blew out a disk jumping in a pool to fish out my kid. He straight on told me I was not going to get through this without major drugs. He later sent me for an MRI, then gave me the name of an excellent neurosurgeon who fixed me up a month later. I haven't been back to see Dr. P since my surgery, but I'm thinking I need to get back in for a tune-up (plus, we miss Mojo the dog!). Definitely 5 stars.... I was on a tear earlier this year, working out at least six days a week and running 7-8 miles per day. In late July, while sitting at home and not doing anything stressful I noticed a sharp pain in my lower back and it hurt real bad. This pain went on for a few weeks. It was excruciating pain to say the least. So much so, I stopped going to the gym for a while. At first, I was a bit timid about seeing a chiropractor but after speaking with some of my friends I decided to give it a whirl. I found Dr. P on yelp, yes yelp and talk about a success story. This was my first time EVER going to a chiropractor. I had pulled a muscle in my back from shoveling snow and caused to be in a spasm. I had no choice but to go and needed someone fast in the area. After reading their reviews and finding out they accept United Healthcare, I setup my appointment. There was no wait pretty much. He made me feel very comfortable. And very professional. He could tell what was wrong with me just from an explanation of my pain and looking at me. No X-rays needed. During my first treatment and adjustments, I never experienced any pain. He made sure I was relaxed. Even the dreaded neck crack was so much easier than I thought. At the end of that evening I felt SO much better just after the initial treatment. I had originally gone to Dr. P with a online coupon then returned after a accident I had. I was in a 4 car pile-up on Little River Turnpike mid March which left my vehicle with over $7k in damages and my back/neck very sore for weeks. The treatment went as planned. I was in-and-out in less than 30 minutes. But his office is a little old and so is the equipment. And he has a dog which if you're allergic to pets(i wasn't) it may be an issue. If you need a chiro or were in a accident, go to Dr. P. The report he typed up for my lawyers office was VERY detailed but it did take longer than usual. What can I say?? OMG so much!! I'm just super happy and grateful to find doctor Richard! I started feeling sciatica like pain down my leg little over 2 years ago and that worsen over time. I went to see an orthopedic got some X-Rays done just to be told everything looked normal. I did 6 Weeks physical therapy and didn't help much. After getting an MRI done I was told nothing serious but a minor disk bulge that should not be causing this level of pain. I end up having pain on my right arm/shoulder same side as the leg and didn't know what to think. I went to a neurologist and after a brain MRI, EKG still nothing was found. After that I was referred to a pain specialist who gave me a steroid shot on my lower back saying it had to be the disk bulge because that's the only thing he could see in the MRI report even though it shouldn't be causing this much pain. I suggested that maybe it was SI joint dysfunction but he said he didn't think so. The steroid shot didn't help so I declined to take a second one! We did a sacrolumbar X-Rays and was told all was normal! I went through hell and thought I was losing it. I almost gave up and thought I would just live with this awful pain that hindered me from working out and doing things I enjoy. Last resort I was like I will try a chiropractor and that's it because I was tired of going to doctors all the time, endless money being spent and no results. After looking through Yelp I found Dr Richard and given all the good reviews I decided to give it a try. After I went to see him the first time, my pain was 80% gone!! I was like holy shit! I got home literally dancing and so happy I was finally getting somewhere. Now after few more sessions I am pretty much healed and just taking it easy since I lived with this for little over 2 years. This was my first ever visit to a chiropractor. I'm one of those guys that avoids going to the doctor unless I think it is absolutely necessary. Had a mysterious pain in my left hamstring that I could not attribute to any activity. It kind of just appeared one day...and it would NOT go away. Gradually it got worse and worse over the course of a month. At first, it would hurt every time I stood up, and then it started to hurt on and off all the time --- sitting, standing, walking and laying down. At times the pain was so bad it made my eyes water. I thought maybe I had a pinched nerve. I was taking more and more Advil to help make it bearable. Seeing my GP would have been a waste of time. I knew that I needed an excellent chiropractor. As usual, I turned to the YELP community for assistance. Dr Rich had glowing reviews from his loyal patients. I knew that he could help me after reading what other YELPERS had to say about him Dr Rich asked me some questions, did an examination of my posture and located my problem areas quickly. He treated me with some electrical muscle stimulation, a spinal and neck adjustment and a hardcore massage of affected areas. He explained each treatment and let me know what to expect. He also gave me some exercises I needed to perform to help heal my leg problem and improve my lower back. After the first treatment I immediately noticed improvement. With each day the pain lessened. After the 2nd treatment ( 5 days later) more improvement, and I was about 80% pain free. After the 3rd treatment (7 days later) I am about 95% pain free and almost completely back to normal. I have another session tomorrow and am hoping this will be the final one for this issue. After this session I'll continue to see Dr Rich for spinal and neck adjustments as recommended or necessary. The benefit of going in for this mystery pain in my leg is realizing how much better I feel after the adjustments --- more energy, better sleep, better breathing, etc, etc. I wish I had done this ages ago. For the past year or so, I have been having horrible back pain that comes & goes. At the beginning of this week, my back pain was so bad that each step I took made me want to cry. I avoided going to the doctor for two reasons. #1. I have horrible, uncontrollable anxiety when it comes to any medical treatment (doctor, dentist...whatever). #2. I was sure that any Urgent Care doctor would just give me some kind of pain meds and not actually TREAT the issue. THIS was a major factor because I dont think masking pain with narcotics solves anything & frankly, I just wont take unnecessary pain meds that will only make me nauseous.
