If not for the niceness of the nurses this would be a 1-2 star review…read more I was a patient of Dr. Nsouli's a few years ago. I did allergy shots for close to a year and a half I think. I met with Dr. Nsouli maybe 2-3 times during that entire course. So just to prepare you, when you have your first appointment you'll meet with the doctor, you'll see every room in the office adorned with degrees and certificates and news articles etc. but your main point of contact will be a Nurse Practitioner. Did the allergy shots work? Yes...for 4 months. After that, and ever since, it's like they never happened. Every conversation with Dr. Nsouli or his nurse practitioner was about how the research shows allergy shots are effective for about 10 years, but that's only because the research didn't track them further. I do not recall being warned that their effectiveness could wane so quickly. What's especially brutal about such an outcome is that the allergy shot process is incredibly time consuming. You're coming in 1-2 times a week, waiting to get your shot, waiting for half an hour afterward, plus the time to get to and from. I almost cry when I think of how much time I lost for nothing. When I reported that the effectiveness had waned, their suggestions were to put me back on the same regimen of medicine I was on when I first came to Dr. Nsouli. And if that wasn't enough, I could consider trying a different form of immunotherapy, sublingual, but they didn't think insurance would cover it. In other words, it felt like them saying our method didn't work, but here's another one we can sell you out-of-pocket. I don't think I've ever been so disappointed in a medical professional. Your mileage may vary, of course, Many people have success with allergy shot therapy. But not everything will necessarily be as rosy as depicted. I admit I should have gone back in person (I did virtual for my subsequent appointment(s) bc pandemic) but I was just too deflated.

I think the receptionist is great, the waiting room is not as comfy as the old one but I don't find myself sitting there for longer than 5-10 mins. I don't stay the 30 mins, since I don't need to, but if the seating an issue I just hang out near by since GW Hospital is right around the corner. Billing well, they're not the only ones that bill late or past date of service, most billing these days is out sourced and not timely. Dr. Glancy has not retired that I'm aware unless she's done so in the last month. I've seen her and she's very personable. No waiting room clock is needed I have a cell phone, and a watch to keep my time. The waiting room magazine is fine but I also carry a iPad or always a cell phone to kill time.

My son had extensive food and environmental allergies, asthma and eczema. While my son's pediatrician treated his asthma the treatment was 9 times out of 10 not as efficient or as effective as Dr. Fishman. At age 9 this son was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The weekend pediatrician on duty at that time, supposedly an allergy specialist insisted that my son's symptoms would clear up after the first frost which would kill the ground coverings my son was allergic to. That not sitting well with I described the same symptoms given to the pediatrician. Dr. Fishman immediately told me that headaches with double vision, and vomiting were not common allergic reactions or symptoms. He urged me to get a referral for s CAT scan which determined there was " a mass" in my son's brain and pressing on his optic nerve. Six years ago my asthma returned. In 2016 I was symptomatic for 10 months. Dr. Fishman fought with my insurance company to finally get approval for a medication that has resulted in my being symptom free for 18 months. Dr. Fishman is smart and well versed on asthma and allergy pharmacology. He stays up to date on medical studies and research. If you are looking for a physician with an irrivesent personality then Dr Fishman is not your doctor. On the other hand if you want a physician qualified, experienced up to date on current treatment modalities and can answer every allergy/asthma related question, is ever so focused, attentive and dedicated to his profession then make Dr. Fishman your practitioner He can talk fast and his handwritten medication instructions are nearly unreadable but Dr. Fishman never tires of you asking him to repeat himself while you make your own notes, he is soft spoken, always polite and has a wealth of local physician specialist from cardiologist,to surgeons, to tropical disease specialists and more that he can recommend, if you dare to ask him. Without reservation I highly recommend Dr. Fishman. Lastly, when he tells you to contact him "next week" regarding your progress he really means for you to do that. I find that sending him a concise email rather than calling yields a fairly immediate AND same day response. If by chance I don't get a reply in 2 hrs or less, res ending my email definitely gets an immediate reply.

I went in for my first allergy office visit ever and was hoping to get some answers to constant sinus pressure and post-nasal drip. I saw Dr. VanLancker. Well, after talking for a bit, a nurse comes in with the skin prick test. I did not request this test or understand the costs related. We do the whole test and I don't react to anything except the histamine control. Great. No answers. Dr. VanLancker just shrugs after the test and writes me a prescription for Flonase - something that I can just walk into CVS and buy. Disappointing. This is not why I saw a professional. Not getting an answer was a minor bummer, but that wasn't the real issue here. A month or so later, I get a bill. Turns out that the skin prick test costs over $1000. (!!!) I had absolutely no idea that it would cost that much to poke me with a needle a few times. I never would have approved a test that costs that much. It really does feel true - similar to what some other people have said, that this office exists to bill dollars. Forget about the patient's needs or experience. I've never had such a terrible experience with a medical team. I disputed the charges for the test that I didn't request. I agreed to the charges for the office visit and general exam, which I knew and understood. Well, I got certified mail today denying my request for a waiver on the test only. Absolutely no concern for informing patients or the patient experience in general. I hope that this review will keep someone else from having a massive bill on their hands. Avoid this place. GW Associates needs to take a cue from other providers. Inform and get consent for procedures. It isn't that difficult to inform of costs, even if you don't know how much each person's provider will cover. I would have declined, given the opportunity. **Unlike some of the other reviewers, I did have an excellent experience with the team at the front desk. The woman, in particular, was very helpful and friendly to me.

**A Disturbing Lack of Expertise for a Practice Advertising MCAS Specialization**…read more I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for an allergist, especially if you suspect Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). This practice advertises expertise in MCAS, which is precisely why I went there. Unfortunately, my experience left me seriously questioning that claim. From the beginning, it seemed that nobody was actually listening to my concerns. I provided a detailed history of reactions to specific foods, alcohol, latex, fragrances, and numerous other triggers. Instead of investigating those reactions, I was subjected to standard skin-prick allergy testing, followed by bloodwork for common allergens, most of which had absolutely nothing to do with the reactions I had reported. What exactly was the point of asking about my symptoms if the testing was going to ignore them? To make matters worse, the skin-prick testing was excruciating and ultimately declared useless. I have dermatographia, a condition that causes my skin to develop raised welts from physical irritation. Did anyone ask whether I had it before repeatedly pricking my skin? No. After putting me through what can only be described as torture, the doctor announced that the results were all false positives and couldn't be interpreted because of my dermatographia. I informed him that I already knew I had the condition. He simply hadn't bothered to ask. My current allergist has since explained that skin-prick testing can sometimes be interpreted in patients with dermatographia when the results and controls are evaluated appropriately. I've also heard that this practice continues testing patients without first asking about dermatographia, which is deeply concerning. When my latex allergy testing came back negative, despite a lifetime of severe reactions, I asked how he explained those reactions. Rather than investigate, he treated me as though I were hysterical and insisted I couldn't be reacting because I wasn't allergic. Apparently, if his tests didn't identify the problem, the problem couldn't possibly exist. Then came the reason I had sought out this supposedly MCAS-knowledgeable practice in the first place. I specifically asked about MCAS, only to be told I didn't have it because my tryptase bloodwork was normal. Except normal baseline tryptase does NOT rule out MCAS. He never explained the importance of testing during an acute reaction or comparing those results with baseline levels. He simply dismissed the diagnosis. Meanwhile, he suggested my alcohol reactions were caused by an enzyme deficiency more commonly found in people of East Asian ancestry and warned me that it could eventually cause cancer. No testing was performed to establish that I actually had this deficiency. I eventually went to another allergist who actually investigated my symptoms and diagnosed me with MCAS. Since beginning treatment, my dermatographia, constant itching, dandruff, acid reflux, and reactions to my own sweat have disappeared. My intestinal reactions have substantially improved, as have my reactions to foods, fragrances, and alcohol. The improvement in my quality of life has been extraordinary. I understand that MCAS can be difficult to diagnose, but that is precisely why I sought out a practice that specifically advertises expertise in the condition. I arrived with a detailed history of symptoms and a strong suspicion of MCAS, only to receive painful and largely irrelevant testing, dismissive explanations, and a confident rejection of the diagnosis I ultimately received elsewhere. **If a practice is going to advertise itself as specializing in MCAS, patients should reasonably expect its physicians to understand how to evaluate it, recognize the limitations of diagnostic testing, and actually listen to the people seeking their help.** I paid for specialized medical care and instead received an expensive lesson in why a second opinion is sometimes absolutely necessary. I cannot recommend this doctor or this practice.

Here's a background story: the DMV Allergy and Asthma center used to be called Fishman Allergy…read more They added new, pseudo hip, influencer docs to freshen up the stank the old practice still has and even hired a musician?/marketing guru with a little too much money on their hands as CEO (Navya Nataraj) to pull the car out of the mud because, you know, "the fish starts to stink from the head down". Now, they are hellbent on aggressive rebranding and try the social media route. Their Instagram is hilarious when you have known the practice for years and see through their brainwash strategy. If you want to know the truth though go read the one star reviews on Google. Better yet look up Henry Fishman, MD here in yelp. The reviews are priceless, unretouched and show how his and his staffs abuse goes back decades (!!!) to reviews from as old as 2010. You will find horrendous malpractice from administering expired allergy serums to impeding patients from accessing health records to cover up malpractice to occasional review fixing which, I think, yelp is less prone to. So they can't manipulate this. They have tried multiple times to get rid of bad reviews (probably paying online firms that explicitly do that for businesses which by now is a common manipulative standard in the promotional/marketing field) which were later reposted by the affected individuals or otherwise resurfaced. Google is notorious to hide then release reviews by itself as well. My review and another patient's review which were public at the time we wrote them quietly vanished later and we updated them again in disbelief. So that's first hand experience. I find it funny that albeit they try their best to pivot to the point they kicked Fishman out as head of the practice, replacing the management (going all the way to hiring a new, fresh, creative artist-CEO face and all), he still manages to hoard bad reviews. When you first meet him he will seem like the sweetest man. The mask will start to slip as soon as he has you locked into allergy shots. You will start to get mishandled bills which will get you into trouble financially and with your insurance, you will start seeing less of him or maybe even never again after that initial meeting where he will press you to sign an allergy shot regimen. Multiple patients have reported all of the above and even more crazy things coming out of that den. If you are lucky to still get to see the bad reviews from before the rebrand - i.e. his social media savy propagandist's damage control has not wiped and silenced all public dissent - you will get an early insight/warning. It's morally corrupt to hide honest reports of medical misconduct. But those that fall in that trap will get to experience the real deal sooner or later anyway. Maybe this message will help in hindsight that you weren't the only one who got fooled.
