I had a terrible experience. He was condescending and bullying, denying my experiences and arguing with everything I said. He even questioned another doctor's diagnosis in a completely different specialty for a different medical problem. Find a different doctor. read more

This office had mixed reviews and I was hesitant to contact them as a new patient. However, my previous allergist, who I saw pre-pandemic and really liked, moved to their practice. So, I took a chance and called. The woman who answered the phone sounded disgruntled and was condescending when she informed me that the doctor in question retired last year. I started to tell her I was unaware and she cut me off, asking if I was a patient. I tried to explain the situation but she cute me off again in a strident tone and said "Ma'am, why exactly are you calling?" I politely told her that I had wanted to make an appointment but that dealing with her changed my mind and I would find another practice. If this is how a practice treats a potential new patient, I shudder to consider the quality of care I would receive. I pay for health care and I deserve to be treated well. This is clearly not the practice for me. read more

Practice in in transition with Dr. Fishman joining with DMV Allergy and Asthma Center and this is good news for patients. I am in the ramp up program and my waiting time has been minimal both for my initial and my repeat shots. Injection technicians are excellent with pleasant personalities. Dr. Fishman has been fine to deal with and is clearly very knowledgeable if sometimes distracted. Dr. Pasad Nataraj has also been good to deal with. The practice was only rated with 4 stars because they are still in transition with new staff and in early November a computer and appointment system which is in the 21st century should be in place. When the dust settles, and the new office systems are in place this practice should be 5 stars. read more

Don't come here - the management staff are exceptionally rude, condescending, and have a penchant for being unwilling or slow to complete necessary patient paperwork. I've had a nurse call my breathing "pathetic" while taking an inhaler test for asthma, and another nurse irritably staring at me without communicating instructions for administering a Dupixent shot. I used to see Dr. Canady while she was at the practice, who was fantastic, and I feel the same way about Dr. Fishman, but the consistent diminutive behavior of their staff push me to need to find another allergist office immediately. read more

I've been coming here for years now for my allergy shots. I want to praise the new management and owners of Dr Fishman's practice - DMV Allergy. The office has been revamped and my interactions (including shots) with staff is now very competent and prompt. Very happy about these changes. read more

Fish injected me with shots and when I became suspicious about what he is injecting he did not answer my questions. I found out by accident it is the wrong stuff and not what I agreed to. I still am not allowed to know and have no access to no documentation of what is being injected into me for weeks and weeks. read more

Their management staff and nurses are exceptionally rude and careless. I've heard them talking to adult patients and calling them "Babe" and whatsoever. That's absolutely disrespectful. Staff is sitting behind the frontdesk and is, at best, watching TV via smartphone. Another day, a nurse was publicly asleep at the frontdesk. That's an absolutely inappropriate behavior. The doctor Fishman himself is careless too. Stay away from this office. They will maltreat you in every sense. read more

Dr. Fishman is the most caring doctor I've ever met. I text him on a Saturday because my son had pneumonia for nearly 2 wks couple with asthma issues. I had already taken my son to Urgent Care twice and he wasn't getting any better. I live in Loudoun County so it's easier to go to urgent care as opposed to driving into DC. It was a Saturday and I didn't want to take my son back to Urgent Care or his pediatrician's office. I decided to text Dr. Fishman asking for advise. He literally called me immediately. I've never met a doctor who's so caring about his patients and eager to help. My sons are 13 and 10. One has asthma and the other has Celiac Disease with other food allergies, so I've been to many doctors and specializes. Most doctors care about how you will pay them first. I've never met a doctor that gave me their phone number and tells to me call if I have questions regarding my sons health AND he actually responds every single time!!! Dr. Fishman is truly an amazing and caring doctor. Thank you Dr. Fishman. My sons and I are so lucky to have found you! read more

I do not lightly fire a doctor whom I have seen for the last 17 years, but that is precisely what I did today. I noticed about a year ago that there was a lot of staff turnover in the practice. In the past half-year, that has resulted in excessive waits to receive allergy shots. Today, I signed in for shots. There were no patients ahead of me waiting for shots. Nonetheless, while I could hear the injection technician chatting away with her work friends, I was not taken back for my shots for 35 minutes. This is disrespectful of my time and of me as a patient. And it has been virtually the same experience for months now. I left the practice with my allergy serum this morning and will now find a new allergist (there are plenty of them!) who can provide better and more consistent customer service. FUN UPDATE: My new allergist pointed out to me that the serum I was injected with by Fishman was EXPIRED. Let that sink in. read more

I don't see Dr. Fishman himself, so I can't comment on the reviews about him personally. Also, I assume the practice has either hired new staff or trained them better, as I have not had any issues with them in my two visits. Today, the wait times between being called back to the exam room and waiting to see the doc were incredibly quick! I see Dr. Angela Canady, who has a great bedside manner, spends time with me, explains things clearly, and is honest. She also communicates by email, which is a big plus. My GP referred me to the practice to rule out allergies for ongoing nasal/sinus pain. Although I tested positive for grass, weed and pollen, I have not responded to sprays or antibiotics. In particular, I like how Dr. Canady gave me her honest opinion about not needing allergy shots (not that I wanted to get them anyway!). Sure, she could have easily made extra $$ by recommending shots for 9 months but instead decided to save me time and money for a treatment that she does not think will be effective. We both agreed my issues would be better treated by my ENT, so unfortunately I'm not sure if/when I'll be back. That said, I'd definitely go back to Dr. Canady if need be and recommend her to my friends. read more

Dr Fishman is incoherent and confusing. I was led to believe that my allergy immunotherapy would last a few months but have now been informed this was just the beginning. The process will last possibly for the next 2-5 years (depending on how my body reacts). I highly recommend seeing another doctor in this practice. read more

The customer service at this practice leaves much to be desired. I've had several in person and telephone touchpoints, and each time the office appears to be exceptionally disorganized. If you visit the practice, be prepared for an exceptionally disorganized experience. read more

First and foremost: Dr. Fishman seems to be a wonderful man and knowledgeable physician. Unfortunately, the office has just lost a patient due to the conduct of the office staff. I called about a billing question and was, no joke, threatened! I was told by the billing office "I don't feel that I should have to go to the extra step of calling your insurance provider, and if this is not resolved soon, I will send this to collection." Then, it turned out, she had billed the wrong insurance provider entirely. One I have never even heard of, let alone been covered by. No apology, no nothing. It's a shame for a doctor to lose a patient due to something like this, but I will certainly not go back. read more

I actually have only visited Dr. Fishman at his Chevy Chase location, but decided to post here because the address was incorrect for that location. Dr. Fishman is a godsend. I walked into his office covered in hives, for no known reason despite having dealt with them off and on since I was a small child. His front-line office staff was incredibly kind, professional and courteous. His nurses and technicians were proficient, patient and kind. His NP is a little flaky, but what she lacks in obvious medical qualifications she makes up in sweet sincerity, treating me (though I am an adult) like her stressed out and sick kid. It was just the attention I needed given that my own Mom is thousands of miles away, and I was dealing with my condition for months at that point. Dr. Fishman was on the freakin' ball, too! He rattled off a thousand questions, all of them relevant if not interesting, and told me that he didn't want to wait a second longer debating my condition and set off to treat it immediately. He put me on a suppressant regimen of anti-histamines that kicked the hives out of my system and has been consistently available on the phone at all times should I have questions or concerns. He's aggressive but he is a fantastic physician. Go see him for allergy, asthma or immunological problems you may be experiencing today! read more

Avoid this guy at all costs. His staff are all sweethearts, but he's there for one reason - drug reps. There was always a pharmaceutical sales person hanging out and giving him things - probably why his fix for everything is to prescribe the same 2-3 medications. The doctor looks disheveled and hung over - often running around looking flustered or confused. I got really worried when I first saw him, but relieved that he's not actually handling needles since he's shaky and unstable. He's also very short with you and will keep you waiting for a very long time. read more

Let it be known that I am only updating this review to demote the office and nursing staff to 2 stars, not Dr. Fishman himself. And even so, this only applies to a few of them, because one of them was WONDERFUL. To make a long story short, Dr. Fishman instructed me to return 7-10 days after my initial appointment to start my allergy shots. I made that appointment a safe 17 days away, and when I arrived that morning, they told me the serum was not ready. In addition, when I tried to sign in for shots, they told me I had to sign in for appointments - like official, see-the-doctor appointments, not just one for a shot. I had no idea this was going to be an appointment to see the doctor, so when I said I would just leave since my shots weren't ready, they said they would charge me $25 for a last-minute cancellation. Ah-palling. I said that I had no idea this was supposed to be an appointment, and that I hadn't even gotten an appointment reminder. The response: "Well, we don't always do those if we don't have time." Either you do them, or you don't. Pick one. Now this appointment happened to be on my birthday, so at this point, I proceeded to throw a hissy fit because this was NOT what I was told by the doctor and I purposely scheduled my first shot on my birthday so that I would always remember the day I started them. After enough huss and fuss, one of the receptionists went to get a nurse, and luckily, that nurse was IMMENSELY helpful. I had to wait to see the doctor again, but while I was waiting, my nurse insisted that they make the serum for my shot, and she administered all 3 of the first shots to me while I waited. I loved her! I also told her that Dr. Fishman said 7-10 days, and she said that it was more like 10-14. I mentioned this discrepancy to the doctor, who immediately apologized and said "I told them it needed to be ready today, so it should have been ready today." I think I made some enemies in his office that day, but if it means that they're scared enough to get their act together when they see me coming, I'm fine with it. Needless to say, there appears to be somewhat of a disconnect between Dr. Fishman, the nurses and the office staff. I don't mind mix-ups, but if 17 days wasn't enough, the office staff should not have let me schedule for shots for that day. Get it together, people. My very severe allergy/sinus problems are on the line. read more

I've been coming here for allergy shots since December 2013 and have never had a problem. I see Dr. Canady for office visits once a year or so and she is the most patient doctor I have ever seen in any specialty. She never makes me feel rushed and seems genuinely interested in fully understanding and answering my questions. The nurses and receptionists are all sweethearts. And I'm not just saying that because I have eaten many of their Twizzlers over the years. For what it's worth, I transferred here from an allergy doctor in Philadelphia and brought my own serum initially so I was already familiar with the overall process. No issues with the transfer or insurance. If you're on maintenance, keep an eye on your serum levels and expiration date so you can request to have new serum made before you run out. Parking in the area is non-existent unless you spring for a pricey garage so take public transit or bike if at all possible. There's no bike rack out front but you can find a rack behind the parking attendants booth and another one at the bottom of the ramp. read more

Dr. Fishman is a good doctor, but his office staff is among the least professional I have ever encountered. You could argue that they are not the ones providing the medical care, but they are the gatekeepers between you and the care you need. I have bruised knees from all the arbitrary hurdles that the office staff has thrown in my way this year. As I write this review, I cannot resume my allergy shots because his office staff believes that I have not seen the doctor for over a year. In reality, I last saw him two months. I have left repeated messages, after a voice mail left by the staff to this effect, to point out that I have, in fact, seen the doctor this year to no avail. No one will return my call. It's ridiculous and unnecessary. read more

Dr Fishman first treated my son at 6 months old. This same son is now 31 years old and still is followed by Dr. Fishman. My son had extensive food and environmental allergies, asthma and eczema. While my son's pediatrician treated his asthma the treatment was 9 times out of 10 not as efficient or as effective as Dr. Fishman. At age 9 this son was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The weekend pediatrician on duty at that time, supposedly an allergy specialist insisted that my son's symptoms would clear up after the first frost which would kill the ground coverings my son was allergic to. That not sitting well with I described the same symptoms given to the pediatrician. Dr. Fishman immediately told me that headaches with double vision, and vomiting were not common allergic reactions or symptoms. He urged me to get a referral for s CAT scan which determined there was " a mass" in my son's brain and pressing on his optic nerve. Six years ago my asthma returned. In 2016 I was symptomatic for 10 months. Dr. Fishman fought with my insurance company to finally get approval for a medication that has resulted in my being symptom free for 18 months. Dr. Fishman is smart and well versed on asthma and allergy pharmacology. He stays up to date on medical studies and research. If you are looking for a physician with an irrivesent personality then Dr Fishman is not your doctor. On the other hand if you want a physician qualified, experienced up to date on current treatment modalities and can answer every allergy/asthma related question, is ever so focused, attentive and dedicated to his profession then make Dr. Fishman your practitioner He can talk fast and his handwritten medication instructions are nearly unreadable but Dr. Fishman never tires of you asking him to repeat himself while you make your own notes, he is soft spoken, always polite and has a wealth of local physician specialist from cardiologist,to surgeons, to tropical disease specialists and more that he can recommend, if you dare to ask him. Without reservation I highly recommend Dr. Fishman. Lastly, when he tells you to contact him "next week" regarding your progress he really means for you to do that. I find that sending him a concise email rather than calling yields a fairly immediate AND same day response. If by chance I don't get a reply in 2 hrs or less, res ending my email definitely gets an immediate reply. read more

Like another reviewer, I also had idiopathic hives -- and angioedema -- and after going to a different doctor who was pretty much useless, I called Dr. Fishman's office in a panic after breaking out in hives so bad at work I was terrified I was going to have an angioedema attack at work. I don't know how they did it, but they fit me in THAT DAY, I saw the NP, and contrary to what others have said, I found her to be very calm and straightforward (not "spacey" at all). She was very thorough, spent a ton of time with me (even though I was basically dropped in her lap over lunch time), and prescribed a regimen that not only got rid of the hives that day, but has kept them and the angioedema away for good (it's been several months). The office staff was top-notch, very friendly and informative, and very sympathetic (obviously!). I plan to go back for immunotherapy shots soon. read more

This review is for the receptionists and nurses. They are so friendly and will remember you by name. I have been coming here for the past couple of years for allergy shots and the nurses who administer the shots are really great. I tend to bruise and swell a lot after my injections and they put this magical cream that takes away the itch, and they give me an ice pack. They truly care about their patients. I love that they have water bottles and a big bowl of candy to keep you busy while you wait too. Great staff! Gurly and Peaches are the BEST! read more

This office is disorganized and unprofessional. The morale seems to be low in the office which is spilling over into their service. I have been unable to reach the office by phone or email to set up follow up visits. I addressed my concerns with Dr. Fishman and he didn't seem to care and had a "if you don't like it, go somewhere else" attitude. I saw Dr. Okocha last fall and she was great - she was probably the only thing good going for the practice but she has sense left. If they staff is as disorganized as I (as well as others) have experienced, I'm curious how it trickles over into the quality of care received. I will not be going back ever again! read more

First, this is an extremely unprofessional office. They had me down for a completely different office when I first showed up and then told me that the doctor on staff that day was already "triple booked." They clearly have profit, and not patient care, as their priority. Second, no one told me to stop my antihistamines before my first visit. They decided to go ahead and do the allergy testing anyway, even though I had been taking antihistamines. I had no reaction to any of the allergens. So, Dr. Okocha told me to stop my antihistamines and return a week later to repeat the same test. They charged me for both tests, even though it was their fault I had to have two done. Third, I never got a diagnosis. My second round of allergy testing also showed that I was negative to all allergens. Instead of ordering further tests or trying to figure out what that problem was (I have chronic sneezing and rhinitis), Dr. Okocha determined that I am "probably allergic to cats and dust mites" and that I should "just have the allergy shots anyway", EVEN THOUGH I tested NEGATIVE for cat and dust mite allergens. I am now in the process of getting a second opinion from a real doctor. Do NOT go here. read more

I've had allergies all of my life, but I suffered for years with particularly terrible allergies after moving to the DC area. I finally broke down and saw Dr. Fishman and my life has vastly improved. I rarely have issues now, maybe a little bit in the spring and the fall. After going through the process to build up to the maximum shot dosage, I now only visit the office once/month for maintenance shots. As far as I'm concerned, the results can't be beat. I see the other negative reviews below and I'm confused. The staff has always been polite and attentive, my appointments with Dr. Fishman have always been on time, and I've never felt that he was pushing drugs on me. In fact, he said his specific goal was to remove the need for any drugs. At any rate, I recommend Dr. Fishman and the office. He does have a bit of a mad scientist demeanor, but he knows what he's doing. If you DO need drugs, see my review of the pharmacy in the same building. It's fantastic. read more

I went to Dr. Canady. She was professional and they did a thorough work-up with all the stick-tests, etc. However, a subsequent doctor I went to also asked me about some specifics about infectious agents (and not allergens) that I might have been exposed to. That turned out to be the case. So, decent experience. But another doctor actually found the problem. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Fishman's for over 20 years and he has literally helped me to breathe more easily thanks to his treatment of my allergies and asthma. His staff is also very pleasant and professional. I actually look forward to my allergy shots. Dr. Hosai, who recently joined his practice as an ENT, is terrific. She fixed my deviated septum, which was a life changer. Many thanks to Dr. Fishman, Dr. Hosai, Peaches, Keisha, and the rest of the team. read more

I had a severe allergy and was recommended to this practice by my GP. I had an initial appointment with Dr. Fishman but as my allergy got worse, the office kindly gave me an earlier appointment to see Dr. Canady. As I sat in the office filling out my paper work I thought the office staff were overly social (phony), talking loudly with each other and then joking with Dr. Fishman. Not a bad thing I thought, but not too professional for a Doctor's office. When the nurse called my name (she used my first name) and then I heard the receptionist laughing out loudly making fun of my last name and telling the nurse she was brave not to call out my last name. The nurse replied: "that's why I used the first name." I was lost in my thoughts and it took me some time to realize that they were making fun of me and my name. As the realization dawned on me that they were loudly and unashamedly making fun of my last name I told the nurse: "Yes my last name is long and very unusual." She did not say anything. I then continued on and said "many people have unusual names and that's no reason to laugh at my last name." That's when things went downhill. She yelled at me saying that they were not laughing at my name. I let it go, because I was not well and needed help. Dr. Canady was really professional and very sweet. She said that I needed to be tested for allergens and explained the process. To my bad luck the person doing the tests was this same nurse. I had never done such a test before so did not know what to expect and given that I have a phobia against needles I was very anxious. The nurse took my blood pressure. When I asked her for my reading she told me rudely "read it yourself!" I let it go again. Then she asked me to lay out my arms on the table in front of me. Not knowing what to expect, I placed my right arm on the table. She yelled again: "I said arms and that means both your arms." Now feeling scared and anxious, I told her nervously that this was my first time... She started pricking me very roughly and I just took it as I was at her mercy. After some time she said that she would need to do further testing. I asked her if it was the same process. Again she yelled at me: "Don't you see the needles? Don't you see that it's not the same?" I kept quiet. Again she pricked me on my arm several times -- so roughly that I had blood running down my arm. Then she closed the door to my room and let me wait and wait. I waited for nearly 30 minutes (the testing should be read after 15 minutes). When she ignored me, I got dressed and walked out. Dr, Canady saw me leaving and came back to the room. I mentioned to her, nearly in tears now, that I would never want to come to that office again. She was a bit confused but did not ask me anything. She went on to give me her medical opinion and I left. This was my worst experience. I was publicly humiliated, made uncomfortable, yelled at and man-handled. This is not what you expect when you go to a Doctor when you are sick. read more

The only good experience with this office was speaking with the billing representative a moment ago to begrudgingly REpay my bill. She was very sweet, even as she was robbing me of $40. Here is a breakdown of the series of negative experiences I've had with this office, and this is all for ONE visit, mind you: 1.) I had an appointment with Dr. Fishman on 9/6 of last year at 2:30pm. I checked in 15 minutes early, 2:15. I understand doctor appointments rarely start on time, but by the time 3:45 rolled around I decided I couldn't wait any longer since I had work at 4:30 and had to travel to the other side of downtown at the start of rush hour. I went to the receptionist and asked for a refund of the copay which I had paid and informed her that I would call to reschedule when I had time. Without issuing the refund, she immediately went to get Dr. Fishman (who was apparently in his office alone?) and he insisted that I stay and that he could see me at that very moment. I reiterated that I didn't have time to spare since I was already going to be pushing it getting to work on time, but he insisted he could have me out in less that 5 minutes so I obliged. He recommended I go get blood work done to determine allergies and he would call me with the results as soon as they were in. The very next day I went to get blood work done, where they assured me the results would be in within 5 business days. 2.) TWO MONTHS PASSED with no communication from Dr. Fishman's office. At this point I had received a letter in the mail from his office stating that I owed $40 for the copay WHICH I HAD ALREADY PAID. At this point I decide to call the office to request the results of my blood work as well as dispute the redundant copay charge. I receive my results but the billing representative was out to lunch, so I would not be able to speak with her, but I was assured she would return my call after returning from lunch. A WEEK LATER I decide to call back, the billing woman tells me that if I don't have a receipt the the copay being paid, she couldn't reverse the charge. (I had paid in cash and threw away the receipt, a bad habit I am trying to break.) I reminded her of the minor scene I had caused on the day of my appointment and asked her to confirm this incident with the receptionist and Dr. Fishman himself, as they would both clearly remember me requesting a refund and them not giving it. She says she will check with them and call me within the hour. It was 4pm, the office closed at 5, so obviously... no call back. 3.) I call back a week later, get a different billing rep, re-explain the situation, she tells me she has no idea what I'm talking about and that this entire situation is not their "policy." Irritated, and feeling defeated, I hung up, determined to revisit the situation on a later date when I felt more calm. 4.) Fast forward to last week when I get a letter from COLLECTIONS that I need to pay the $40. In an attempt to save my credit score, I called the office and paid the $40. I'm not trying to cause a large deal out of $40, but it's $40 that I ALREADY PAID for a service that was SUB PAR TO BE GENEROUS. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this office. read more

The staff was extraordinarily rude. They told me the appointment time that I booked online and had several confirmation emails and texts for was incorrect. They then left me in the waiting room with no explanation. While I was waiting quietly, the receptionist then told me that I was being rude and she didn't like my face. When I tried telling her that I didn't like them messing up my appointment, she interrupted me and informed me it was not her problem. She then spent the entire time I was there complaining about me under her breath. I said nothing to her. I would not return due to horrible staff. read more

This review is of the K St office and Henry Fishman. If place uptmost value on bedside manner and conversational niceties, you will not care for Dr. Fishman...at all. If it is most important that you have an incredibly knowledgeable allergist at your disposal and an office that provides definitive testing services, Fishman Allergy is for you. O have never had any significant problems with the staff-- but I have never had to speakwith the dreaded billing lady referred to in these reviews. About 70% of doctors' offices I have vistited have been run like crap; physicians are the worst businessmen on earth, so be it. Dr. Fishman pretty much saved my life-- and through it all he came off as a bit of a Dick. He will always be my allergist. I had received misdiagnoses fom five prior physicians, including another allergist in DC. A GW Hospital clinic had even told me I had 9 different food allergies, all potentially causing anaphylaxis if not avoided (if true, I would have held the world record for most food alllergies ever...BUT the entire test was junk...I have no food allergies. Dr. Fishman got me straightened out quickly, performing the correct tests and getting my asthma and allergies under control. I had spent one entire year following the diet dictated by that GW blood test. I had lost 35 pounds, could not travel easily or eat out with friends. All the while my breathing problems failed to improve at all. GW is the pits... If you are in a real fix and require solutions, foremost, Dr. Fishman is the guy-- and his ebrasive style is benificial. He will interrupt you as he wishes. A fewonths ago I had a pretty nasty reaction to an allergy shot requiring my serum to be adjusted. I complained and he called me a wimp. I snapped back at him as I saw fit and neither of us took offense at the banter. He has a great depth of knowledge but you too have to be a bit pushy. What I like most about the office is that they follow the American Assoc of Allergists' protocols for testing and treatment 100%. There are a lot of quacks out there that will tell you, and sell you, anything about allergies. Fishman is great. read more

I came to Dr. Fishman because I was suffering overwhelmingly painful migraines I thought were attributed to allergies, and also because I was developing skin issues due to an unknown food allergy. Ok - let's start from the beginning: I waited a good hour before anyone even paid attention to me, in a sub-zero-degree office, and the receptionist was very cold (side effect from the temperature?). I finally see the Doctor and he basically looks up my nose, asks me what's wrong - cuts me off during my explanation, tells me to go to a dermatologist for my skin, and recommends me to an outrageously priced massage therapist doctor for my migraines. He prescribes me about 10 different medications, including a asthma steroid that I am pretty sure I didn't need, and got snappy with me when I asked him what they were. Finally, before I left he told me he would contact me the very next day to schedule a cat scan for my headache issues. I never received that phone call. I can't imagine what this bill is going to look like and I spoke to the doctor for a total of 5 minutes. I have never been treated with such disregard from a doctor. Anyways, moral of the story: Don't go! read more

This place is a bunch of crooks. When I first started seeing Dr. Fishman I had allergies, but my reactions were generally minor with minimal amounts of itchy eyes runny nose etc. However, when I began seeing the doctor he recommended that I go on allergy shots. OK, sounds fine and dandy, right? Nope. After sticking to his very expensive very inconvenient allergy regiment for over a year (that required me to drive all the way from College Park to Chevy Chase each week to get one, of course they wean down as you go) I was not seeing any improvement whatsoever in my allergies. Instead when I began to notice was that my allergies grew much, much worse. I became more allergic to my existing allergies and begin to develop new ones. I immediately chose to stop seeing Dr. Fishman. Another thing I should mention is that when I began to see Dr. Fishman, I asked if I could get a prescription for allergy medication. He was adamant that the shots were a better solution. I trusted him, and I feel that the trust was deeply misplaced. My best friend also saw the same doctor, and had the same issues with the allergy shots. One of the issues I immediately had with the shots was that I noticed that my best friend and I had the same schedule, yet she had significantly more and stronger allergies than I did. My aunt was on the same schedule too. It sort of seems to me that Fishman has figured out a really good way to make a lot of money off his clients, quickly. I would not recommend this doctor. To be fair, the experience was bad from the start. I found this doctor to be condescending, and honestly quite demeaning. He obviously doesn't think highly of tattoos and piercings, and initially advised me that my septum ring was part of my breathing problem (I've since asked 3 other doctors, all of whom agree this is not the case). He suggested I consider surgery, in my first consultation, because of a bone spur in my nose. None of this was encouraging. But he came highly recommended, and his office is in Chevy Chase, so he must be the best, right? All I'm saying is think twice, or maybe three or four times, before visiting this allergy and asthma practice. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Fishman for five or six years, and he's helped my allergies a lot. He's very knowledgeable, as are his employees. I do feel he has a tendency to over-treat and over-prescribe. So long as you go in aware of that, I'd recommend him. read more

I caution to use the word "fraud" as I've heard a handful of people praise Dr. Fishman for diagnosing/treating allergy-related conditions. I can only attest to my own experience. First, it's important to note Fishman takes a "kitchen sink" approach to treating patients. This wasn't my words rather another physician who I felt was being kind in their critique. He throws everything at a problem. What this approach does is basically sap you/your insurance, and the results haven't been all that impressive. Altogether in treatment dating back almost a year, I was prescribed 6 weeks of antibiotics; various nasal sprays -- including fluticasone propionate; met with the doctor three times and the NA once; given two nasal/skull scans (like a CAT scan but just circles your head); administered a full 30+ vile prick test to see what I react to; prescribed mupirocin ointment (for nose bleeding), 10 MG tablets of prednisone, and Allegra D 24-hour tablets; and encouraged to enter the calendar of treatment (26 weeks of shots, one in each upper arm), to which I agreed to regrettibly as each visit came with a co-pay. My first bad encounter came when I was billed for the 26 weeks of treatment viles upfront. When asked why the number 26 was required (I was told fewer initially) the receptionist told me it was an inexact estimate, and then asked to connect with the NA for more information. When asked told I didn't feel comfortable paying for something upfront, without results, they explained the syrum needed to be set well-beforehand. They were happy to put me on a payment plan, to which I pay $40/month for each of the past 6+ months (while still carrying a balance today). Yes, the receptionists are nice (Stella and Jenny), as is one Hispanic nurse administering shots. The NA is nice, but spacey, and another nurse is aggressive when administering shots -- I would pray it be her day off when I visited. In addition, I was told shots could be taken between a week to 10 days apart, but this later was not the case as I came in after vacation (on day #10) only to be told they would need to re-administer the previous week because I missed treatment. So, the "last straw" was this bit of misinformation that resulted in, yes, another co-pay. The height of confusion for me during the treatment came when the doctor ran a nasal scan (an involved and expensive process) to find gray matter "near the center of my skull" he identified as puss, mucus, infected area etc. To treat this he prescribed 6+ weeks of antibiotics. For other illnesses, previous use of antibiotics never exceeded more than 10 days, but I took the doctor's advice and two months later returned for a follow-up, only to find Dr. Fishman stumped that little progress took place. In addition to assuring me it wasn't a tumor he said a specialist would need to insert a device and scrape away the contents. Now questioning his credentials, I declined his sending me to the nasal/brain scraper. This should've tipped me off that he really couldn't diagnose things and only come at problems with a "try everything and see what happens" approach. After the instance of being misinformed on the duration of shots from a week to 10 days, I basically walked away with two rounds to go. Some thought I was crazy to come so far and quit; I just think it's crazy it took me this long to escape this guy and see through his operation: a high treatment/questionable reward/extremely expensive proposition. Don't fall for the "proficient, patient and kind" ways of his staff, or that he'll offer you coffee upon first arrival. Bedside manner is neat, but I want to feel better on the inside, and not be broke for it. If given the choice I never would have started with him. Seek the suggestions/referrals of your physician, and others. read more

I'm not sure if Dr. Fishman was having a bad day or what, but I was pretty disappointed by my experience at his offices. I felt like he stopped listening to me after my initial, brief description of my symptoms - he made a diagnosis and as far as he was concerned, that was that. He was curt throughout the process and then became visibly annoyed when I asked questions to help me understand the diagnosis he made. To become annoyed at a patient for trying to get clarity around a medical issue with which she is not familiar seems really inappropriate. If you are looking for a doc who will answer your questions patiently and really listen to what you're saying, Dr. Fishman is not your guy. I won't be going back. read more

I wish I had read these reviews before going to Dr. Fishman's office. First of all, Dr. Fishman is a perfectly nice man and I have nothing terrible to say about his medical care. However, this is the worst run office I have ever entered. It started when I came in as a new patient and they didn't tell me to stop taking my antihistamines before administering allergy tests. After they realized their error, I had to come back a week later and receive more invasive tests (read: painful) just so they could bill something different to my insurance. They also had the gall to try to charge me for that co-pay even though it was entirely their fault I had to go back. The billing woman also lied to me and said it's against regulations to waive a co-pay (it is not, according to other offices and Cigna). I talked to Dr. Fishman about this and he said I wouldn't have to pay, yet I continued to receive bills for two more months. I finally called back to settle this and got screamed at by the billing woman again and hung up on four times by the medical assistants at the front desk, when I wasn't even being rude. You should save yourself considerable pain and find a different allergist. read more

I like Dr. Fishman - he usually spends a good amount of time with me, seems thorough and knowledgeable, and is a nice guy who listens to feedback. If I had any complaints it would be that there are a couple (maybe 2 at the most) on his staff who were very abrasive. Most of them are great and very accommodating and nice, but if you get one of the two who are a little blunt it might impact the overall quality of your visit. The other issue I have is the "kitchen sink" approach to treatment. I understand that Dr. Fishman just wants his patients to feel better as quickly as possible and prescribes to that end, but for people who are unfortunately sensitive to allergy medicines it can be a little off putting. To his credit, when I told him I wasn't comfortable taking that many meds and wanted to pursue dietary/lifestyle changes, he seemed pretty supportive and worked to help me alleviate my symptoms that way. Overall a good doc and good practice, just make sure you're up front about your expectations and be vocal in regards to your treatment. read more

I wish I had read the reviews here first - I wouldn't have gone and advise people to avoid this office. While everyone is nice, nothing gets done. I was made to come back three times (they even wanted me to return for a fourth time), misinformed by people at every level (from receptionists to the name on the door) and wasn't even helped with my eczema. While I am glad to know that it is not caused by any allergic reaction, I had to constantly be the one to ask questions, ask for tests, suggest solutions. Thank goodness I'm an active patient, or I would have gotten less than nothing out of this. They were at least 20 min late in seeing me each time, and my last appointment lasted nearly two and a half hours (in the middle of a work day! with no warning that it would be more than 30-45 min!). I am completely dissatisfied with this entire experience. read more

Dr. Okocha hasn't worked at this clinic for a while. I saw Dr. Canady once, and she was fine, but I won't be returning. The new nurses here are not taking care of my prescription refills. They are also very rude on the phone. Today marks the 4th time I have called about one prescription. Today the receptionist kept trying to transfer me to the nurses, but I said I'd like to leave a message in Dr. Canady's voicemail. She informed me, with attitude, that she'll have to email her. When I tried to ask her a question, she hung up on me. Now I will not get my prescription before I run out. I will be shocked if anyone in this office is professional enough to call me back. read more
