I occasionally drop by Vibo Music School since I'm a former student…read more First things first, if you've ever been Vibo any time before 2018, you should know they moved to the location they are currently at and it's absolutely gorgeous. Although the first location on Paris was a second home for me, visiting their Ocean location still managed to give me comfortable, welcoming vibes and that's mainly because the staff and teachers are still as kind and excited about music education as they were back when I was a student! No matter when I drop in, I can trust that there is going to be a credible, talented teacher giving feedback to their student's family. From all the times I've visited, I've never seen a student walk out of their lesson unhappy. Students, most of the time, give their teacher a cheery goodbye and it feels like the school has only improved from when I was also a Vibo Music student. My sibling used to take lessons at Vibo but recently stopped to pursue other hobbies. During their time at Vibo, they improved so, so, so much and even used the skills they acquired to self-learn songs they were interested in. While I would wait for them during their lessons, I would also hear other students practicing during their lessons, and because I was there once a week, I heard other students improve as well. It's just an amazing feeling knowing that Vibo is always encouraging musical growth and exploration. If you have younger children who show interest in learning about music, Vibo Music's teachers truly excel in working with not only young children, but people of all ages, backgrounds, and interests. You can mark my words that when it's my time to have kids, I'll be enrolling them at Vibo Music School so they can form as many amazing memories as I did.

My son has been studying piano here with various instructors for a little over three years now. I'm…read morevery happy with his progress. In fact, I'm writing this review while he is practicing "Scarborough Fair." He's come a long way since playing early pieces without chords. :) The owner hires excellent instructors. That's one of the advantages of going to a studio instead of trying to find someone on your own. He's had the same main teacher for his whole time here, but every substitute teacher that he's had has been very good with kids. That's another advantage of a studio: weekly lessons whether or not your main instructor can make it. If you want to make progress at an instrument, you need to make a weekly commitment. The system of instruction seems to be well-thought out. I like the main set of piano books that they use, and they also add other types of pieces--jazz, some pop tunes--so that he is learning more than just the classical style. The teachers have also been willing to work with my son's interests. When he expressed an interest in playing Master of Puppets (not my idea ...) and Pinball Wizard, they found suitable music for his level so that he could give the pieces a shot. Everything is really well organized. The shift to online instruction with COVID was handled very well. It's been easy to get online with the music teachers. We also get emails after the lesson detailing what he needs to cover in the following week. I think the class makeup policy is completely fair. It is simply unreasonable to allow students to reschedule classes. For one, there is no space for it in a teacher's schedule, and it is unfair to ask teachers to reserve a couple hours a week for makeup slots that might be filled or might not be filled, effectively denying them compensation for those hours in their week. A teacher should not be robbed of income just because a family can't make a regularly scheduled time slot. And the makeup lessons they do offer are fine--they kept my son on track with his musical development, which is what I really want to see. By the way, this is not just a studio for kids who love to practice and do so without being asked. My son is not always enthusiastic about practicing, but the teachers have done a great job of keeping him motivated and working with him on those days when he hasn't done enough or is feeling a little unmotivated. Also, the studio does a great job of using a rewards system to motivate kids to keep practicing regularly. Getting music lessons can be a tremendous benefit for your child's mind and spirit. If you are thinking about music lessons for your child, but hesitant about the investment, take a look at the research that shows how music benefits cognition, memory, and mood. For a few hundred dollars a month you can potentially help your child get more out of school, as well as open up new worlds of possibility for career and social life. Amabile is a great place to make that happen. Our family is very, very happy with how we have seen our son progress.

We had some disagreements with the school about scheduling and they hung in with us and we worked it out. It's nice that there's a person (in our case, Cheri) at the other end of every email who is quick to respond to our concerns, flexible and has partnered well with us on solving problems.

I really love music and was shy about learning drums so late in life (I'll be 40 this year) because…read morethe image of a potential drum teacher in my head was some cocky dude that was more into flexing his own musician ego in front of students than really teaching me. What a relief to find Dawn! Although she has TONS of reason to walk around with a chip on her shoulder (she was a 4 Non-Blonde, she tours with the likes of Tracy Chapman, she has mega awards), she is one of the kindest, down-to-Earth, cool-ass people I know in life and she even carries one of my favorite personality traits - a dash of nerdiness. Kids & Adults alike: If you want to learn to play drums (the right way) or better your playing, you couldn't be in better hands. I'm much older, but from attending student recitals, I've seen how amazingly patient and caring Dawn is with kids. I kinda want to have kids just so I can take them to Dawn and make them young rock stars! I've seen her rock hard alongside an adolescent boy yearning to bang out some Nirvana then gracefully switch over to helping a sensitive 7-year-old girl perfect the rhythms of a Taylor Swift song. Personally, I gravitate toward a mashup of classic rock and funk/hip hop. Dawn knows 'em all and can accommodate your tastes and interests. She's a master of percussion - having studied percussion formally since childhood. To get access to a master like her as a beginner almost seems wrong, but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. How long till you're drumming: I thought learning the drum kit would be really daunting and take a long long time. Dawn had me up and drumming in just a few weeks. Ever since then, I've just been getting better and better and having a ton of fun. I'm a drummer all of a sudden! It's so much fun. What a lesson is like: My lesson with Dawn is my favorite part of my week. She's awesome to talk to. She'll coach you through all the proper sticking techniques. She has you play along to your favorite songs in her studio. She gives you homework to work on the things she sees you need help with. It's so much fun to play real drums at real volume in her studio. Oh and she's actually published her own drum books and they're great. I've ordered a bunch of other drum books and always find myself coming back to hers. She's really thought them through. Anyway, at lessons, she sets you up on the "guest" drum set and watches your technique. At some point she gets on her drum set in the same room and you both drum. She coaches you from her set and you both play along. Did I mention this is so much fun? My only criticism is that I often just want her to break out in an awesome drum solo while I just watch a master perform. But alas she's too dang modest and brings us back to a focus on me. . . so I just have to go watch her perform when she's gigging.

Highly recommended! My almost 9 year old has been under Dawn's instruction for about two years now…read moreand I can't be more satisfied with how his drumming has progressed. I was wary of finding a new instructor since he was with his original instructor for almost 4 years before we decided to make the switch due to her moving to a new location which was too out of the way for us. The transition between instructors was almost seamless. Dawn keeps it exciting for my son by allowing him to incorporate his own new musical findings into their lessons. I am very happy with how she's been able to insert formal music lessons while still allowing him to be creative and rock out after the more serious stuff.
