I have never felt apprehensive about visiting a dentist until this particular experience. I required two crowns for my teeth, and despite informing the dentist that my insurance would cover the costs, he claimed it did not. He quoted a fee of $400 per tooth. I paid him $400 for one crown, leaving a balance of $400 for the other. After taking the mold, he instructed me to bring another $400 for the next appointment to have the crown placed. Subsequently, I contacted my insurance provider, who advised me not to pay the additional $400, as they confirmed coverage for the procedure. I attended my appointment, during which he fitted the crowns and asked if they looked good. While I was still in the chair, he requested the $400 payment. I informed him that I did not have it available. He then removed the crowns, stating that he would reinsert them once I paid the outstanding amount. Following this, my insurance company reached out to him, and he later called me to say that my insurance would cover the crowns up to the $400 I had already paid, and he would now charge me $200 per tooth. However, my insurance company clarified that they covered the entire procedure. I expressed my confusion, questioning why they would only cover up to the amount I had paid him. I speculated that if I had given him $600, he would have claimed coverage only up to that amount, and the same would apply for $800. At that juncture, I faced a dilemma: I could either continue to negotiate with him, knowing he had my crowns, or abandon my pursuit of the $400 he owed me in exchange for the crowns that were already paid for. This situation felt unjust. He failed to return calls from my insurance company, who had left messages with his receptionist, and he did not respond after I informed him they wished to speak with him. I plan to share this experience immediately after he places my two crowns, as I am aware that posting it beforehand might jeopardize my chances of receiving the crowns owed to me. I cannot understand why he did not view me as a long-term client, considering I had discussed potential future procedures with him.
