We were…read morelooking to move into an apartment before starting graduate studies, and we walked into Farnam Realty on a whim. (Bo, the greeter pup, was too cute to resist.) Carol and her team took very good care of us. As first-time renters, we needed all the help we could get! Carol listened attentively to what we wanted, and she showed us exactly that. She was honest about our budget and about the properties we viewed. All of her help was professional and encouraging. While we waited to arrange our lease, Farnam Realty Group helped us find a place to stay for the evening. Carol worked quickly and efficiently to move us into the right home. She even helped us negotiate a monthly rent that allowed us to remain on budget. Our lease was finalized within 24 hours of our first steps into the office. My partner and I are so grateful for Farnam Realty!

Greed, incompetence, and apparent hatred for their tenants. My partner rented from Farnam for seven years, but I couldn't tolerate more than one. After fixing up our poorly maintained apartment and receiving confirmation for a lease renewal, we were suddenly forced to relocate at tremendous personal expense. Farnam didn't even communicate this information to us; my partner had to leave work and drive to their office, as always, to find out they had lied to us yet again. (There are more horror stories that I won't even get into here.) All this strife so that landlord Carol could continue raising rents for the next sorry tenant. The brokers are friendly while coaxing you into a lease; after that point, they genuinely don't care whether you live or die. They will lie to you for no other reason than their own laziness and convenience, and that's only if you manage to get anyone to talk to you in the first place. I'm disgusted with Joey Felton and Zak Kampton, but I'm still not sure whether they're malicious or just incompetent. Carol Lopez-Horsford is evil. I heard her shouting and degrading the maintenance staff multiple times while I was a tenant, and she appears to be hated by all who have ever known her (including brokers who escaped to other companies). The maintenance workers were the only positive part of my experience, but even they couldn't manage to keep mice out of our apartment. Yes, New Haven has a pest problem, but it doesn't help when the house is literally full of holes. Of the four apartments I've rented in this city, Farnam's was the worst maintained and worst managed by far. We are thankful every day to no longer be in business with Farnam. It's harder to find a decent private landlord, but so worth the effort! P.S. It's common knowledge that they buy fake positive reviews. You can literally tell which ones those are on this Yelp page. Lies as always.

She didn't…read moresimply guide us through the process (which, I'll add, she did so wonderfully), but she really cared about finding the exact right fit for us. She never pushed us to make a decision too quickly, tried to convince us that we needed something more expensive than our range, or tried to brush away our concerns in favor of trying to close a deal. In fact, Melanie's knowledge and attention to detail caught red flags in properties that we never would have known to look for, saving us wasted time or even major headaches had we moved forward with those properties! Melanie is extremely detail-oriented and frequently was reaching out with properties she thought were a good fit (and they genuinely were properties that met our specific requirements -- not some general email blast). She is also extremely responsive and very fast at setting up showings, which is so crucial in such a fast-paced market. When we finally found "the one", Melanie worked tirelessly to make sure we closed quickly and on time. She even helped us negotiate with the seller after the inspection to put some money back in our pockets. She really didn't have to do that, as she knew the deal was going to go through regardless. But she genuinely went above and beyond what she had to do, and for that we are so grateful. In fact, we raved about Melanie so much that the owner of the condo we were renting hired her to sell the condo after we moved out (it closed in less than two months!!)

Selling a home is extremely stressful. In my case, I was living in a different state and cleaning out the home on weekends and vacations. I highly recommend Jack Hill to anyone looking to buy or sell.

I recently spoke with Nancy Nishball in regards to an apartment listed on Craigslist. Please note…read morebefore reading the rest of this review, this apartment was listed as "quiet dog or cat friendly", and mentioned nothing about any limitations or breed discrimination. I left a message for her and spoke with her over the phone the next day. I let her know we have a dog. The first thing she said was "is it a pitbull?". I said no, he's a lab mix. She said "does he look like a pitbull?". I said, I guess... he looks more like a chocolate lab though, but he's a mix so it's a bit ambiguous. I also mentioned his vet also has him listed as a lab mix. She scoffed at me and said, "We're probably not going to take it then, but I guess I'll ask the landlord and call you back". She then proceeded to laugh at me and say "I don't understand why people even get those things anyways", then ended the conversation. I'd like to note I haven't received a call back. First of all, she is the realtor. Based on the conversation, it seemed like a personal opinion because she needed to consult the landlord. This is not Nancy's property. Second of all, she is perpetuating a myth and encouraging breed discrimination. "Dangerous pitbulls" are the result of improper training and bad owners. The breed itself is a remarkable, strong, affectionate, and loyal group of dogs. Unfortunately, Nancy is like many uneducated, oblivious people in this country and blindly obeys and listens to whatever the media tells her is the truth. Please read this article in regards to the history, temperament, and misunderstanding of the pitbull breed: http://www.aspca.org/Pet-care/virtual-pet-behaviorist/dog-articles/the-truth-about-pit-bulls . Last time I checked, the ASPCA has a better grip on animal behavior than the news, who will sensationalize anything for better ratings. Nancy was rude and unprofessional to me because I rescued a stray dog that may look like a breed she didn't like, without even seeing him. My boyfriend's flawless credit and our great jobs, along with perfect renting history and referrals, wasn't even touched upon. I wonder how her client feels about that.

For YEARS, their tenant has been destroying portions of our property, and despite being made fully aware of the situation, Mandy Management has failed to take any meaningful action to stop the damage, only to ignore us throughout ALL THESE YEARS even law enforcement. Instead of addressing the destructive behavior, they have turned a blind eye, excused the tenant's conduct, and allowed the situation to escalate. The tenant informed the police Mandy Management advised them to cut down all our trees. The situation has become even more distressing because their tenant frequently yells and screams at us in the mornings -- right in front of me and my disabled children. This is harassment, plain and simple, breach of peace as the police stated. It has created a hostile and unsafe environment for my family, which no one should have to endure in their own home. Mandy Management has done the opposite: they ignore legitimate concerns, enable their tenant's destructive actions, and allow them to lash out at their surrounding neighbors. Their negligence and hostility have caused unnecessary stress, financial loss, and damage that could have easily been prevented with even the most basic level of professionalism and accountability. If you are a property owner or renter considering hiring this management company, beware: they do not act in good faith, they do not protect property, and they certainly do not treat others with respect. Their conduct is a liability, not an asset. My children should not have to suffer daily in their own home.

By chance we ended up visiting a new build being shown by Greg and Brom Builders. Greg listened to our 'small house, small budget' dilemma. During that first interaction he without question assured us, that even though our budget was limited we could achieve a dream house. In a couple of days he took my 3 Post-It notes of the house I wanted to build, and voila! He created external and internal views on paper and by way of digital video, a complete walk-through. I was hooked. 10 months later we moved in ... we had so much fun, Greg & Brom were so much fun to work with and everyday was like Christmas, we would walk the 20 yards to our new construction (we rented another cottage right across the street and just gasped at the progress each day, admittedly I always took the evening tour with a glass of red wine so was always happy!). Now the reason I tell this story ... Greg is not just a realtor, he lives and breathes housing and construction, his enthusiasm and passion are inspirational. He knows building code inside out and can instantly tell you right from wrong. We have kept in touch with Greg throughout the years and shared a few chases on property over the period. Our latest was just a few months back where we secured our second home ... Greg freely admitted that this was his quickest purchase ever People ask me, "How can you be friends with a realtor?" ... quite easily ... He is out not to 'bone you', he enjoys the service he provides and you can tell. I may be too old to buy another house, but hey who knows if I do I will be giving him a call!

Within minutes a young lady from Garden Realty was calling looking to find out additional details on our wants and needs. A few minutes later that day, I received an email from Greg Hanner with additional information on the property, the area and an introductory video of himself, his realty company and services. Later that evening, Greg called me to introduce himself already informed on the details from my conversation with his assistant. He shared his background and extensive experience on the southeastern part of CT (2022 and now for 2023 the #1 Agent of the Year for CT New London County). I told him that we were early in our search and that we weren't even sure if we were ready to buy any properties. However, if we found the right place at the right price, we would consider it. Greg was very professional and pleasant, and even with this low-level interest, he was willing to assist us in our search. Over the next few days, he shared a series of property options, his own personal experiences with other buyers, and scheduled a viewing on the original property we had inquired on. Over the next few weeks, Greg facilitated several showings, and was present at each one, very engaged, clearly informed and knowledgeable. It was also very apparent that Greg had plenty of experience in the area, as each property we saw hit many of the must-haves we were looking for. He pointed out where a compromise would be necessary along with pros and cons, at times highlighting features we would not have considered. Finally, it seemed as if Greg knew everyone as we connected with the realtors on the seller's side and others. We requested a showing at another unit in the Mystic building we liked. The unit had a renter and getting in for a viewing required some negotiating. Greg made the necessary arrangements and we there we found our dream unit! Greg helped us come up with the best and fairest offer which after some waiting (and back and forth with Greg) was accepted. Greg presented us with a bank for financing with whom he had plenty of experience and who were best suited for the area. Greg scheduled the property inspection with a local home inspection team he had worked with in the past. Greg was there throughout, asking questions, ensuring that we understood where there were areas of opportunity. From the inspection, there were a number of areas where we would need addressed at some point, so Greg negotiated a credit to the purchase price as to not disrupt the tenant to address some cosmetic issues. Overall, our experience with Greg was very positive. His knowledge of the local market, his experience as seasoned realtor, his pleasant demeanor, with and realistic expectations were exactly what we needed. A short few months later, we are happy owners of a beautiful condo unit in downtown Mystic a few minutes away from restaurants, shops and everything Mystic has to offer. Thanks Greg!!
