    Macaroni Salad (Cold)

The food doesn't taste fresh, I ordered thru DoorDash so I cannot speak for ambiance or view of inside restaurant according to the reviews here. It doesn't seem like it's up to par with the cleanliness department. I hope they got that situated. Restaurant has potential the only thing I did enjoy was the fried chicken it was crispy & fried well not too much seasoning either but it was fair. Mac was super bland & so were the collard greens & candy yams. The yams tasted stale & old like it came frm the can. I also ordered macaroni salad @ it has the weirdest color. I've never seen Mac salad orange? Nonetheless I didn't even bother to try. It was left untouched / unopened. Cornbread was delicious tho! I don't think I'd order frm here again

The B-52's - "Rib Shack" cue up the music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SOryJvTAGs "If you see a faded sign at the side of the road that says Fifteen miles to the Rib Shack! Rib Shack, yeah, yeah I'm headin' down the Van Wyck Expressway Lookin' for the meat hideaway Headed for the rib takeaway I got me a meal, it's as big as a whale And don't you dare bail I got me some pork, it feeds about twenty So pony up and bring your lunchbox money The Rib Shack is a little ol' place Where we can eat together Rib Shack, baby Rib Shack, Baby!" OK maybe we can't get together for dinner here, but we can certainly get take out. This is really deep in the south. The south of Queens, that is South Jamaica. Any further south and you can board a plane at JFK for the island of Jamaica. You're at the Rib Shack, so you gotta go for some ribs, but is it gonna be pork or beef? I go for the Pork Rib Dinner, ordering at the meat counter. Swing around the corner to get my two sides of Mac & Cheese and Red Beans & Rice, then over to the end register to pay and the cashier packs up my cornbread neatly to go. The ribs are fall off the bone and taste good with the sweet BBQ sauce. There are 5 honkin' big ribs here, so I split it into 2 meals. I might have to go for the Beef Short Ribs next time. I also wanted to try the fried chicken and got 2 pieces of dark meat that were pretty decent. The leg and thigh were seasoned well but were on the small side. I've seen half wing drummettes bigger than that drumstick. It did come with a square of their signature corn bread, which I also enjoyed.

Yooooooo, Working out here in da streets & when you want some home cooking food that sticks to ya ribs !! This place can fulfill your needs; very old school & very clean; all steam table set up & displayed with a huge spread of food; full slabs of my favorite full size pork ribs alway tender & delicious... I love em dry ... if ya don't tellem ya gonna get sauced !! Fried, Baked all kinds of chicken as well as fish !! Gonna try their salmon today looked fantastic last week but I was craving the ribs ... Their Mac & cheese looks awesome as well as their cobblers ... just take a looky lou !! Love their cabbage & collar greens a real deal southern home cooking spot !! The servers are alway polite and clean looking as well as their restaurant ! Take out only, parking could be a Lil rough at times ... Always coming back when I'm in da hood !!! My 5 star rating is not based on all the food because I basically eat the same food all the time this is a diamond in the rough & if you know this area you would definitely understand & appreciate this food establishment & their employees .... Thanks, GREG D

It's hard for me to compare this to anywhere else. I never really had legit soul food. May have stumbled across some that I assumed was but wasn't This may sound dramatic but Gawd Danggg it was good ! I haven't felt this way about someone else's food in awhile! I ordered their collard greens, spinach rice, and ox tail. I seriously felt like the chef who cooks there really puts in his efforts to his dishes. Every bite I had made me felt I was welcomed to someone's home. It's the type of comfort food anyone can enjoy. I wish them nothing but greatness in their business!

Pork Ribs Dinner. It looks like hot sauce all over it. Didn't look appetizing and didn't taste like home cooking ribs.

Oh no. Talk about so disappointing. I did but enjoy at all. I was hoping this place was a real down south home cooking place. The color in the food was so off. The Mac and cheese needed cheese. Needless to say, I won't be ordering from them again.

Never again! We drove an hour in traffic to try out KPOT in Howard Beach for lunch one afternoon…read more We figured it was only $23 for a buffet lunch, it'd be worth it to try at that time of day, especially since I'm a vegetarian and wouldn't be benefitting from all of the meats and fish they put out for dinner. Well, when we walked in, we were told that it was going to be dinner prices that afternoon during the lunch period. Why? Because it was July 3rd. The manager said he was just alerted by Corporate that morning. Dinner price is $35, so our combined $46 lunch was now going to cost us $70 for the same food. Annoyed, we agreed - what choice did we have after an hour in traffic, finally making the time to get there as we had been wanting to try KPot for a while. So we begrudgingly sat down and reconciled that it would be costing more for the same thing -- the food and experience had better be good at least. Once seated, we were told that we were not allowed to get more food from the buffet to take home. Understood. I ordered a hot pot of tomato broth and went up to get my vegetables and noodles to bring back to the table. When the broth arrived, only about half of the noodles and veggies would fit in the bowl, which I hadn't expected, but I figured, okay fine, I'll eat and add more veggies to the broth as I go. Well, I tasted the broth -- it tasted like cheap, runny tomato sauce. Now I was stuck with a bowl of soup I didn't like very much. I slogged through it, waiting for my veggies to cook through. The noodles combined with the sauce really tasted like a below average spaghetti and tomato sauce meal that I could have paid much less for at an an actually good Italian restaurant. I ate each unhappy bite, frustrated that I was paying $35 for this. Meanwhile, the noodles were absorbing the broth at a rate faster than I could get the food down, so soon I was left with a pile of noodles and vegetables at the bottom of my bowl. Since this was NOT extra food that I had gone up to get in excess, but WAS ALREADY IN MY BOWL, I asked if I could take it home. Even though I didn't like it, I felt it was mine -- maybe I could add some seasoning at home or my own broth and bring it back to life. I was told I would be charged $12 to take home the food that was already cooked, in my bowl, that I couldn't get through fast enough before it all got absorbed because it tasted so poorly. The manager was no help. He claimed if he did it for me he'd have to do it for everyone. I felt my situation was different -- I did not go up to take food for the purpose of gouging myself or them out of money, but rather, that I could not finish the singular bowl of soup that I ordered because I didn't like it, and the food that I took was intended for the one bowl of soup that I had intended to eat -- and btw, paid DINNER PRICES for. After a prolonged discussion, the manager said he'd make a phone call and see what he could do. But he came back and said he couldn't do anything. Really, dude? You understood the situation -- we were surprised with dinner prices even though the holiday that provoked it wasn't until the FOLLOWING day and there was nothing on the website or doors that advertised holiday prices on the day before a holiday. Then, the situation about the buffet food was explained poorly -- I understood we couldn't take excess food and expect to take it home, so I only took enough for my one overpriced bowl of soup, which then both tasted bad AND got absorbed by my noodles. The food I asked to take home was already in the bowl, cooked and soggy -- NOT on an extra plate waiting to be cooked. It was the principle of the whole thing. Unsavory, overpriced food, discompassionate service, greedy corporate rules. Also, if you're going to charge people more for dinner because you're adding more meats & fish, you're doing a disservice to vegetarians coming to your restaurant. You didn't add a single extra vegetable that wasn't already on the lunch menu, yet you charge them $12 more. Do better, KPot! Or don't, I don't care. We won't be coming back.

I felt safe walking inside of The Smokehouse today, no unofficial doorman. The second thing, this used to be a few seats for dine-in, but I can understand why it's strictly in and out. They are very busy, I would say, too busy to deal with cleaning the dining area. That is a good thing for business. I didn't see what I wanted and the young lady, ( I appreciate her so much) was kind and sweet. She informed me of the type fish they serve. I got Whiting, Mac n Cheese, and Greens. The Food* The greens were very tasty, properly seasoned and proportioned well. The Mac n Cheese is always compared to moms. Though the Mac n Cheese didn't hold together like I'm used to eating it. I did find it quite D'licious. What ever they are doing? They, are doing! I had the fried whiting, it had a bit of spicy kick. Very tasty, moist, not over fried or dry. The cornbread was silky smooth and held together on its own. I've never had cornbread that was like butter yet held together and didn't break apart, even when you bite it. I got three pieces, of course for an extra cost and it was so worth the purchase. To sum it up, this is the exact kind of meal, taste included, mind you, that I'm used to eating down south. The smoke house has duplicated a fine Southern dish. Just thinking, if they decided to offer a full sit down experience, like severs, a hosts or hostess to greet diners, table service, what a wonderful world this would be. Pro-Tip: Make sure you get the peppers and onions on top of the whiting. You can thank me later. Inspire more, Yelp more!

Our server was rude and seemed irritated that we asked questions about the menu before ordering. As customers, we should be able to ask about the food without feeling like we're inconveniencing the staff. The server's attitude made us feel unwelcome. Unfortunately, the food was just as disappointing. Much of it tasted processed rather than homemade. The candied yams, green beans, and collard greens all appeared to come straight from a can. The macaroni and cheese was dry, hard around the edges, and tasted old, as if it had been sitting out for quite some time. Based on this experience, I don't feel the food quality or customer service justified the price.
