When visiting Providence, we decided to take a day trip to Martha's Vineyard. We drove down to Quonset Point and bought ferry tickets on a Wednesday. Glad we decided on this day because parking lot fees jumped to double the next day and then increased for the weekend. We were able to easily purchase two round trip same day ferry tickets in the little trailer. The cashiers were friendly and there is a restroom inside. A looooong line formed to board the ferry, but we were able to go right to the top for an amazing two-hour ride over to MV. The sun was shining, the wind was breezy, and it was a joyful excursion over. Note to self: reapply sunscreen throughout the trip! They serve snacks and cocktails on board....Rum Punch, anyone? The staff is friendly and helpful. On the ride back we had a very enjoyable discussion with a new employee, a recently retired man who charters his own boat. We also met another couple and got lots of restaurant recommendations for the remainder of our stay in RI. Very organized, safe, and fun time!

The ticket office is a tiny little Trailer next to the ocean. The speed boat was fast, a little bumpy ride from the waves, but got the job done. The bar had a specialist alcohol drink menu. But no real food on the ferry or wifi in 2021 for an almost 2-hour boat ride. The

My husband and I took the 90 minute lighthouse tour today and really enjoyed the tour. We do not usually do this kind of thing as we do not like to be locked into a tour for a lengthy time. Especially my husband. He hates tours. But because I love lighthouses he agreed to go. Since it was on the water and in the sun he was happy. Harold the older gentleman who narrates was a charming man. Very knowledgeable about the area. We saw 10 lighthouses as promised. But 2 of them were a bit hard to see and get photos of. I think they should say 8 for sure with maybe a bonus if 2!!! Make sure you use the restroom in the boat while touring Newport harbor or you'll miss the last lighthouse and they close the restroom before returning to port. The restroom at the port check in (which is a trailer) is out of order. All in all it was worth taking and we did not have any issues. Oh yeah, the boat we took was brand new Julia Leigh built in 2019.

The trip takes 1 hour 45 minutes. While this may seem too long, it's an extra hour to sit, read, watch TV, sleep, eat or drink rather than battle traffic! Please note that no cars are transported - only people, luggage, and bicycles. It's more expensive, and there are far fewer choices for travel time, and the ride might be a challenge in poor weather for those who are prone to seasickness, but the rest is all upside. Clean vessels, ample dockside parking and a choice of seating inside or topside (covered or in the weather). Luggage is checked and tagged for you upon boarding, and lined up for you to grab upon arrival. Fresh bagels (toasted or not), yogurt, snacks, coffee, tea, soda and beer are available after you get underway. TVs are mounted in the below deck seating area. Seating is comfortable, and restrooms are clean. You pay in advance for parking - CASH ONLY. You then check in a "trailer", and cue up for boarding. This would be five stars except for two items - (1) gravel parking lot and getting your luggage from car to dock. This will be an olympic event next year (2) no public restroom at check in, so if you drive four hours and did not stop, you'll be praying for boarding to start. We were really happy with the whole process (except the gravel) and would definitely use them again.

Perfect day trip--great way to explore Newport and Jamestown…read more While winging it around Newport this past weekend, our thoughtful server at the White Horse Tavern recommended we check out the Jamestown Newport Ferry--and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. We arrived casually at the dock around 10 AM and hopped on without much planning. Our first stop was Fort Adams, where we enjoyed some surprisingly interesting historical sights. The timing was perfect--about an hour and ten minutes later, the next ferry arrived and took us to Rose Island Lighthouse. That visit was a standout. The guide was excellent, and we were fascinated to learn you can actually stay overnight at the lighthouse--definitely something we're planning to do in the future. (Fair warning: if you're not a fan of birds or geese, you might want to skip this stop.) Next, we cruised over to Jamestown, where the ferry crew recommended the Narraganset tavern and dinner at JB's on the Water. Enjoyed both. We were back in Newport by around 7 PM, totally relaxed, and without ever feeling rushed. Fine people, friendly staff, no stress--just a great way to experience the bay. I highly recommend the Jamestown Newport Ferry if you're visiting the area.

I am currently in a musical in Jamestown, and always try to take the boat over when I can- it gets me in the right zen headspace to do my best at rehearsal, and what better way to soak up the last few warm days before we head into fall and winter? The ferry offers different ticket packages (I usually just go for the discounted "Evening Special" ticket, but there's a daylong "Hop On Hop Off" pass where you can travel from Jamestown to Fort Adams, to Downtown Newport, and even the Rose Island Lighthouse at leisure. If I had more free time, that would be a great way to see the area for sure. Prices are reasonable (20-40 USD per guest, depending on the ticket type), and it's a wonderful way to see the City by the Sea on the sea! The boats are rustic but comfortable, with padded benches and enough seating for 20-25 guests per vessel. The crew is friendly, and alcoholic and soft beverages are available for purchase on board. Definitely add this fun ferry crossing to your itinerary next time you are in Newport!

You could bring snacks on the ferry if you liked. The bathrooms were clean and easy to access. Parking was free and abundant. The tour of Narragansett Bay was enjoyed by all! I was glad I encouraged the family to participate while we were on a family vacation in Narragansett.

The trolley was clean and the driver was very helpful and attentive, particularly with regard to my dress and the rain. He had champagne and water bottles ready for us and took song requests fired at him one after the next. Day of execution was 5 stars. That said, we docked stars here because of the booking and confirmation process. The company wasn't very responsive, even when I called to say I wanted to pay them, and it took over a week for us to get a confirmation of their services in advance of the wedding. I only heard back from Betsy after multiple voicemails and emails from both me and my husband the week before the wedding. Overall I recommend the trolley experience, everyone loved it, but I'd just be regimented with follow up in advance of the day

Ted showcases the little town in existance, but paints the scenes of the past with delightful stories. A lifetime of community involvement has made Ted's knowledge of Narragansett the wealthiest in existance. From the Pt. Judith Lighthouse to the URI Bay Campus and South Ferry Church, the trolley explores the fascinating history of the town with soulful narratives." This doesn't even begin to describe the tour I took in August. Owner Charles "Ted" Wright delivers a colorful, interesting and in-depth view into the history of Narragansett beginning with the towers all through the different owners of the mansions including the magnificent hotels of the late 1800's to the early 1900's, the bunkers at the Bay Campus (Fort Kearny,) and the World War II prisoners of war and their newspaper, Druid's Dream, St. Peter's church and it's historic past, all the way down to Pt. Judith Light house and back! Any person that is interested in history and has read up on Narragansett's history will be more than pleased with Ted Wright's stories from his past about Buckytown and the time they fired the guns at Fort Greene. This ride is about 2 hours. I originally didn't want to go on this tour thinking that $15 was way too pricey for any kind of tour. I was glad to have spent the money to hear Mr. Wright's stories and entertaining facts about the many events, places and people who existed here in this small seaside community. Even though I knew some facts that most people don't know about Narragansett like there used to be a train that came to Narragansett Pier and there were huge hotels along Ocean Road that were well known and visited I was not disappointed in founding out new and unusual things that happened and people that lived here. The few people that took this tour with my friend and I were treated to a ride on Ted Wright's first trolley: the Onnie and Angie Trolley, named after the two people who convinced Ted to buy it. The ocean breeze flowed through the windows as we drove first to St. Peter's and toured the church, through Narragansett Pier down to the Point Judith Light house via Scarborough beach back to the Towers. Before we drove to the Bay Campus we were asked if anyone wanted to disembark before continuing on. We drove past South Ferry Road Church into the Bay Campus then back by Narrow River up Bridgetown Road into Narragansett Pier and the neighborhood behind the beach area. Even though I was afraid that it would be too hot to do such a tour, the trolley allowed the cooling ocean air to flow through open windows. Ted narrated the tour and it was loud enough for everyone to hear. If you missed anything he didn't mind passengers asking questions and invited people to ask about anything they heard. "In the months of July and August, the trolley leaves from The Towers every Wednesday to roam , returning at Noon. Cost of Tour: $15 After the tour, join Wednesday Luncheons the The Towers by Tom's Market Catering. Cost of Luncheon: $14.50 per person" (You are not obliged to go to the luncheon.) The tour begins at 10:00 am. I recommend arriving early. We were able to get a parking space on Ocean Road close to the Narragansett Chamber of Commerce. You meet the Trolley Tour on the opposite side under the Towers. A woman takes your money or personal check and gives you a ticket. You board the trolley and she takes a head count and then takes your ticket. If you enjoy history but have a difficult time walking this is an excellent tour. If you have a Wednesday morning to spend and want to discover facts about Narragansett and the seaside community that was here more than 100 years ago this is an excellent way to do it. My only regret is that Mr. Wright hasn't recorded his tour on CD or written a book.
