It probably had one of the best views of the city, facing the Dom and the Hohenzollernbrücke. The music is very typically 'summer bar loungy', which suits the occasion. Prices are not cheap, but you don't have to pay an entrance fee, so that kind of compensates. If you want to enjoy some shade, you can sit at the tables with parasols. I am not the sort to sing praises of many places, but Rheinterrassen is a 5-star wedding venue in Köln! Positives The people we were in contact with were wonderful!!! We were treated so well. We were not upsold. They told us what they offered, listened to our requests, provided honest feedback based on their experience, and informed us of the minimum charge based number of guests. We had a contact person (Frau Balz) who answered all our calls including questions up until wedding day. All questions, no matter how minor, were addressed with urgency and in a timely fashion. Food was wonderful. I feared the food on wedding day wouldn't be as good or plentiful as when we had our tasting but that was not an issue. In fact, during the tasting, there was a dish I thought was a bit salty so I made a comment to the chef. I was pleased to taste that issues was addressed on wedding day. The view across the Rhine River into Köln (highlighted by the Dom) is as good as it gets in the city Negatives I speak English but the preferred language is German. Yay for me; too bad for my German wife who did most of the coordinating. Washrooms are downstairs (away from reception area) and they are public toilets for use by the entire restaurant. Honestly, not a big deal but just an FYI. Of all the people we dealt with, there was only one person who was somewhat cranky. She was a bartender who started later on the evening of the wedding. We kept the party going until past 4am so I can understand her not being so chatty...

The only thing that the States has over on them is that when I attend a tradeshow back home we offer transportation from the host hotels. Here seems every man or in my case woman for themselves. In my case I Ubered from my hotel. Only draw back is when you try to leave at the end of the day. So either leave before closing by taxi or by train. I did both as I was here several days. The show itself Anuga each hall had different themes. Building 4 was probably my favorite ie Sweet Street everything is better when it comes from Pennsylvania, and Aviko can you say French fries from Holland. Building 7&8 were to be Beverages but were more of a hodge podge mixed in with equipment. Also many chef competitions were being held unfortunately unlike the NRA Show held in Chicago,IL each May I never heard of any of their chefs. Guess the USA knows how to feature Celebrity Chef's better. Ie Foodnetwork,Reality Shows and book signings. There is many places to eat and drink that were packed. Had a great hotdog the first day how could we not, we are in Germany land of my father's forefathers. But cappuccino yikes leave this to the Italians can you say Illy. As for me next years show will be held in Paris can we say pastries qui!

There was always a shuttle when I needed one to take me to the press center. There were plenty of signs, info desks, even individual maps with vendors' booths at each hall. There were no meals provided free for press, but that was okay. Free meals usually entail stale bagels and cold cuts. The food in the press center was excellent, and when I needed to relax they had a cold Kolsch for me. If you find yourself attending a tradeshow at the Koelnmesse, you will be well taken care of.
