Stockholm isn't known for cheap hotels, but Rex hotel was an awesome value. The wife and I just recently stayed for 5 nights for $690, or $138/night, which included breakfast...great deal for Stockholm!
ROOM: Typical small European sized, with a small bathroom to match. But this is completely the norm for Europe, and the room was warm, clean, with comfy beds. The bathroom had heated floor tiles, which I found amazing! Shower had nice high pressure; I suppose they don't have droughts like we do in California. Our room faced the inner courtyard, so it was away from the street noise and therefore nice and quiet.
STAFF: The Swedes are naturally friendlier than other Europeans. Nice staff were helpful in keeping the complimentary coffee and tea available in the lobby. They'll call you cab
BREAKFAST: A surprisingly nice variety for price! Eggs come scrambled, hard boiled, or soft boiled. Proteins: cold cuts of meat, hot crispy bacon, pate and pickled herring. Also resh fruits, veggies, cereals, warm breads, nice cheeses and more...even after 5 mornings I never tired of all this.
LOCATION: Awesome! On the same block is the Rådmansgatan T Bana station, which will get you almost everywhere in Stockholm. There are plenty of eateries, cafes, and bars nearby. But walk a few blocks north to the very local Vasastan region, where real local Swedes shop, work, walk, drink and eat...great restaurants! Its about a $12-16 taxi ride to the central train station(in case you travel with a lot of luggage like I do!).
CONCLUSION: I would definitely stay here again! Note to the British tourists: no in-room tea kettle...I know a lot of you will have a mental meltdown over this. read more
