It is a Carolina style sweet & sour, but it wasn't quite sweet & sour enough. I applied some NC vinegar based bbq sauce, which improved it a lot. Now there are sections called 'Scargrill Classics' , which has grilled chicken, pulled port ad steak, and 'Pit strike Flats', which are flatbreads with salad and grilled fillings. Off the new menu I've tried the Nostell's Chorizo burger, which was very tasty and came with 'potato sleepers', which are chunky chips to me and you! That particular burger and chips was £7.50, but they range in price from £6.50 to £8.50. Will definitely be going back at some point.

When I was a student, we had a choice between a chicken kebab from Lucky's or a pizza from Gangsters, (where the chicken tasted like tuna). Nowadays students in Headingley are spoilt for choice for awesome food, the best of which comes from Red's True Barbecue. After being disappointed at the prospect of an Oak BBQ burger or tandoori regret from Tariq's, I lumped off to Red's for a healthy portion of sticky fingers and meat sweats! I feasted on succulent baby back ribs with a pair of chicken wings that terrified me at the thought of how big chickens can actually get, both choices were excellent. I also ordered some burnt ends, some of which were disappointingly tepid in temperature but tasty nevertheless, and a brownie milkshake that was decidedly average. It tasted ok, sure, but at £5 it needs to blow my mind like an Oreo shake from Byron, and sadly it didn't come even close to stacking up. The service was very friendly and attentive, and the food was good. I look forward to visiting the one that opens in London very soon.

However the prices were high…read morecompared to other Korean restaurants I'd been to, like starters such as kimchi omelette being priced at £12, the same as a main. The portions were also small in relation to the cost, especially the kimchi which was just a spoonful which was surprising for a casual restaurant as opposed to a high end or formal one. No banchan with the bibimbap was also disappointing, as it's usually served with it or at least available on the side menu. I prefer a liquid egg yolk on bibimbap, but this restaurant gives it fried which isn't as tasty, but with extra bibimbap sauce it was ok. They don't give much but you can ask for more. The staff were very polite and friendly, efficient and the tables had a button to press to call the waiter. It's up a stairs but they do have tables downstairs for wheelchair access, and card is also accepted. The online booking process was very easy to do and very handy. Much better than having to phone in. Overall, decent Korean food and friendly staff, but small portions and costly prices for a restaurant with a casual atmosphere so not exactly filling or easy on the wallet. They are the only Korean place in York as far as I'm aware, so it's worth a try if you're into Korean food.

Good Korean food in York, hip... hip... hooray!…read more I love Korean food, and the fact that it varies so heavily from place to place... if it's a good Korean restaurant then there's actually a good chance you'll find something there you like better than another, with the opposite also being true. By default I love the various Kim Bap offering here, think Korean sushi with beef or random other fillings, offerings here... I'm sure there's plenty of places that serve it in the UK, but my usual Korean haunts in London don't actually serve it which I've always found odd. The oddest thing for me here is that I don't love their Bulgogi... normally that would send me running for the hills, it's just such a staple of Korean food (at least in the mainstream), but it wasn't bad and the overall consistency and quality always wins out in the end. Besides, as outlined in my opening, it's often different between the various restaurants so who am I to say which place has it right? (Not that there's really such a thing as long as it's not bad.) Another oddity (again, not bad... just different) is that in most Korean places I've been to the selection of side vegetables you get (which aren't free with a meal here by the way) are served room temperature... here they are actually warm, but it's a bit different overall... the little sweat beans, whatever the pearls of delicious may be called, are uber tasty though so I can't complain. :-) The actual kimchi is also a bit different, but again... not bad. (At least they avoid the trap of serving really cold side vegetables here... chilled is one thing, but I've been to a few Korean restaurants where they feel like they're practically straight out of the freezer.) The Spicy Quid is a must for me here... oh that sauce, that glorious sauce! I honestly take whatever is left of my meal at the end and soak up every last bit of sauce... I've also had the Spicy Octopus, which actually didn't have the same type of sauce... similar, and good in it's own right, but stick with the Spicy Squid and you can't go wrong my friends. For contrast there's also a Crispy Sweet Chicken dish of some variety (so sorry, just not remembering names today!) that was good... not my thing personally, as in almost anywhere, but I can very much see why people like this (as did those in there with us). Conversely I wasn't a fan of the Teriyaki Chicken though, it wasn't actually bad, but it didn't pack as much punch as I would have hoped. All of the above said it may seem like I'm not actually too keen on this place, but it's actually on my hit list for each time I'm in York for a few days which hopefully speaks for itself. The place itself is very cute, with food presentation to match, but it's quite small as there's only a handful of tables... if you're heart is set on here try and book in advance to avoid disappointment. The owner is actually a really friendly guy as well, as is everyone else that works there. I'm so glad to see this place doing well in York, the location move and being open for dinner is a newer venture, so give them a chance, tell a friend, and hopefully the lot of you will be hooked too! We were never with empty glasses and the staff were excellent and very engaging even a bit of banter. There was 8 of us altogether and everyone was very well looked after. But the star of the show was the 90 day aged Dexter steak. Absolutely awesome. One of the best I've ever had ( if not the best) and right up there with wagyu and fillet mignonette and the rest. It was cooked to perfection. I'd never heard of this cut before but I shall certainly be returning again even if it's not on the menu as they are always trying to source different breeds and cuts. A cool little restaurant with great staff, lovely cocktails and delicious food. A real little hidden gem. We will be back soon.

She didn't show us to our table, she merely said, "around that corner there is your table". Poor service at best. At this point the restaurant was not busy at all. She had a face like sin and didn't appear to be in the best mood. Not a very good embassador for the place. BUT.. aside from this early poor interaction... Onto the other staff, waiters and waitresses etc, very impressed, well dressed, very polite, tentative, good vibe overall and we were looked after. The food, actually really nice, steak was massive and cooked to perfection. Large portions, exactly what we expected from a steakhouse. Veg was cooked well however the cauliflower cheese should be advertised as "cauliflower with cheese on top" as the cheese sauce was merely drizzled over the top of boiled cauliflower. But I would say we were (4 of us) all very happy with our food. Front of house lady didn't spoil our night (I suspect it was she who took my reservation phone call too) though it would have been a lot nicer if she met the same standards as the rest of her crew and food.
