On the day the new roof was installed we arrived home from work after dark to a dumpster filled with old roofing material and on the top of the pile was quite a few empty beer cans and beer boxes, I knew this was a bad sign so I took photos of this. 3 months later the entire roof leaked because they forgot to put the water and ice barrier down. They also did not install the ridge vent (we questioned this via email and the owners response was he couldn't because of the pitch of the roof which is rediculous, you can put a ridge vent on any roof!) Due to the lack of ventilation it caused black mold in the entire attic. They came to fix it by installing the water/ice barrier material that they forgot to put on in march of 2019 but still did not install a ridge vent which is needed to vent air into the attic. I repeatedly voiced my concerns to the owner about the mold and he emailed me that it wasn't mold, just algae and it would dry up. Its now 14 months later (and we now have become very educated on roof ventilation) after several emails back and fourth to the owner and a final phone call to him which he became extremely belligerent, told me it's not his fault and told me to F off and hung up on me. We now have hired a very expensive mold abatement company and also had to pay a new professional roofing contractor to install a ridge vent which was in my contract with JS&R Roofing. Such a nightmare!!!

Gene, the owner, was consistently friendly and available to answer all our questions, even though he was also dealing with a family crisis. He and his crew worked very hard, stayed on schedule, and cleaned up thoroughly. Gene showed us where water was coming in and encouraged us to take care of it quickly to prevent more mold in the future and offered to send his photos documenting the problem to our insurance adjuster, which was much appreciated. The attic is cleaner than it has been in decades! They also took care of mold in our upstairs bathroom, which looks great! My only small complaint is that the fogging agent used in the attic and bathroom to prevent future mold growth made most of the house smell very strongly of chlorine overnight while we were there. I have asthma and it was a concern. Maybe taping around and blocking off the gaps under doors leading to fogged areas could keep air quality better right after remediation going forward?
